The design was refreshed and enhanced to reflect the professional and premium quality of the brand in line with the high scale treatments on offer.

This prestigious clinic required SEO to improve website visibility in the cosmetic market place which was dealt with by myself using a mix of on site, off site SEO and social media.

In this role I was given the role of managing the SEO for Bathrooms.com. Within this role I was responsible for the optimisation of Bathrooms.com. I also managed the SEO workload, assigned tasks to 3rd parties assisting with SEO etc. 

During this role I improved website positions significantly achieving a page 1 placement in Google UK for the keyword "Bathrooms" along with many other bathroom and shower related keywords. During this role I gave orders to merge Bathroom Evolution with Bathrooms.com, and then oversaw the re-direct setup, canonical setup & more. 

I delegated link building responsibilities to a 3rd party agency who was working with Bathrooms.com, and managed the off-site marketing through link building and press release submissions. During the period of employment I increased positions significantly and made significant contributions towards the websites status.

I'm fed up of LLM tracking without true clarity on what visibility truly means.

At least with a good old ranking report for a client they could go search in google and see roughly where they ranked in relation to the ranking report.

LLM tracking is so obscure it's unreal.

Because you can report whatever you want, a client cannot go and perform the same prompt search and see themselves.

Too much ambiguity, personalisation amongst many other things.

Google search was at least semi consistent.

LLMs are about as consistent as a granny giving you PI to the 100th decimated place.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with pretending that you appear more.

Fact is, LLMs do not have a consistent index like Google, they are prediction based with personalisation - how the hell are you going to rely on that?

This isn't hate for LLM trackers, but I'll tell you now even if you didn't track you could easily set up a custom looker studio with filters for AI sources via channel/medium and just go by the volume of clicks you get.

LLMs are inconsistent.

LLM tracking is biased.

Do the maths.

Your 87% visibility score means f**k all.

What matters is the actual traffic and conversions you get.

I hit the 100,000 follower mark on LinkedIn! 

It's been one hell of a journey, years and years of posting, strategising, creating videos, educational content, SEO tips and more.

I joined LinkedIn in 2012.

I barely posted anything for 7 years, I put the odd thing here and there.

In 2019 I had around 1500 followers, I remember telling my business partner at the time that I was going to put my heart and soul into LinkedIn.

And that;s when I decided that I was going to go all out and make LinkedIn my place to go to share and express my love and passion for SEO.

In 2020 I reached 8000 followers.
In 2021 I reached 21000 followers.
In 2022 I reached 46000 followers.
In 2023 I reached 67000 followers.
In 2024 I reached 80000 followers.
In 2025 I reached 100000 followers.

I didn't cheat.
I never once used a POD.

I did one thing CONSISTENTLY and that's show up daily.

I kick started my growth by posting aggressive stances on SEO - it upset people and it was controversial - but, that's because I got fed up of seeing so much rubbish.

I propelled my growth by trying to give as much back to the community as possible.

I gave:

Because we're human and at the end of the day - Linkedin became the place of only seeing what "everyone" wants you to see.

But, I didn't care about that, I wanted people to be able to relate.

Being here doesn't mean you need to fake anything, you don't need to pretend that everything is perfect, people see through it.

People want to see:

➡️ Real struggles

➡️ Real passion

➡️ Real commitment to their industry

And that's why if you show up EACH day and give it your best and you persist you will connect with more and more amazing people in, around and outside of the industry.

The fact is that:

✅ LinkedIn drove MORE revenue across my businesses than all other channels

✅ People are MORE likely to engage with what they can relate to

✅ Everyone knows that the grass isn't as green as people portray

✅ Being open, honest, passionate brings you MORE opportunities than anything else

The reality is........................

If you want LinkedIn to work for you, you need to work for it.

There's NO hacks, there's no cheating, there's no getting by with mediocre content.

You HAVE to ooze passion, you have to WANT to share what you have to give with other people on their journey.

Nothing in life comes for free, nothing is EASY.

Show up, do what you do best, be relatable, genuine and aim to help others and if you CONSISTENTLY do this, you will grow, you'll reach MORE people, you'll earn more connections and ultimately this can help YOU scale.

SEO is still fully viable and alive in 2025.

It's harder to get informational clicks.

It's harder to get transactional clicks.

It's harder to get clicks.

But it's still possible with the right approach to still grow, to sell more products and generate a good ROI.

So what's the strategy?

1. Focus MORE on building brand, a lot of SEO did this indirectly, a lot of it via articles and blogs which drove brand awareness even at a pre purchase stage

2. Focus on juicing up value pages with better links and more of them, excess diversification in SEO strategies creates a compounding over-reliance on links which often becomes unsustainable 

3. Focus on user experience and engagement, this really plays a significant part of SEO because of how Google's HCU will look at behaviour, engagement and sub search or new search behavior

4. Go beyond adding value via text, this isnt just about optimizing content for users, it's about presenting it in such a way that makes users engage and interact

5. Strengthen content by adding new value, look at what content could have around it to support it, consider videos and tools to bolster this

6. Create positive brand sentiment and trust, this means brand searches, search variation, reviews, citations 

7. Use social to distribute content of maximum value, you can use tools like Lovable, Claude code, Bolt to create in page applications that really help users

8. Build a community via social and UGC channels - spend time really crafting a solid UGC and social strategy 

9. Maximize technical SEO compliance where possible, focus more on core factors rather than things of lower priority, focus on

- rendering
- dom output analysis
- URL internal link consistency
- Eliminate internal redirection
- Maximise internal link consistency
- Ensure appropriate HTTP status handling
- Consider nav, footer links and prioritize
- Focus on clean crawls
- Minimalise reliance on canonicals
- Manage URL parameters
- Manage crawlability
- Manage accessibility

10. Content quality should align with best practice in terms of

- Content NLP
- Content YMYL/EEAT
- Content management (dead content, decaying content, keyword overlap, cannibalisation)
- Content information prioritisation (use AlsoAsked )
- Content writing style, tone of voice, sentiment

11. Get links from domains with traffic

- Focus on traffic as primary metric
- Don't worry about DR/TF
- Mix strategy between HARO style, pitch and earn, digital PR and vetted niche edits
- Reclaim lost links via legacy URLS

12. Optimize and reduce non indexed pages in GSC

- Clean up and eliminate dead URLS
- Control legacy URLS i.e. http 410
- Eliminate Google selected canonicals
- Remove internal links to redirects
- Remove content that's active but crawled and not indexed
- Fix internal links to active content that's discovered currently not indexed


and loads more.

Good SEO still works.

Focus on quality, compliance, consistency and end users.

BIG NEWS! Adobe to acquire Semrush

To be honest - with Adobe moving into analytics & now seemingly realising that there's a much more captive audience in digital marketing tools / AI tracking - it's no wonder they've gone for SEMRUSH given the size of the user base.

This isn't the first time Adobe has acquired platforms nor will it be the last.

It's VERY likely that tech giants will diversify so that their user base and reach is protected in erroding markets! 

But - what does this say about the SEO industry?

Well a lot!

Adobe will have conducted a lot of due diligence, therefore they'll be aware of what many SEOs are already aware of - THE SEO MARKET CONTINUES TO GROW!

EVEN WITH AI + CONVERSATIONAL SEARCH TAKING PLACE (and the arguements over GEO) the fact is SEO is growing, the demand is growing, the market is growing and tech giants know it!

It will be interesting to see how this plays out and how Adobe will integrate itself into the SEMRUSH brand - especially since Adobe has its only analytics platform.

SHOULD YOU DISAVOW LINKS?

In short - NO YOU SHOULD NOT unless you explicitly KNOW what you are doing / or have received a manual action for spam.

Disavowing links takes away link equity (even if the links are rubbish)

Link weight is algorithmic - so even CRAPPY links pass weight - when they have an impact is:

1. You get short term "inflationary benefits" until
    > Spam update devalues the links and you lose the equity
    > You get a manual action / search console notification

2. The benefit is short-lived (ranking gains followed by losses)
    > You can get days, weeks, months of ranking benefit
    > Losses can be either at a manual review or algorithmic

A lot of people filed disavows because:

1. They got INFLUENCED by tools promoting "spam/toxic links"

2. SEOs who were less experienced thought it would be a good thing to do

The reality is:

1. ALL link equity is link equity good or bad

2. You will expect to naturally accrue rubbish links that you haven't orchestrated - many of you likely saw floods of links with anchor texts including TELEGRAM SEO /
TELEGRAM @SEO_LINKK / SEO BLACKHAT LINKS etc.

3. Google is SIGNIFICANTLY better at filtering out spam + scale and faster - whilst spam still gets through, Google is much better at catching it and discrediting the domain at source 

4. Manual actions are SIGNIFICANTLY less common now - primarily because blackhat spam attacks facilitated millions of manual actions in the past - Google's approach to dealing with spam has changed so that negative links aren't penal - BUT, if you have CLEAR link abuse that looks orchestrated it CAN still raise a manual action


IF YOU HAVE A DISAVOW FILED AND HAVE NO HISTORIC MANUAL ACTION!

You can consider doing a STAGED removal.

Download your DISAVOW

Break it into smaller DISAVOW files and re-submit with a reduction each time over 4-6 weeks and repeat.

I've done this for lots of clients and in many cases it proved to be BENEFICIAL!

You can of course leave ABSOLUTE spam (domains) in a disavow.

Google Search Console has added annotations + looks to be rolling out BRANDED QUERY FILTERING. 

Of course these things are massively overdue and they do help!

✏️ Annotations:

Great for keeping track of important events, website changes, key things that may have happened i.e. dev changes, text/content changes etc.

📝 Branded Query Filtering:

So - this will make it easier and quicker to segment brand in our out of data.

BUT to note!

When you apply ANY form of filtering in Google Search Console you lose anonymised data. 

But WHY?

Google search console data is a mix of anonymised and non-anonymised click data:

1. Anonymised data is where a click is recorded but where there is no query/page data for the click to be applied against

2. Non anonymised data is where a click can be paired to a query, page etc.

WHEN you apply any filters in search console, it HAS to remove the anonymised clicks because they cannot be included where a filter is applied.

This is why the Google Search Console reported CLICKS in the line graph will show different amounts than what you see in the table.

The LINE GRAPH in Google Search Console shows all of the clicks (anonymised and non-anonymised) BUT the table can only show data where it exists.

1. View the amount of anonymised click data vs non anonymised

2. We've made ANNOTATIONS significantly more powerful

3. We've made creating and saving brand query filters with AI a doddle!

So many arguements about SEO / AEO / GEO.

Listen up - if a horse can be black, brown, white, then AEO / GEO are another colour of the SEO horse.

Let's cut the crap, I need to shut this one down so here goes:

SEO spent near on 2 decades being about keywords, content, links.

Then Google brought AI / Machine learning to the table.

RankBrain
BERT
NEURAL MATCHING
MUM
SpamBrain
HCU / HCS

That's when SEO began to pivot to:

SHIT - what do end users want?

TRUST - can I trust this brand for a service? a product? advice?

ENGAGEMENT - is the content good / presentation good? interactions good?

BEHAVIOUR - pogo? scrolls? repeat searches? bounce? pages per session?

And this is what SEO has been evolving from for 5+ years now.


The reality IS simply that SEO is the culmination of TRADITIONAL SEO

> Good technical SEO for crawl, render, index

along with MODERN SEO

> Good content (intent, quality, priority, sentiment, tone, NLP, trust)

> Good trust (links, authors, brand mentions, citations, business etc)

> Good engagement/behaviour (retention, scroll, interaction, depth, onward search behaviour)


And the reality of WHAT WE SEE people who PROMOTE GEO is to take these concepts and re-word them.

LLMS are LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS - they work from prediction / tokenisation but have the ability to ground / RAG.

SO - if you want to be CITED MORE in LLMS it's pretty clear that the SAME things that make your content GOOD and more visible organically are naturally going to bleed into LLM citations.

You can argue that a horse isn't a horse unless it's brown - but the fact is SEO and the impacts of it are ultimately tied in with what GEO is.

That's not to say there AREN'T different methodologies or ways of "influencing" LLMS - as anything that's done LLM side is separate to SEO i.e. reputation abuse, LLM poisoning etc.

Think of it like this.

PPC requires GOOD LANDING PAGES, it requires the same thing in many aspects that SEO is, that doesn't make PPC SEO.

But equally we don't have the arguement over what's what - they are their own channels.

GEO can be it's own channel - but don't reword a load of SEO stuff as if its exclusive to GEO when it isn't.

For the last few years I used query counting as a way of ranking in Google. (That's using keyword counts to assess impact of work.)

It's STILL an effective method to rank in 2025 onwards.

If you can see:

1. What trajectory served queries are on

2. How relevant those queries are

3. The journey across position groups

4. Visualisations of that data

it makes it SIGNIFICANTLY easier to see what trajectory pages, page groups or the entire domain is on.

Sometimes it can take months, even years to rank for things (niche and query dependent) so ascertaining trajectory is key).

Query counting along with annotating what changes you've made, links you've built etc. makes it easier to look at causation/correlation.

You can also assess losses in a much better way i.e.:

1. If query counts are maintained but clicks drop it's usually position slippage or CTR erosion from AIOs etc

2. If query counts decline it is usually a result of devaluation which can be core update related or where your content begins naturally decaying i.e. lack of helpfulness 

Query counts may also play some benefit when looking at coverage for RAG in LLMs.

SEO continues to go through a paradigm shift. Whilst I appreciate things change I do think it's an unfair model.

Google and publishers/creators had a relatively good long running relationship, Google crawls the web, crawls sites and in exchange it delivers a click.

That exchange of value is diminishing.

Google trained Gemini scraping the web but the ability to get clicks in return falls, what's worse is Google has become relentless at hoovering up traffic and keeping it, even now blending sponsored results with organic to the point where CTR nose dives.

Google makes more profit.

Marketers have a much harder job with diminishing returns.

I hope this broadens marketer and SEO focus to a more Omni channel strategy.

Some of the things Google has done;

Introduced AI Overviews /Gemini answers that surface full-funnel answers without needing to click through.

Expanded SERP features (featured snippets, People Also Ask, knowledge panels) that extract publisher content but absorb user intent.

Pushed zero-click behaviours by answering queries directly on the SERP weather, sports, finance, definitions, conversions, etc.

Blended sponsored ads with organic so distinction is blurred and CTR collapses, especially on mobile.

Increased ad density & scroll-jacking layouts pushing organic further down the viewport.

Scraped and trained AI models on web content while giving fewer referral clicks back to the origin sites.

Local packs, map packs, shopping units, and product listings that take over commercial intent SERPs and reduce organic reach.

Vertical search expansion (Flights, Hotels, Shopping, Jobs) where Google competes directly with businesses it once supported.

Constant UI tweaks that favour Google owned elements and depress organic CTR even when rankings stay stable.

SEO for 2026 is going to continue to shift.

I believe AI mode and traditional search will shift towards being blended or at least AI mode becoming more and more prominent in traditional search.

I believe SEOs will need to start thinking more omni-channel and conversion optimisation to help prop up revenue and fuel revenue growth with less traffic or with a more diversified traffic portfolio.

Good traditional SEO will continue for now, but how we get clicks and the push to convert them will be more challenging in the future.

The SEO Agency world is a stressful place, equally, it's exciting, it's challenging, it keeps you hungry.

BUT, you have to have the right stuff if you are going to get into the SEO agency space, especially as the industry requires the principle of "adapt and pivot".

Here's what I learned during the 18 years running Assertive which I hope will help others in their journey.

1. You will look for another YOU, but you'll rarely find another you

2. Micromanaging kills growth - unless you learn to step back and get the right people in place you'll always end up micromanaging

3. YOU will find bad staff/resources or they'll find you - accept it, not everyone is right for the roles they apply for

4. SEO is a complex game, it's a complex interplay of finding the right SEO expertise (team), right management framework & building a client base from properly set expectations and not "sales spiel"

5. You are HIGHLY LIKELY to encounter:

➡️ Client's who don't understand SEO & expect miracles

➡️ Client's who don't understand SEO, have little to no money & expect miracles

➡️ Client's who don't understand SEO & have no patience

➡️ Client's who may hire you only to undermine or block/stiffle your work

➡️ Client's who have insufficient budget who believe it's possible

➡️ Client's who have good budgets but unreasonable goals/timeframes

➡️ Client's who have good budgets & expectations but can't get things done

➡️ Client's who have complex internal processes that block things getting done

➡️ Good client's who pay, get things done & work with you / help however they can

➡️ Good client's who become bad clients

➡️ Bad client's who don't pay for their work

➡️ SEOs who moonlight

➡️ SEOs who get bored or dissatisfied or feel unappreciated in a role quickly

➡️ SEOs who are good

Expect everything!

6. SEO is changing all the time - you NEED SEOs who know how to test, keep themselves up to date

7. You should ENCOURAGE SEOs to test on their own assets, find, discover, share insights

8. Support internal team stakeholders properly (good management)

9. Build a GOOD network of people i.e. PPC's, Content writers, Developers, Social specialists, UX specialists - you never know when you may need one

10. Good and bad clients come and go - it's about how you filter new business at source & how their expectations are at the outset

11. Agencies CAN and DO go through periods of more gains and equally can go through periods of more losses - its JUST a case of resillience

12. There will be challenging times, i.e. a high budget client gets hit badly by a Google core update,  clients who question why clicks/impressions trend down despite good work being done - it's about HONESTY & being able to calmly deal with and explain to clients

13. CUT NON PAYERS as clients quickly - you don;t need that

14. Credit check!

15. Pay your staff / resources on time, reward people who really demonstrate commitment and dedication to their role

16. DON'T be afraid to say no

SEO TIP! This is a BIG one for anyone VIBE coding a website.

Lovable (like some vibe coding apps) do NOT output content that search engines like Google can properly crawl or render.

Lovable for example uses VITE/REACT and is an SPA.

BUT! You can make it SEO friendly!

Here's how you do it without having to use Netlify etc.

1. Set up a CLOUDFLARE account

2. Change your DOMAIN nameserver to point to Cloudflare

3. IN cloudflare you should set up a NON PROXIED C NAME to your lovable app URL  - create a CNAME for root domain and WWW make sure PROXY IS TURNED OFF!

4. Remove ANY A record associated with the website 

5. Go to your LOVABLE project settings and remove your domain binding, then RE-ADD it, copy the TXT record and add it to Cloudflare, ensure host is set to _lovable.www

6. Head over to prerender.io and set up a FREE account and add your domain

8. Go back to LOVABLE and the domain should AUTO-VERIFY within a few minutes

There are nuances from an SEO perspective such as setting titles, descriptions etc - which you can do if you vibe code a backend for your website where you can set meta.

This NICHES are BRUTAL to rank in - but, there's so much more to ranking than just good content and links - there's also some other things that look FAIRLY consistent (depending on how they were executed but):

Hyper-competitive niches that are "dirtier" or "more aggressive" are subject to:

1. Significant volatility in SERPS with regular changes, new results appearing and disappearing - usually parasite SEO, exploit spam, aggressive link consolidation/PBNS

2. SERP cycles - where a batch of sites will ALL go down together whilst a batch of new sites take their place - EVEN good, strong sites can see this happen

3. The FASTER they grow, the quicker they sink - that's too true in many SERPS/niches - why? because of Google's HCU algo + SpamBrain amongst other things - sites that grow rapidly ALSO will have mounds of user behavioural data faster - these sites are ALSO more typical of ones that use some form of spam to rank quicker - and therefore, remain UNSUSTAINABLE

4. SERP Behavioural Cycling - SERP updates aren't JUST about content, links and the usual, tweaks to "behaviour" evaluation can arrise from sites that rank over time - it sets an adjusted precedent and subsequently the criteria to rank on behaviour SHIFTS

5. SERP/Niche specific interventions - it's likely that Google's manual reviewers are going to scrutinise competitive niche SERPS more regularly

6. SERP/Niche independent ranking factors / evaluation i.e. Payday Loans

7. It's HARDER to get good links, good brand mentions, citations, brand search volume - a lot of competitive niche SEO involves some form of manipulation from spam hacks, PBNS, CTR manipulation, social engineering etc.


I look at SO many SERPS daily - I work in highly competitive niches, so I spend a lot of time looking at:

1. SERP shifts and shift points

2. Query counts

3. Ranking site profiles (content, depth, quality, sub links, brand trends etc)

4. Link growth + accruement rates, link networks, PBNS etc

5. Content - variations between content by position, types, CTAs, presentation, layout, prioritisation

6. Brand - links, brand search volumes, autosuggests, citations, trust factors

It's crazy what SEOs get up to for ranking leverage.

I've seen it all from exploited pages on domains through to parasite SEO, multi-domain catch + consolidation, domain redirection, tier 3/4+ spamming, manipulated behaviour via residential proxies + software

Equally these niches are SO exciting - because ranking in them makes big ££££££££
