I’ve been floating about on here for 10+ years. 
And I just crossed 13K followers, so it feels like a good moment to (re)introduce myself.

I’m Mike, a 44-year-old consultant helping other consultants build simpler, more scalable businesses, born in Poland - where winters are long, people are direct, and resilience is kind of built into the culture.

This is my story so far

2006: Built a career in corporate as a lawyer, fraud investigator, and consultant inside large organizations 
2016: Left Poland and moved to Canada with imperfect English and a lot to prove 
2017: Burned out hard and walked away from corporate life without a clear plan 
2017–2020: Built and scaled multiple agencies across different countries and learned that “bigger” doesn’t always mean “better” 
2021: Shifted into solo consulting and started helping experts productize their work and scale without building teams 
Today: Running programs, workshops, and advisory helping consultants simplify their offers, redesign delivery, and scale with fewer, better clients

And that's only half of it.

Local AI does not require cloud APIs or monthly invoices.

If your application can run a database locally, it can also run a language model locally.

✅ With Ollama, you can execute modern language models on your machine and access them directly from C#.

No external providers, API keys, or per request billing.

This is not about avoiding the cloud.
It is about control.

Here is why it matters 👇

1. Predictable costs

Cloud AI services usually charge per request or token.
Running models locally means you download the model once and use it freely.

2. Faster responses

Ollama exposes a local HTTP endpoint, typically on port 11434.

Your application communicates over localhost, which removes external network latency.

3. Data stays inside your infrastructure

For internal tools or regulated environments, sending data to external AI APIs can be a concern.

Local models keep everything inside your boundary.

Why this is interesting for .NET developers

Most AI examples online focus on Python.

But with Microsoft.Extensions.AI and OllamaSharp, integrating local models into:

• ASP.NET Core APIs
• Background services
• Console applications
• Internal dashboards

becomes straightforward.

You interact with familiar abstractions like:

• IChatClient
• ChatMessage
• ChatRole
• GetResponseAsync

The client simply communicates with the local Ollama endpoint.

Common models you can run locally:

• llama3
• deepseek
• gemma
• qwen

⚠️ Hardware matters.

A 7B model may require around 8 GB RAM. Larger models require more memory or GPU resources.


P.S. Local AI is not about replacing the cloud, but about expanding the architectural choices engineers can make.
