Your dream job can be the thing that steals your life. It’s 2007.  I’m 29.. 

At my new desk at the Financial Times, looking over the Thames.
 
This was it.  The role I’d chased for years.
 
Dressed up smart. (Check the frilly shoulders!)
The salary made my dad proud.
 
I’d “made it.”
 
Except:
 
🚩I was eating lunch at my desk every day.  
🚩My boyfriend kept asking when I’d be home. 
🚩I genuinely didn’t know.
 
I had to ask permission to take a holiday.  
To leave before 6pm without someone making a comment. 
 
Then came the travel. Over 50 countries for work.
St Vincent. Barbados. Ghana. Senegal.  
The US more times than I can count.
 
On paper, it looked incredible.
 
BUT:
 
I missed my twins from 0 to 2.  
Not just bedtimes or school plays. Whole weeks.
 
Milestones I’ll never get back.
Boardroom in Accra while they learned to walk.  
Plane to the Caribbean while they said their first words.
 
The travel was sold as a perk.  
Nobody mentioned the cost.
 
The weirdest part? I thought this was normal.
 
Everyone around me was doing the same thing.  
Comparing who stayed latest, took fewest sick days.
 
No hint of “flexibility”.  
No LinkedIn posts about “designing your life”. 
 
It took me years to realise I was building someone else’s dream  while mine sat in a drawer.
 
Fast forward to Charlotte now.
No glam office.  No lovely job title.
Just a business I actually believe in.
 
I took my kids to school this morning.  
I’ll pick them up later.
I don’t ask anyone’s permission to do that.
 
The work is harder in some ways.   
But I wake up wanting to do the work.  
Not because I have to, but because it matters to me.
 
The corporate world taught me how to show up.  
How to deliver under pressure.
 
It also taught me what I don’t want.  
And that’s worth something too. 
 
And here’s the twist: I did love that role.
 
It pushed me to start a small portfolio business on the side.  
My first real taste of building something of my own with a safety net.
 
It taught me that selling isn’t sleazy.  
It’s a service when you’re solving real problems for people who actually need what you’ve got.
 
That foundation?  
It set me up to eventually go full-time on my own terms.
 
Now I help founders.
Not to climb corporate ladders,  
But build businesses that let them live how they want to live.
 
Same skills. Same work ethic.  
But pointed at something that feels like mine.
 
The 29-year-old me thought the Thames view was the prize.
 
Turns out the real prize is not needing permission to live your life.

"Mum, how are you going to make more money and work less?"  

That’s what my 9-year-old asked me last week, mid-dinner.  

I laughed. Then I froze.
 
This is a kid who still watches Bart Simpson and dunks pasta in ketchup   

And yet somehow, he asked the one question I’ve been avoiding.
 
I’ve spent the last year going fast.  
Launching. Scaling. Hiring. Pushing.
 
And it’s working.  
But am I actually okay?
 
His question made me realize:  
I’ve been so focused on 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 that 
I forgot to ask if what I’m building will even allow me to breathe.
 
So I started asking myself:
 
→ Am I building a business that feels like freedom — 
or one I secretly resent?  

→ Do I feel grounded in my success 
or terrified it’ll disappear the second I rest?  

→ Am I chasing goals that matter 
or just the ones that look good online?  

→ Have I mistaken burnout for drive and chaos for momentum?  

→ Am I afraid to slow down because silence makes me feel things I don’t want to confront?  

→ Does my business 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 my life or consume it?  
→ Am I proud of how I’m growing or just relieved I’m not failing?
 
Sometimes the best business advice comes from someone who has no idea they’re giving it.

Difference isn’t a flaw.

Stop copying business models that drain you.

Stop squeezing yourself into shapes that look “marketable” but feel awful.

People who opened doors I couldn’t have opened alone.

Work that pushed me further than I planned to go.
Quiet mornings before the house wakes up.
Moments that shifted how I see things.
My family, the reason I stopped shrinking myself.
Friends who don’t need the curated version of me.

The biggest sign you’re going to grow past where you are?

How you handle delayed gratification.

Most people quit about 90 days before their next level hits.
You’ve been at it a couple of years. 
Revenue’s fine, but plateaued.  

You launch something new, nothing happens for months.
So you shelve it.  

You try a new channel, it’s slow. 
So you run back to comfort.

Meanwhile someone who started after you is already ahead.  
Not because they’re better.  
Because they understand the lag.

Every 7-figure business you admire?  
There’s a long, boring middle section you never saw.

Every “breakout year”?  
Built on systems people set up while nobody was paying attention.

Everyone at the next level?  
They just stayed through the plateau you’re in right now.

Stop sending it.  Use these instead:
 
 
1️⃣ Warm them up in public first
 
Drop a short comment on their latest post:
 
“That point about [topic] really landed with me.  Curious what made you look at it that way?”
 
Then DM:
 
“Loved your post on [topic], especially [specific bit].  Wanted to circle back on our last convo about [project]…”
 
You’re engaging like a human, not lurking in their inbox.
 
 
2️⃣ Ask permission before you help
 
Instead of dumping advice, try:
 
“Would it be useful if I shared what worked for a client in a similar spot?”
 
You’re not forcing help.  You’re offering it and letting them lead.
 
 
3️⃣ Share a relevant win, casually
 
“Quick one: a client in your industry just hit [specific result].  I thought of what you mentioned about [their goal] on our call.”
 
It’s proof without the pitch.  You remind them you exist, without being weird about it.
 
 
4️⃣ The actual chill check-in
 
“Hey, still thinking about getting support around [their challenge],  or did priorities shift?”
 
No pressure. Be honest, direct.
 
 
5️⃣ Send something genuinely useful
 
Article, template, or post that actually maps to their situation:
 
“Saw this and thought of our conversation about [topic].  Thought it might be helpful.”
 
No strings attached.  They feel helped, not hunted.
 
 
6️⃣ Anchor back to 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 timeline
 
“You mentioned Q4 was when you wanted to tackle [goal].  Does that still feel right?”
 
You’re holding them to what 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 said they wanted,  not what 𝘺𝘰𝘶 want to sell.
 
 
7️⃣ Leave the door open 
 
“I’ve got a spot opening next week if now feels like the right time to revisit this.  If not, no stress at all.”
 
Follow-up isn’t about pestering.  It’s about remembering the details and caring about the outcome.
 
Not copy-pasting “just checking in” to 47 people.

Throughout my life, I've heard the same thing:
Too energetic.
Too ambitious.
Too much.

I wasn't always like this.

For years, I was the good girl. 
The one who coloured inside the lines. 
Who followed every rule, checked every box, 
made everyone comfortable.

I was so good at being what others wanted that I forgot what I actually wanted.

Until university nearly expelled me.
Not for partying. Not for bad grades.

For doing things my own way. 
For questioning the curriculum. 
For building a business when I was supposed to be writing essays nobody would read.

They called it "not taking my education seriously."

I called it finally waking up.

That energy? Building a 7-figure business.

Wrong. Premium buyers want to feel chosen, not hunted. Scarcity sells better than availability.

3️⃣ "If I raise my prices, I'll lose all my clients."

You'll lose the wrong ones. The right clients were waiting for you to value yourself properly.

4️⃣ "I need to say yes to every opportunity to build momentum."

Desperation repels high-ticket buyers. Selectivity signals expertise and creates demand.

5️⃣ "Good work speaks for itself."

Silence doesn't sell. 
Your expertise needs a voice, a process
A clear path to transformation.

This isn't about sales tactics.

I used to think reinvention meant starting from scratch.

Burning it all down.

Building something completely new.

That's what the internet tells you, right?

"Quit your job. Follow your passion. Start fresh."

But here's what happened when I reinvented myself:

I kept 80% of what I already knew.

I just applied it differently.

My sales skills? Still use them every day.

My industry knowledge? Still relevant.

My network? More valuable than ever.

The only thing that changed was the context.

Reinvention isn't about becoming someone new.

It's about becoming more of who you already are.

Most people fail at reinvention because they think they need to:

Learn everything from zero.
Abandon their past experience.
Pretend their old skills don't matter.

That's not reinvention. That's cosplay.

Real reinvention looks like this:

You take what you're already good at.
You find a new problem to solve with it.
You adjust your approach, not your identity.

I didn't stop being a Solopreneur when I shifted focus.
I just started selling different things to different people.
The core skills stayed the same.

The application changed.
And that made all the difference.

What am I already great at that I'm not fully using?
Not what trendy skill should I learn.

Not what everyone else is doing.

Most high achievers struggle when they start their own business.

But running my own business? That was the real test.

For years, I thrived on clear expectations.
Study hard, get good grades.
Meet targets, get promoted.
Follow the system, succeed.

The rules were set.
The path was mapped out.
Success felt predictable.

Then I started my own business.

Suddenly:
• No guaranteed salary at the end of the month.
• There was no boss to tell me what to do.
• No clear metrics to follow.

The skills that made me excel before?
They weren't enough anymore.

Being smart wasn't the challenge.
Being disciplined wasn't the issue.

The real test was learning to:
• Handle rejection and keep going.
• Trust my own judgment without validation.
• Sell my expertise when I'd never had to before.

In corporate, I had a team, resources, and established processes.
In business, I had to build everything from scratch.

The hardest part wasn't the long hours or financial uncertainty.
It was the mental shift.

From employee to entrepreneur.
From following to leading.
From certainty to constant adaptation.

Many of the consultants and coaches I work with face this same reality.

They were top performers in their careers.
They have incredible expertise.
But building a business tests different muscles entirely.

It's not about being less capable.
It's about learning new skills:

• How to scale beyond trading time for money.
• How to position your expertise in the market.
• How to attract and convert ideal clients.

The transition isn't easy, but it's worth it.

Because once you learn these new skills, 
You don't just run a business.
You aren't just self employed.

You create the freedom and impact 
You've always wanted.

Where I see this playing out with solopreneurs:

Holding onto legacy offers that no longer reflect where the market's moved. 

Defending strategies that worked 5 years ago stalled. 

Maintaining positioning that feels safe but isn't differentiating anymore.

Building around what you 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 the market wants instead of what it's buying.

Nodding along in mastermind rooms while knowing the advice doesn't fit your model.

Waiting for the next framework to fix what honest assessment would solve.

The kid in the story?

Honest. Clear. 
Unafraid to question what everyone else accepted. 

Willing to name what the room refused to acknowledge. 
Trusted what he saw, not what he was told to see.

That child cut through the performance → and said it plainly.

Your business needs that same clarity.

Stop defending offers that outgrew your expertise.
Strategy built on dreams, not data.
Accepting comfort over truth. 

The most expensive mistake isn't a bad quarter.

It's spending years dressed in clothes that were never there.
Be the kid.

I’m a difficult buyer… some of the time.
 
I’m not rude. I'm not indecisive.
 
It’s because I know every sales trick in the book.  
(Yep - I’ve used most of them myself in the early days)
 
So when someone tries to sell to me, I spot it instantly:
 
Manufactured urgency.  
The pattern-interrupt nonsense.  
“Only 3 spots left.”  
 
I ask the questions people try to avoid.  
I slow the pace when they want to speed it up.  
And if something feels too polished, I pull it apart.
 
A lot of service providers can’t stand buyers like me.
 
But they almost always miss:
 
“Difficult” buyers usually become the best clients.
 
We stay involved. We figure it out with you.
We don’t disappear after paying.
We don’t buy on a whim, we think.
We don’t blame you whenever something goes wrong.
 
So when someone earns my trust?

When they’re honest about what their offer 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 do?
 
I turn into their biggest supporter.
 
I refer without being asked.  
I renew without drama.  
I give feedback that helps them improve.
 
To the coaches and consultants who get irritated with buyers like me:
 
I’m not your problem.  I’m your filter.
 
If you can win me over,
You’ve built something that can stand on its own legs.
 
And to the other “difficult buyers” out there:
 
Don’t soften your questions.  
Don’t apologise for wanting proof.  
Don’t rush because someone wants you to.
 
Your discernment raises the bar for everyone who buys after you.
 
Demand better. The market gets better because of you.

Distinguishing what's real v fake is harder. 
People can’t tell what’s real anymore. 
That’s why your story, your opinions
Your behind-the-scenes moments
Are the best marketing tools.

3. 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴? 
I see more mid-tier offers emerging
For people who aren’t ready 
for $10K coaching yet. 
Low-ticket solves low-value problems. 
Mid-tier creates access without burnout.

4. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴. 
We’ll start treating our feeds like we do sugar or alcohol
limiting the junk, seeking what nourishes. 
Tech companies built on dopamine 
Are going to have to evolve.

So, will AI replace coaches? No. 
But it will replace the ones competing on information.

The winners will be those who: 
→ Build strong personal brands 
→ Create AI-powered systems 
→ Lead with authenticity + trust

The future of coaching isn’t about automation. 
It’s about amplified humanity.

Last week, a consultant nailed their disco call with me.

Sharp questions. Real polarity.

And it proves you can lead a process cleanly.

The follow-up IS the offer.
It shows what working with you looks like.

Fair question.
(And honestly… fair timing.)

If you’d asked me a few years ago?
I would’ve said something like:


"I’m building a coaching business I love but I'm running on fumes. 

Every client launch is a sprint. 
Every week feels like I’m behind. 
I’m scaling, but I can’t breathe. 

My nervous system is shot, my calendar’s full, 
And I haven’t taken a proper break in months. 
I’m selling with integrity… but I'm still stuck in survival mode."

(It looked good on the outside. 
But it didn’t 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 good on the inside.)

For a while, I 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 in the hustle. And a part of me loved it.

When you’re an ambitious woman building from scratch, 
There’s a certain thrill in making magic happen under pressure.

Especially when you’re visionary and momentum-obsessed.

But was I thriving? Not really.
Success came in short bursts. 
Then burnout crept in quietly.

I told myself: 
"𝘖𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘮 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯." 
"𝘖𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘐 𝘩𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘢𝘭, 𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦."

But peace doesn’t come from the next goal. 
It comes from how you build.

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝘆 “𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆.”
I’ve spent years re-architecting everything:

🧠 My business model (no more bro-tactics) 
🏡 My environment (peace is a strategy) 
👯‍♀️ My circle (aligned, energising, values-led) 
⚙️ My systems (AI-powered, human-first) 
🧘‍♀️ My energy (no more burnout disguised as ambition)

Not to be high-energy 24/7. That’s not real. 
But to create a life where energy isn’t something I force 
it’s something I 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵.

Where I don’t need to over-explain my boundaries. 
Where rest is part of the business plan.
Where I’m building for sustainability — not survival.

I’m energetic now because:

⚡️ I’ve built systems that give me space, not stress. 
⚡️ I say 𝘺𝘦𝘴 to spontaneity without checking my Stripe account. 
⚡️ I’m growing a movement, not just a business 
and I actually love showing up for it.

Not performative. Not perfect. 
Powerful  and peaceful by design.
