15 Hard Truths Scaling Consulting

I’ve been floating about on here for 10+ years. 
And I just crossed 13K followers, so it feels like a good moment to (re)introduce myself.

I’m Mike, a 44-year-old consultant helping other consultants build simpler, more scalable businesses, born in Poland - where winters are long, people are direct, and resilience is kind of built into the culture.

This is my story so far

2006: Built a career in corporate as a lawyer, fraud investigator, and consultant inside large organizations 
2016: Left Poland and moved to Canada with imperfect English and a lot to prove 
2017: Burned out hard and walked away from corporate life without a clear plan 
2017–2020: Built and scaled multiple agencies across different countries and learned that “bigger” doesn’t always mean “better” 
2021: Shifted into solo consulting and started helping experts productize their work and scale without building teams 
Today: Running programs, workshops, and advisory helping consultants simplify their offers, redesign delivery, and scale with fewer, better clients

And that's only half of it.

PS - What’s one belief about scaling consulting that you think is complete nonsense?

“Can I even get to $100K/month? It sounds insane. I’m not even at $10K months yet.”
 
That’s what a consultant said on one of my recent calls.
 
That’s the real psychology of scaling.
 
When you’re not consistently hitting $10K/month, $100K/month doesn’t feel motivating. It feels fictional. 

You don’t believe it or feel it in your bones. And that’s a massive problem, because it keeps you stuck in a scarcity mindset.
 
So instead of inspiring action, it creates doubt.
 
“I’m not that guy.”  “That’s not my level.”  “Maybe that works for others.”
 
Scaling doesn’t start with a big number over night, but it starts with narrowing the gap.
 
If you’re at $6–8K months, the next milestone isn’t $100K.
 
It’s:  – $12K consistently  – Then $15K  – Then $20K
 
The goal isn’t explosive growth, but stability.
 
Every time you hit a goal, you slow down to stabilize. 

You improve your delivery, making sure you can keep scaling in a predictable, efficient, productized way so your delivery doesn’t break as more clients come in. 

Scaling without disruption or overwhelm.
 
Because once you can:
 
• Hit consistent $15–20K months  • Do it without scrambling  • Do it without overworking  • Do it without chasing random clients
 
Scaling stops feeling insane and it almost becomes mechanical, a repeatable process.
 
Build a model that reliably produces the next level.
 
Then scale it.
