I work in Business Development for LinkedIn. What does that mean? Well, I spend my days doing one of three things:

1.) Working with our legal team to execute and negotiate deals with companies in LinkedIn's ecosystem
2.) Working with engineering and product teams to build partnerships and technical integrations with those companies
3.) Connecting with internal stakeholders in product, engineering, marketing, and sales to drive the activation of these partnerships

I honestly love my job. I get to speak to startup founders and big tech co execs. I get to help shape the strategy for our business and our products. And most importantly, I get to meet people that will be in my personal and professional network for the rest of my life.

The skills I'm developing will last a lifetime. The relationships I'm developing will shape my life.

I cold-called literally 50-100 people every day in this role. I was shocked that this practice still existed in a large tech company. But it taught me resilience, persistence, and how to connect with literally anyone in 30 seconds. I'm appreciative of this opportunity to get me started in my career and learn how to be a professional.

Sales Development

Someone who had done this program before me described it as "adult summer camp". Could not agree more. The BLP program was wonderful. It was the entry into big tech that I needed. It has completely changed my personal and professional life. The people I met in the program have become some of my best friends. 

For work, they threw us right into the fire. We spent 3 months on our customer service team learning how to support angry people paying tons of money for LinkedIn products. It helped me understand how we make money, why customers buy our products, and why they do not. I struggled a lot in this role. I think it was because I didn't focus enough on onboarding, and was excited about my "next play". This was a good lesson for me; you have to succeed in the role you're in before looking for the next one. 

We then went into recruiting. I was on our Data Science recruiting team. I had no idea what I was talking about but learned how to sell candidates on LinkedIn. I learned that sometimes our hiring practices favour prestige (big company, great school, etc) which made me passionate about supporting those from underrepresented backgrounds. 

Along with these two official "rotations", I built a lot of great relationships with folks that have become my mentors. I helped to sell our learning product (LinkedIn Learning) to my alma mater. I got to work on a proposal to sell LinkedIn to the Canadian government. And I started working on side projects on the Business Development team, which led to a full-time role about a year later. 

I learned it takes a lot of patience to get what you want. I learned that building authentic relationships with professionals is key. I learned that people want to help if you ask for it.

Overall BLP was an amazing experience. I learned a ton and would recommend anyone else to do the same to get their feet wet within the tech industry, specifically for new grads.

How the IBM TechXchange Sticker Hunt Reveals the Power of the Partner Ecosystem?

The Sticker Scavenger Hunt at IBM TechXchange offered a powerful lens into IBM’s partner ecosystem. With a water bottle featuring 24 empty hexagons, I spent 2.5 hours engaging with IBM Partners across the sandbox. Each sticker collected told a unique story of collaboration, specialization, and co-innovation.

I explored technology like Red Hat and HashiCorp, both acquired by IBM, other solution providers such as Preset and Superset, industry specialists, and service innovators. All working alongside IBM to extend capabilities and deliver complete solutions. Along the way, I earned 1500 points, advanced to 4th place on the leaderboard, and walked away with real insights into 20+ partner integrations.

Beyond the hunt, I participated in a hands-on lab on automating watsonx.data intelligence using the Watson Data API. The lab demonstrated how automated data lineage, metadata enrichment, and cataloging can streamline data management, enhance transparency, and empower business users with access to trusted data. This is where IBM’s partner ecosystem plays a critical role, providing the integrations and services that turn data intelligence into action

I also attended key sessions including Deloitte’s “The AI Adoption Journey: Insights from the Front Lines,” Dell Technologies’s “IBM and Dell’s Future Computing Today,” and had a great conversation with Visa about their partnership with IBM. I’ll share more from those in an upcoming recap newsletter.

The biggest takeaway? IBM is not only a technology provider, bus an orchestrator of an ecosystem. Today's announcement of IBM's partnership with Anthropic to integrate Claude AI into IBM's software portfolio exemplifies this approach perfectly. Partners fill capability gaps, accelerate delivery, bring deep industry knowledge, and co-create solutions that no single vendor could deliver alone.

The sticker hunt went beyond collecting badges, mapping the future of enterprise innovation one partner at a time.

What if your IT team could reclaim 95% of the time they spend on patching and redirect it to innovation?

Sounds impossible? An IT Security Manager at an automotive company had the same skepticism until they didn't.  "We had no patch cycle and nothing consistent before, but all of our machines are now up to date thanks to Endpoint Central."

That's a quote from Forrester Consulting's Total Economic Impact study on ManageEngine UEMS endpoint management.

The challenge they faced. One you probably recognize:
Manual patching. Firefighting compliance issues. Losing track of software licenses that they were paying for but not using. Days spent each month just trying to pull reports with low confidence in the data.
Then something shifted.

The composite organization in Forrester's study (representing $2B in revenue,  10,000 employees, 15,000 endpoints) saw:
✅ 442% ROI over three years
✅ $4.5M in total benefits
✅ Payback in under 6 months

Where the money came from:
✅ $913K from automated patch management (95%-time savings)
✅ $922K from self-service and remote support
✅ $820K from reclaiming unused licenses and gaining real-time asset visibility

The transformation went beyond dollars: Compliance jumped from 70% to 95%. One IT Director reduced cyber insurance costs because of their improved security posture.

Pilot launched in four months. Marketing adjusts tone conversationally—no developers needed.

Build-A-Bear: Joy Meets Intelligence

My favorite? Creating a personalized video with a teddy bear while demonstrating MuleSoft data integration. “Build-A-Bear puts a heart in every bear. You put the heart in every customer experience.”

Playing Chess with AI

The tour ended unexpectedly playing chess against an AI robot. Watching it calculate moves and physically adapt was the perfect metaphor: AI and humans in thoughtful collaboration, each bringing unique strengths.
