I work in Business Development for LinkedIn. What does that mean? Well, I spend my days doing one of three things:

1.) Working with our legal team to execute and negotiate deals with companies in LinkedIn's ecosystem
2.) Working with engineering and product teams to build partnerships and technical integrations with those companies
3.) Connecting with internal stakeholders in product, engineering, marketing, and sales to drive the activation of these partnerships

I honestly love my job. I get to speak to startup founders and big tech co execs. I get to help shape the strategy for our business and our products. And most importantly, I get to meet people that will be in my personal and professional network for the rest of my life.

The skills I'm developing will last a lifetime. The relationships I'm developing will shape my life.

I cold-called literally 50-100 people every day in this role. I was shocked that this practice still existed in a large tech company. But it taught me resilience, persistence, and how to connect with literally anyone in 30 seconds. I'm appreciative of this opportunity to get me started in my career and learn how to be a professional.

Someone who had done this program before me described it as "adult summer camp". Could not agree more. The BLP program was wonderful. It was the entry into big tech that I needed. It has completely changed my personal and professional life. The people I met in the program have become some of my best friends. 

For work, they threw us right into the fire. We spent 3 months on our customer service team learning how to support angry people paying tons of money for LinkedIn products. It helped me understand how we make money, why customers buy our products, and why they do not. I struggled a lot in this role. I think it was because I didn't focus enough on onboarding, and was excited about my "next play". This was a good lesson for me; you have to succeed in the role you're in before looking for the next one. 

We then went into recruiting. I was on our Data Science recruiting team. I had no idea what I was talking about but learned how to sell candidates on LinkedIn. I learned that sometimes our hiring practices favour prestige (big company, great school, etc) which made me passionate about supporting those from underrepresented backgrounds. 

Along with these two official "rotations", I built a lot of great relationships with folks that have become my mentors. I helped to sell our learning product (LinkedIn Learning) to my alma mater. I got to work on a proposal to sell LinkedIn to the Canadian government. And I started working on side projects on the Business Development team, which led to a full-time role about a year later. 

I learned it takes a lot of patience to get what you want. I learned that building authentic relationships with professionals is key. I learned that people want to help if you ask for it.

Overall BLP was an amazing experience. I learned a ton and would recommend anyone else to do the same to get their feet wet within the tech industry, specifically for new grads.

We went full time on Casper Studios < 2 years ago. We’ve also already been working with Netflix and PepsiCo on one of the largest voice AI experiences built to date. How? Here's the story...

It starts with how we started the company: we like building cool products with AI.

Back in December 2022, we were just experimenting with new AI tools. We built our Chrome extension, Casper AI, honestly, just to learn. It took off, got real usage (~20k users), and built a little bit of credibility. That led to our first few customers as an agency.

Fast-forward a year, we started feeling this shift around voice. We thought, “Let’s build something that shows we know voice.” That’s how Yap was born, our first voice app.

It did not make a ton of money. It did teach us how to build voice products. It also acted as "CAC". 

For our business, building products helps us close customers. It doesn't have to generate revenue itself for the project to be a success. 

After we launched it, a few inbound requests followed from customers wanting us to build voice products.

Then one of our developers, Sean, mentioned that we were using LiveKit to power it, the same infra behind ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode. 

Interesting. I DM’d all their execs on LinkedIn, saying:

“We build voice agents on your platform. If you ever need help implementing it for other companies, let us know.”

A week later, we’re on a call with their team. Great people. Super friendly. They let me know they'd be in touch. A month later, I get a message from Chris:

“Hey, we’ve got a large media brand looking to build a voice experience. Want to partner?”

That “brand” turned out to be one of the largest marketing agencies Omnicom Media Group, and their subsidiary Goodby Silverstein & Partners. Their client? Netflix and PepsiCo. The project? A Stranger Things x Doritos activation.

I remember that weekend leading up to our pitch binge-watching Stranger Things. Derek had thankfully been a huge fan beforehand! That was also the moment that I knew he'd be an amazing partner for Casper. His work on the proposal blew me and the client away. 

I remember being in Boise for the Kit conference when we heard the news. It was so big for us. Still is. We knew we had to crush the project. Kelly ended up taking charge as the lead PM. It's corny to say, but she executed it flawlessly. 

The engineering was led by Sean. The launch went off without any issues. It's still active and growing today. It's now led to more potential voice activations like this moving forward. 

Now, okay, why was this a good project? We combine real strategy + real engineering. Most firms have one or the other, not both.

We have PMs who can talk to execs and engineers who can ship fast, and AI ties those two worlds together.

A year ago, we were building for tech startups. Now our growth is coming from PE. They see AI as a real value creation lever. We’re helping them implement it across portfolios in a no-nonsense way. Felt like time for a new look to match that shift.

Sharing a few new branding concepts from our site. Curious what you think. We tried to keep the tone still, feel like Casper, just crisper for the PE lens. 

For those in PE, any feedback on the copy or value prop? We’ll likely keep our main look and have a dedicated variation for PE.

Our "product" is good. Customers keep saying that. It's very rewarding to be figuring out how to implement AI that works. No buzzwords. Just cost savings and revenue impact. 

What I want to accelerate now is distribution. 

For PE, that means working with VPs inside firms, new search fund owners, and partners who want a straightforward view of how AI can drive EBITDA.

We’re new to the space, and that’s exciting. 

It feels like starting again in tech, but this time, with a strong team and incredible advisors. People like Derek Gibbs and Kelly Zhang with their Wharton MBAs, and clients like Graeme, who’s become a friend and advisor. We’re ready to help more.

A few wins this past week:

1.) We’ve continued to see great usage on the Netflix & Doritos activation. A vendor that powers these voice experiences mentioned it’s now one of the most used voice activations, right behind ChatGPT. That has led to more new conversations with other brands about running similar voice experiences. We're carving out a fun niche for ourselves on "voice AI experiences for massive consumer brands," which is super fun. 

2.) On voice, we co-hosted a voice AI training with Jacob Bank and the Relay.app team on Thursday. It went great, super hands-on, and we’ll probably run another soon. Over 80 people were in attendance. Comment below and I'll share the link. 

3.) Tatyana Mamut and I are also prepping for Dreamforce next week. Excited to show more of what we’ve been building for our mutual hedge fund client. Will have >100 financial services experts in the room to chat through how we can help them build AI agents at scale. 

4.) I hired PE advisors to help us make more inroads into low to mid-market PE firms. We're helping a few and their portfolio companies to integrate AI. If you're a PE VP/Operating Partner trying to figure out how to implement AI for your port co's DM me.

Here's another automation in Relay.app that saves ~5 hours a week of our Product Manager's time and helps us leverage voice agents with ElevenLabs even better.

Here’s how it works:
Our team interviews clients using voice agents powered by ElevenLabs. Until recently, reviewing and organizing those transcripts meant copying them from ElevenLabs into Google Docs. Total time suck.

So, we stitched together an automation using Relay. Now, once a voice interview finishes, it triggers a webhook that sends the transcript to a Google Sheet, finds the right folder in Drive, runs a custom script, and automatically generates a clean Google Doc with all the transcripts and insights organized. We also then put all the 1:1 convos with have from our Fireflies.ai transcripts in there too.

We use that doc as the foundation for building AI roadmaps during discovery, which is how we start most of our client engagements.

Outside of the fireworks that go off when I talk about how we’ve been implementing AI for hedge funds, this looks quite real. I’m still trying to think about how I feel about these new video models. What’s your take? Where do you think this is all leading us?

I’d say most vibe-coded apps that clients bring to us need to be rebuilt from scratch. The code usually isn’t production-ready, and even when it is, taking over after a likely random developers Claude-spun codebase doesn’t inspire confidence that it’ll hold up over time. 

Clients are usually a bit disappointed when we tell them that—but they get it. 

We think of those builds as prototypes—something created to test ideas, get feedback, and validate the market. When they bring it to us, our job is to make it production-ready.

After the Netflix launch, it’s been fun to prove we can do this at scale. It’s one of the most-used voice activations built, with minimal bugs or issues.

We’re ready for production. We’ll help take your vibe coded apps there.

It’s wild seeing AI services firms raise huge rounds lately. They are trying to be the next Palantir for AI. I think there’s a real opportunity there, but that's not where we want to play. 

For now, I’m proud to be the service provider. Not the "service provider only to get entrenched with an enterprise so we can sell you our platform" provider.

I’d rather use the best tools out there than try to recreate them. I don’t think we’ll outbuild the founders already deep in the platform race. I’d rather partner than compete with them.

Deel just passed $1b ARR. Their founder, Alex Bouaziz shared a few lessons on how. One that stood out? Speed of responsiveness.

It reminded me of a story about how this showed up at Casper recently and how I think it’s helping us win and deliver great service to clients.

Two weeks ago, on a Tuesday afternoon, I got an intro from a leading partner about a company that wanted us to build AI agents.

By 4 p.m., we had already hopped on a call with their team.
By 9 p.m., we’d sent the proposal.

Wednesday morning, we were back on a call to discuss specifics.

By 2 p.m., the SOW was sent. That afternoon, the contract was signed.
By Thursday morning, the first phase was paid for and the project kicked off.

The lesson here: there’s a direct relationship between trust and speed.
Speed builds trust, and trust lets you move faster. That flywheel matters. It underpins how I see the world and our business. 

I first learned this at LinkedIn when we launched the verification system that’s now approaching 100 million verified members. A small checkmark next to your name changes everything. It signals credibility. You don’t have to dig for proof; you just trust.

That same principle is what drives how we work at Casper Studios. 

Alex, appreciate your post, it’s a good reminder of why responsiveness and reliability are at the core of what we do.

Sora 2’s launch hit me differently. It felt like discovering a mirror for the first time. I can now see a world where AI-generated content outperforms human-only content. As someone who’s been creating for 10+ years, I have mixed feelings about that…

It was the first time I could see why AI-generated content will perform better —it makes it more personal.

The onboarding flow sets it apart. Most will copy it. You do a Face ID scan, just as you would when verifying your identity or setting up Apple Face ID. That becomes the main source of truth for creating your content. For the first time, you can see yourself in it instantly with no effort.

Most people don’t create content. And of those who do, even fewer put themselves in video form. It's too much effort and daunting.

There’s something human here. It feels like discovering a mirror for the first time. You’re looking at yourself. Squinting. Confused, wanting more.

People call Sora “AI slop.” I get it. It’s confusing and a bit scary, so it’s easier to dismiss. It is sloppy right now, but that’ll change. 

This reminds me of the 2022 “GPT wrapper” wave in tech circles. If you look past what smart, intellectual tech people say, there’s a ton of opportunity behind it.

We’re going to experiment with it more. Spinning up a few internal POCs. Ping me if you want to chat about some ideas there.

There’s a saying that your career is defined in the conversations that happen when you’re not in the room. The same is true for your business. 

What do people say about you when you’re not there? I want Casper to be the kind of company that stands out when execs are looking for a company with “an AI track record”. 

It’s still so early. We’re learning as we go. By no means do we have the perfect answers but we’re working hard with our clients to figure it out.

“We haven’t even talked to other vendors. We’re coming to you because the last project went so well. Can you share pricing so we can move forward?” — Insert large company name where the first AI project was a success :)

We’re working with large PE firms, public companies, and growth-stage-start-ups. Some north $10B in AUM or market cap. Here’s how I'm answering their leader's question," Where should I start with AI"?

Here are a few patterns I’ve seen work:
1.) Start where change is already happening. If a team or function is already in the middle of reworking its processes, say they’re upgrading a CRM or revamping internal tools, that’s often the best time to introduce AI. You’re not adding change on top of stability; you’re adding to momentum.

2.) Start where you have influence. For private equity firms, this typically involves starting with a portfolio company where they hold a majority stake or have strong operational control. You’ll move faster and avoid delays from external approvals or board politics. For bigger companies, that could mean that you have a good relationship with the exec who leads their team, one that cares about AI more than others.

3.) Start where you can leapfrog an existing tech stack. We’ve worked with traditional businesses, like a $10m+ pool supply company, that barely had any systems in place. Instead of retrofitting AI into legacy processes, we could build an entirely new “AI-first” system of record(s).

4.) Start where there’s scale. Larger teams = more inefficiency = more room for AI to create leverage. At Kit, for example, we started with their sales team because that’s where the biggest time and coordination costs lived.
Start where there’s low friction + more people.
 
5.) Politics matter. Some leaders are skeptical; others are eager to experiment. Focus on the internal champions, the ones who want to win with this technology.

6.) Start where regulation isn’t a blocker. In health tech or finance, that means working with functions that don’t involve PHI or require heavy compliance first. Prove value there, then expand.

Those are a few heuristics I’ve seen work, across public companies, PE portfolios, and growth-stage businesses, when answering the question: “Where do you start with AI?”.

I was asked recently by Stuart Willson if an enterprise had a $1m to spend on AI initiatives, where should they allocate it? Here is my response below…

Reflecting on timing today and its importance of your success as a company. 

Looking back at our own growth over the past couple quarters, it’s clear that people are finally ready to implement AI into their businesses. Thankfully, we’ve just been in the market a little longer than most long enough that when people start thinking about where to begin, they usually come talk to us first. That momentum keeps building.

What’s been interesting lately is how many clients we’re meeting who already have really sharp ideas about the products they want to build. They’re thinking on the edge. Sometimes, when I’m listening, I find myself wondering, is this a real problem today, or one that’ll become massive a year or two from now?

There’s a lot of great technical talent in the Bay Area thinking about how to build for a world where agents are everywhere. I’m nodding along, because those are exciting problems to solve. Elements of it we’re seeing today. 

But I’m also aware that timing matters. Some problems might be just a bit too early, maybe the right thing is to wait for the infrastructure or society to catch up. Or maybe something will happen tomorrow that makes all of this urgent overnight.

Timing is funny like that, you can’t control it. You can only be ready for when it breaks your way. And right now, I’m just grateful that a few elements of timing seem to be working in our favor. Who knows how long it’ll last but for now, it feels like we’re in a good spot
