I am a direct response outbound lead generation expert. And by that jumble of words, I mean that I leverage cold email to build predictable revenue pipelines for my clients. 

I leverage over 20 databases to merge Firmographic, Technographic, and Persona data to build highly targeted playbooks with my clients. 

I believe we need to arm sales teams with the knowledge of their total Target Addressable Market and teach them how to score that Market for which companies have the most pain and need their solution. 

The best way to do this is to look at public indicators such as open jobs data, employee growth/attrition, social media growth, web traffic, new product launches, employee sentiment, individual employee tech investment, company tech stacks, etc.

With this data, not only are you only messaging with people that you know have a problem that you can solve, you also are armed  with powerful messaging that cuts through the noise.

Why I'm excited (not scared) about Clay's new pricing update from today. And keep in mind, I'm their largest user.

I've had the privilege of meeting with Karan Parekh and Zona (Xiaotian) Zhang about this change once a month for the last 6 months and a lot of thought has gone into it. 

First, why the need for change?

There are many reasons but the biggest I was pushing for is that Clay's pricing on data is not competitive with the rest of the market if you want to use Clay credits. 

Finding emails could be up to .10 or more in a world where a competitive price is 1 cent and if you really know what you're doing, it can quite literally get 10-100x cheaper.

Clay had no way to be able to bring those savings to their customers. 

With today's pricing update, enriching data on the platform is more in line with where the cost of data is going.

Second, charging by actions is how Clay actually gives value to their customers and the action credits for each plan are set that 90% of users in each tier would never even think about their action credits. 

With the change, I wanted to see the data first hand that most customers would actually save money. 

Call me a shill. Believe me, don't believe me. I've seen the user data that most customers will not get close to their usage limit and because their data cost is going down 50-90%, they will probably save money.

Clay self admits in their announcement that they even forecast their own revenue to go down from this. 

Third, you can stay on your plan with no changes to pricing. This was also important in our discussions that the current customers can choose to not be affected. 

Varun Anand has told me directly that there are no current plans to change the legacy plans so current customers can just stay there. 

He has said it's on the clay team to build more features to convince legacy customers to move. 

Everyone here knows my love for the company so take my word with a grain of salt but after seeing all the data first hand, I think this will be a net benefit for most customers that aren't ramming API keys all day and put Clay in a better position to be more competitive in the long term.
