Semrush is getting acquired by Adobe in an all-cash deal valuing Semrush at ~$1.9B.

Adobe is paying $12.00 per share for Semrush, which is a ~77.5% premium to the last close of $6.76.

The take-private price is well above the recent $6–9 range but still below its 12-month high around $18–19, so long-term holders are selling at a discount to prior peaks.

The strategic rationale behind the acquisition:

Adobe plugs Semrush’s SEO + online visibility platform into Adobe Experience Cloud 

And that, to help brands understand visibility across search, social, and AI assistants/LLMs like ChatGPT and Gemini.

My take:

The SaaS consolidation wave that voices like Santosh Sharan have been talking about is here.

This week, SEMrush was acquired. 

Just a couple of weeks ago, Positive acquired Surfer.

And that’s only in the SEO/AEO space.

That aside, Adobe’s play here seems pretty clear:

They see the rise of AI search and want in by acquiring a company with a strong brand, a large customer base, and the tech to back it all.

Unlike the Figma deal, I don’t expect this acquisition to face regulatory scrutiny—so it’s likely to go through smoothly.

Whether this will benefit Semrush's customers remains to be seen.

For now, congrats to both Semrush and Adobe for making it happen.

If there’s one thing I’d credit, it’s ambition.

As Johnny Depp (playing George Jung in Blow) said:

“… my ambition far exceeded my talent.”

And, by the way, ambition doesn’t need permission.

You just need a reason—and I’ve got mine.

Last week, AirOps announced a $40M Series B at a $225M valuation.

One misconception from a few people reacting to the news is that they see AirOps as just an AI search visibility tool.

But that’s not what AirOps is.

AI search visibility and tracking are already becoming commoditized. 

(Even though, as I was telling my friend Nigel the other day, the problem isn’t fully solved.)

They matter, but they’re not the be-all and end-all for winning in AI search.

AirOps goes well beyond simple AI search tracking.

It enables you to act on AI search opportunities, but it doesn’t stop there.

Its workflow-like capabilities make it the marketing OS for today’s environment.

And it can’t be easily replaced by vertical-and-use-case-agnostic tools such as Zapier or n8n.

Put simply, you don’t raise $40M for building an AI search tracker. 

You raise that kind of round by building the platform marketing teams—not just search teams—need to win in this complex, ever-evolving landscape.

I’ve been following AirOps closely since Eoin and Josh got on board, and I've had several positive interactions with the team since then.

If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that nothing should be taken for granted, and that you always need to iterate and push forward.

Just to be clear: content marketing ≠ SEO. It became synonymous with SEO because too many content marketers could only churn out “SEO blogs.” That’s not content marketing.

We’ve been refining our prospecting process at Minuttia.

Here’s how it currently looks:

According to a survey of 195 GTM leaders:

“51% plan to increase their investment in AI search. In contrast, only 14% plan to invest more in SEO.”

As Charlie Munger said: “We’re fishing where the fish are.”

And we’re constantly iterating based on what we learn.

Of course, turning a new deal into a closed deal is its own challenge. And even after that, the pressure is on to deliver results, fast.

But I have full confidence in Minuttia - AEO Agency’s team to execute, especially under the leadership of Zacharias Xiroudakis.

I’ve never been to India before, let alone spoken at an event there.

What bothers me about most of the advice on how to win in AI search is that it’s essentially SEO, plus brand and a great product, disguised as the marketing innovation of the century. I don’t think overcomplicating things benefits anyone.

I joined LinkedIn about 9 years ago and started posting shortly after. Things were slow at first, but the algorithm was much more rewarding back then, regardless of my follower count. Or the fact that I was relatively unknown, had no connections, no story to tell, and not much to share.

The first couple of years were basically trial, error, and learning. Eventually, I think I “cracked the code” and like many other creators and business owners, I started to benefit from the platform. Of course, I wasn’t always consistent—just like most people running businesses and using content as a growth lever.

All in all, LinkedIn has been good to me. I’ve generated revenue, spoken at events, gained visibility, and even made a few good friends along the way. And for that, I’m grateful.

LinkedIn has been a place where opinions meet, ideas are shared, and opportunities come out of the blue.

But lately, things look a bit different. The feed is full of irrelevant company ads, “thought leaders” boosting their posts to the wrong audiences, bragging, inaccurate information from creators with *too much* influence, and audiences that rarely push back, and spam messages from folks trying to sell anything you can imagine.

But that’s not even the worst part. Because unless you pay (read: thought leader ads) or participate in tactics like engagement pods, you often feel close to invisible on the platform.

You’ve seen the posts. People reach out to LinkedIn to ask if they’re shadowbanned. I’ve done that too, by the way. Even mega-influencers (for the context of LinkedIn) with large audiences have started complaining, which shows that this touches everyone. People are already talking about “de-risking” and “building on other platforms” to avoid keeping all their eggs in one basket.

The thing is: we put a lot of effort into this content. And most of us know our audiences really well. We obviously do it because of the incentive, which is different for every person (for me, it’s the things I mentioned above). But if the incentive isn’t there, people will look for alternatives sooner or later. Many already do.

And that’s not good for LinkedIn—or for the people who mostly consume content here—because many of the best creators will eventually move elsewhere.

I really hope the team at LinkedIn listens to its users—the people who keep the platform alive by putting in all these hours to create great content and engage here—and take action that benefits both its business and those of us who are trying to build real businesses and personal brands with the help of LinkedIn.

Creators, users, and LinkedIn all win when the best content actually has a chance to be seen.

Elon Musk’s Grokipedia is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing sites on the web.

And that’s despite all the changes and volatility in organic search.

Here are a few interesting observations:

1) According to SEMrush, the site brings in ~20K organic visits per month and ranks for ~49.2K keywords. Not bad for a site that barely had a footprint just a month ago.

2) Most of its visibility comes from AI Overviews, “People also ask,” and “Things to know” SERP features.

3) Grokipedia claims to have over 1M articles in its database, yet a basic Google site search shows less than half of that indexed. This indexation gap presents a major opportunity as more of the content gets picked up.

4) SEMrush gives the site an Authority Score of just 2. According to Grok, the articles are “generated entirely by me—Grok, the large language model built by xAI.” This shows that a low-authority site with fully AI-generated content can still gain visibility and grow its organic footprint quickly. Of course, the scale and quality of Grok’s output are beyond reach for most brands—but the results speak for themselves.

5) Grokipedia’s content is primarily informational—again, contradicting the SEO consensus that informational content no longer drives traffic or visibility. Clearly, that’s not what we’re seeing here.

6) One clear opportunity is to better connect Grokipedia’s traffic with Grok itself. Right now, there’s neither a clear association between Grok and Grokipedia nor any effort to funnel traffic between the two. That’s a missed opportunity—Grok could ride Grokipedia’s growing visibility to boost its own traffic and brand recognition. Something for Elon’s team to consider.

I first heard about Grokipedia a month ago on an episode of the All-In podcast. The progress since then has been impressive. I’d love to revisit the site next year to see if the upward trend continues.

I built a small tool that turns keywords into high-quality AI prompts.

Sure, plenty of AI trackers already do this (just not very well).

So I built something custom for Minuttia - AEO Agency’s team and clients.

The logic is simple. You plug in:

a) The keywords you want to generate prompts for
b) Your website for context
c) The number of prompts you want to generate per keyword (max. 5)
d) A description of your brand
e) A short description of your target audience

Every prompt gets a search-intent label, based on Minuttia’s internal intent framework.

While reviewing citations from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and AI Overviews for one of Minuttia - AEO Agency’s clients, I noticed something interesting.

The most frequently cited pages seem to fall into two categories:

1 — Pages that explain the company and its product capabilities. Think: buyer's guides or walkthroughs on how to complete a specific task using the product's features.

2 — Pages offering unique insights or proprietary data from customers. For example, a report focused on a market segment the company knows deeply.

Of course, this isn’t statistically significant—it’s based on a single client, not a broad dataset.

#2 isn’t exactly surprising. Proprietary data and customer insights often get cited in AI search because of their uniqueness.

But #1 is worth paying closer attention to. Even though the general notion is that you shouldn’t be overly promotional or avoid talking about yourself, talking about yourself (in the proper context) may actually drive visibility.

There are many ways to do that—buyer guides, feature-driven use cases, alternative listicles, comparison pieces, and software roundups. All ways to talk about yourself (without overdoing it).

Staying unbiased is tough, but it’s possible. And based on this example, it’s probably worth the effort. 

Again, not statistically significant. Just an observation that might help shape your content strategy in an AI-driven search world.

I spoke with a Series A SaaS founder last week. Not a first-time founder. He’s been building SaaS companies since the late ‘90s.

I asked him about the toughest moments he’s faced building this company.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought he’d have it all figured out. After all, he’s been doing this for nearly 30 years, right?

And then he started talking.

He described a grueling 2-year stretch chasing product-market fit.

Pivoting the company with 3 months’ worth of runway in the bank. 

Narrowing the focus to one use case. Raising an oversubscribed round off the back of a working prototype, just before running out of cash (and time).

Then the money hit the bank, but the bank was SVB. The funds were frozen. He didn’t sleep for three nights because he couldn't process payroll. 

What I realize is that we often romanticize entrepreneurship. We think it gets easier the more you do it.

Sure, there’s some truth to that, but not in the way most people think. You’ve seen some things, you’ve made some mistakes. That helps.

But it never gets easier. 

There’s still pain, sleepless nights, and a lot of tears.

So, unless you’ve experienced something, don’t idolize it.

Entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone, despite what the hustle-porn machine wants you to believe.

I’m not writing this to scare you off, by the way.

I’m just saying: if it still feels hard, that’s because it is.

Even for the ones who’ve been doing it for 30 years.

CEO: “We need more qualified leads.”
Same CEO: Changes ICP every quarter based on the last 3 closed won deals.

But the marketer asking to lock ICP and messaging for at least 6 months?

“Let’s stay flexible and see what sticks.”

Tell me how to beat that.

Here’s how it works:

1 — Add a topic you’re interested in (e.g., OKRs)
2 — Describe what you're looking for (in plain language)
3 — Parallel Web Systems finds the most relevant and recent sources
4 — Sources are qualified using one of OpenAI’s older, cheaper models
5 — You get a curated list of sources to use in your content

Building tools on top of high-quality APIs—with flexible, pay-as-you-go pricing instead of overpriced subscriptions—is how modern applications will be built.

It makes work more enjoyable and productive, while keeping costs down—always tied to usage, which is a solid proxy for customer value.

My predictions for 2026:

1) Consolidation of SaaS

Strong M&A year: some survival plays, some opportunistic. ZIRP-era unicorns at unsustainable valuations will merge to create liquidity for investors. AI disruption is part of it, but not all.

2) Consolidation of services

The phrase here is: “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.” Harsh, I know, but also true. I anticipate more agency M&A, further growth at the top end of the market, and many agencies and freelancers at the bottom end slowly being squeezed out.

3) Negative PR

We saw negative PR play out in 2025 in two primary forms: 1) Brands bashing competitors on Reddit to “influence LLMs” and shape buyer decisions, 2) LinkedIn beefs between SaaS founders and employees. Neither is aesthetically pleasing, nor necessary, most of the time. But I expect to see more of it as the SaaS Hunger Games intensify.

4) Influencer acquihires and audience co-owners

5) Work-in-public as a marketing channel

Working in public (aka building in public) is a marketing channel. Most companies still haven’t received the memo. The ones that have are rushing to jump on the work-in-public ship—so expect to see a lot more of it in 2026. More here → https://lnkd.in/dGTXa2fQ

6) Executive ghostwriting and employee advocacy

More CEOs with “thought leader” accounts (mostly outsourced, mostly mediocre). Organic reach keeps tanking → more thought-leader ads. Employee advocacy becomes critical.

7) GTM Engineering and personalization

This year I dove deeper into GTM engineering, which stitches together tools and channels to drive growth—and there’s real value as channels get more volatile. But the “true personalization at scale” promise is mostly BS: most companies lack the in-house chops, so they’ll outsource to providers who already struggle with quality, and in-house teams wouldn’t fare much better. For mature SaaS categories with stagnant pricing and weak offers, GTM engineering won’t be the silver bullet, the tools hype—not bullish long-term.

8) Channel volatility and saturation

In 2026, channel volatility and saturation will be the biggest headache: paid, LinkedIn organic, SEO, cold outbound, webinars—everything’s getting less predictable and delivering worse results. Nothing’s dead if you nail the execution, but consistently positive ROI across channels is about to get brutally hard.

9) SEO/AEO will grow in importance

After two years of panic, marketers remember SEO still works. Content becomes sexy again. SEO + content will fuel AI search.

10) Minuttia - AEO Agency will make a comeback

Minuttia will make a comeback. We’re announcing a few changes before the year ends. Given its history and capabilities, I believe Minuttia is perfectly positioned for the market’s shift toward content-first acquisition strategies (Sorry if this one’s self-promotional.)

Some of my biggest business mistakes came from going brand-first instead of business-first. The logo, the website, the color palette. Get some customers, serve them, and build a couple of case studies. You have a business. Then you can build a brand on top of it.

The future of marketing will center around visibility. We’re moving from attribution-led to influence-led models. The marketers who’ll win are the ones who can influence the customer journey and clearly communicate that impact.

When it comes to LinkedIn growth, “in-house vs. outsourcing” isn’t a simple choice. It depends on...

a) your stage, 
b) your current team, 
c) and how much you can actually invest.

In my experience, the best setup is usually a mix of in-house and agency support.

Now, here’s the important part: If you work with an agency, don’t treat them as a simple execution shop that just follows your instructions.

Instead, they should be both a strategic brain and an execution engine.

You want them to bring strategy, fresh insight from multiple accounts, and playbooks you don’t have in-house.

At the same time, they should handle execution so your team isn’t buried in content calendars, briefs, and reporting.

So the best setup isn’t an “either–or.”
 
It’s using your in-house team for what only they can do—and an agency for what they can do better and faster.

We were on a call with a client a few days ago to review the results of our work.

We had:

- Top 10 rankings for key Google search terms
- Visibility in AI search for several relevant prompts
- Visibility in AI Overviews for many high-intent queries
- Organic impressions trending up
- Organic traffic steadily growing

All good, until our client asked...

“Things have changed. Shouldn’t we rethink what success looks like?”

… Minuttia - AEO Agency’s team didn’t have a good answer.

Things have changed a lot in the last 3 years. (Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022.)

Which means many of the success metrics and signals we relied on no longer serve us.

We need new ways to understand—and win in—this ever-changing, increasingly complex landscape.

Just the other day, I posted:

“The future of marketing will center around visibility. We’re moving from attribution-led to influence-led models. The marketers who’ll win are the ones who can influence the customer journey and clearly communicate that impact.”

But even that isn’t really helpful. 

It points in the right direction—but we still need something more practical.

Something that serves both our clients *and* us.

Because half the battle is equipping our internal champions with the right metrics—and the arguments to back them—so they can secure buy-in, and we can go crush those metrics.

Websites have been crawled for as long as we’ve had search engines, directories, and aggregators.

So the idea that we need to prepare our websites for the “machines” isn’t new.

What’s changing is *how* those machines interact with our sites and the experience they have, depending on the task.

That “task” might be:

- Evaluating us as an option during buying research
- Extracting information on a certain topic
- Signing in to our product and using it
- Learn about our brand
- Buy our product

And that’s just the beginning—these machines will handle increasingly complex tasks as their understanding and capabilities improve.

That’s why we’re seeing the rise of a second user on the web. 

“The web’s second user,” as Parallel Web Systems calls it.

On their site, Parallel even adds a toggle so you can switch between the human and machine experience—and see what each user sees (or should see).

Again, this isn’t just about crawlability—it’s a new paradigm where machines interact with our sites in ways they simply couldn’t before.

The experience we offer them will only get more important.
