There’s a very specific moment when you’re building a marketplace that no one really prepares you for.

✅ You’ve got supply lined up.
🚀 Demand is ready.
💰 The value is built.
💻 The flows are tested.
🗣️The conversations are quietly happening on both sides.

And you still can’t hit go yet.

Not because you’re not ready.
But because marketplace launches are orchestrated and intentional.

⏰ You watch timing like a hawk.
🙌🏼 You hold back just enough, to make sure neither side shows up to an empty room.
⚖️ You resist the urge to ‘just launch’ because you know imbalance at the start is expensive.

You’re carrying two stories at once - making sure both sides feel confident, excited and ready.

You’re walking around knowing something big is coming, whilst everyone else just thinks it’s business as usual. 💅

This phase doesn’t get th hype it deserves. It is quiet, but super powerful. 

And when it’s time, it will be so obvious why you waited. ✨

Post inspired by a conversation I recently had with Eddie 🙌🏼

Most marketplaces fail not because of supply and demand, 

But because they don’t create enough value for both sides individually, before they try putting them together. 

Building from zero (several times in my career) teaches you this:

❌ Suppliers aren’t turning up for imaginary demand.

❌ Consumers aren’t turning up for ‘we’re working on it’ supply.

❌ No one wants to be first to a party that might not happen. 

Only when both sides win alone, can they win together. And that’s the part everyone underestimates. ✔️ 

Marketplaces don’t struggle because they can’t balance. They struggle because they skip the 

value 👉🏼 trust 👉🏼 match = network effects

And instead, go straight for scale.

Everyone wants to see data when you’re building a business. 📈

Show me the numbers.
Prove it works.
Back it up with data.

And sure - data matters. ✌🏼

But when you’re building a new business, data is often… late.

Sometimes, you just ✨ know ✨

From conversations.
Patterns.
A gut feeling. 

Some of the best business decisions I’ve made in 15 years of building marketplaces weren’t data led…

They were intuition first, data later. ✅ 

Waiting for a perfect set of numbers means waiting forever.

It’s not about gut feeling OR data…

It’s about knowing when to trust yourself before the numbers catch up. 💅🏼

Bold moves usually start there.
