JMA Wireless's key product ranges of TLS (Antennas, cables and connectors); TEKODAS (indoor/outdoor DAS solutions) ; X-RAN (Software Defined Baseband); CELL HUB (small cell solutions) and IOTA (mmWave solutions) positions us as one of the key vendors in the UK ecosystem.

I'm supporting our Key Account Managers across UK and Europe with a particular slant on the TLS or Transmission Line Systems side of our solutions portfolio; from antennas to connectors via jumpers and cluster kits. Providing consultation, support and training.

Sales Support Engineer

Ooops! Entertainment Services 

In 1993 I engaged with and recruited some similar minded friends and started Ooops! Sound System. By pooling resources we were able to form a credible unit, capable of putting on parties.  As the team expanded, contracted and settled; we created a strong brand of performers, creatives and crew who were able to establish popup nightclub and festival type events in any area or space across the UK  and Europe.
I  soon realised that parties were only a small part of the future and began to invest heavily into equipment and skills.
Using this equipment and skill I turned the brand from pure entertainment in to a fully diverse operation including hire, promotion and education. Hiring equipment and services into local promoters in Reading, London, Liverpool and Bristol; alongside blue chip clients such as Research Machines, the Construction Confederation and the BBC. Our education package became the first of its kind in the UK to offer an NVQ accredited DJ, music production and promotion certificate and was taken by councils from Reading  and Coventry. Event promotion from obtaining and running Reading's first regular all night licenced raves, through to one off special events both indoors and outdoors.
After semi-retiring in 2004 I continue to run and host occasional reunion events; alongside a smaller, corporate-focused DJ and Compere services for fetes, fireworks, school discos and private parties including charity work. Recent notable events include the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and King's Coronation parties.
In 2014 I rebranded as Ooops! Entertainment Services.

Throughout 2018/19 we conducted a 25th anniversary tour, with guest appearances at established and new nights, festivals and events.  For 2023, the Ooops! 30 Tour is underway

A new role, carved out for me by the Commercial team; this was a hybrid role, encompassing Business Development (I took forward three major opportunities, delivering two of the three); Sales Support and Product Management.
During the 13 months of the role, I was successful in  closing the largest residential in-building cellular deal for the business, supporting on major tenders (leading where requested) including hospitals and stadia; and account managing one of our sales partners.
Realising that tenders were managed informally, I set about creating, collating, and delivering a bid library for sales teams to enable self-serving answers to approx 70% of any ITT/RFP/RFQ standard questions.  This involved establishing who was responsible for the answers, and driving standardised responses that can be used by all. A significant project, I completed this just prior to leaving.
Sales Support and Product Management aspects of the role included:
Understanding the Freshwave product portfolio and the value proposition it offers to customers, partners and beyond.
Providing specialist technical input into bid proposals, projects, and technical documents, and identifying opportunities to support existing customers.
Collaboration with customers, suppliers, consultants and sales teams to understand their requirements; develop and recommend cost effective solutions which meet or exceed expectations.
Worked with the engineering team and externally with customer technical teams to propose and help clients build solutions whilst encouraging standardisation and repeatable solutions to drive scale
Supported sales in the preparation and delivery of customised presentations and demos to customers.
Supported the full product management lifecycle of the connectivity products.
Consulted on proof of concepts for customer solutions.
Became the product specialist in connectivity with a passion for networks.
Updated proposal documentation.
Developed and delivered new starter induction tours.

Continuing from my previous role, StrattoOpencell is now Freshwave.
We’re the UK’s leading network service provider making digital infrastructure simple. Faster, for less and in the right places. We bring together mobile operators, local and central government and real estate providers to work together in new ways. Our managed sites include some of the biggest, most challenging wireless environments in the UK, including Docklands along with several central London Boroughs. With 6000+ mast site locations, 2000+ buildings connected and 200+ outdoor networks supported, we ensure everyone has network. Backed by DigitalBridge, we also combine technical telecoms and commercial real estate know-how to create long-term market impact. Acquired by DigitalBridge between August 2018 and June 2019, the Freshwave Group companies were: StrattoOpencell, iWireless Solutions and Spyder Facilities. Adding WiFi provision and management with the 2021 acquisition of AirAngel, we are now a Total Connectivity Partner.

I will be concentrating on the provision of mobile phone coverage indoors, outdoors, temporarily or permanently into local authorities, real estate investors, developers, principle contractors, specialist subcontractors, M&E contractors, consultants, operators and end users.  Across all verticals from residential, to stadia; and from single buildings to campus type environments.

StrattoOpencell

I joined Opencell (as it was at the time)  to drive forward customer-funded mobile coverage deployments.  Opencell deploys industry leading small cell technology via both stand alone femtocells and/or distributed small cell architecture.

But it doesn't stop there.  Licence exempt repeaters, DAS, outdoor small cells and mini-macros are also valuable tools in the armoury.  In fact, any mobile coverage indoors, outdoors, temporary or permanent can be deployed wherever you need it!

My job is to not only introduce new and support existing customers, educating the marketplace along the way; it is also to ensure that StrattoOpencell's portfolio is relevant, up to date, cutting edge and competitively placed in the industry.

Following acquisition by the global infrastructure company Digital Colony (itself a JV between Digital Bridge and Colony Capital) we are now poised to drive the four pillars of a connected, digital society: Indoor mobile coverage (via Small Cells, DAS and repeaters), outdoor mobile coverage (via Small Cells and Neutral Host towers), Fibre connectivity and Data Centres.

As part of the acquistion, in early 2019 Opencell merged with Stratto, a leading Coverage as a Service provider.  Together, we form an unbeatable collection of coverage solutions and commercial models to suit everyone.  From single room through to campus-wide coverage across all operators and all technologies.

In January 2020, Digital Colony UK became The Freshwave Group, bringing its recent acquisitions of StrattoOpencell, iWireless Solutions and Spyder Sites together to form an infrastructure investment company able to deliver mobile coverage indoors outdoors and via masts through small cells, DAS, and rooftop, greenfield and street furniture towers.

Sales & Business Development 

NET Coverage Solutions Ltd

Having established credible workstreams for NET, I took the promotion to Director of Business Development. 
I created a retail, wholesale and installation division; specialising in a line of Ofcom approved cellular repeaters ranging from domestic/SoHo through in-vehicle and on to effective middleprise solutions. 
I was also involved with the technical and commercial aspects of further new technologies to enable rapid deployment of coverage solutions as a managed service. These included Cloud RAN utilising the Centralised Service Node for SpiderCloud Wireless products, and virtual RAN  products from other vendors.

I also oversaw the redevelopment of two new websites and an e-commerce web shop, alongside a major rebrand to NET CS

Business Development Director

Following the successful tender to supply in-building cellular coverage to East Village, NET engaged me to drive forward the sales and marketing of self-funded, neutral host solutions in the UK.

Establishing the NET brand beyond the four UK MNOs was my main aim since joining NET. By exhibiting at the Small Cells World Summit in London in 2015, NET became the first UK Systems Integrator to exhibit, and established NET as having renowned thought leadership in the "Neutral Host V2.0" cellular as a service space.
Following this up with a sponsorship and speaker slot at The Caterer Summit in Autumn 2015, NET became an established consultant to the Hotel, Hospitality, Enterprise and Residential Development & Redevelopment  sectors in the UK.  2016 saw NET return to the Small Cells World Summit (with a competitor also exhibiting...imitation being the sincerest form of flattery!).  2017 saw NET return to SCWS as well as exhibiting at Hotel Tech Live and Channel Live. 

Alongside tackling new business opportunities, I worked to expand the product portfolio at our disposal; in order to offer customers the best technical, practical and commercial solution to suit their needs - whether this be with traditional and new DAS vendors, Small Cell Manufacturers, or component part suppliers.  By working with the vendors AND the Operators,  I created a portfolio of authorised (as well as approved) suppliers that we could offer to clients, including bringing the JMA Teko DAS product to Tottenham Hotspur's ground breaking new stadium at White Hart Lane

I also engaged with the MNOs regularly to push and expand BAU activities across all types of cellular deployment: from femtocells to macro cells. This comes from direct engagement as well as taking the coordinating role during RFI/RFP submissions. 

In  Q3 2017 NET started to offer products as well as services for sale to operators,  other integrators and end customers alike.

Business Development Manager

Vodafone

New Tour Guide role, to host enterprise customers round the latest and most technologically advanced Network Operations Centre in Europe - at Vodafone UK's Headquarters.
Essentially this role was as "Product Manager" for the network. After all, the intangible asset of a mobile operator is its network. By bringing the network to life for existing and proposed customers I was able to assist account teams in retention and acquisition.
But I also hosted a variety of non customer tours - ranging from the incoming bishop of Reading to the Turkish Minister for Transportation and Communication; from groups of local school children to the then Home Secretary  (and current Prime Minister); and from all new starters to the CEO's family.
Also responsible for the management of visits to the Customer Experience Centre and assisting in hosted sessions within; demonstrating One Net product range and facilitation of thought leadership sessions on mobility, security and Better Ways of Working.

Experience Manager (NOC)

Responsible for the delivery of multiple indoor and outdoor coverage projects ranging from repeaters through picocells and DAS to macrocell sites for Vodafone corporate,  points of interest,  event and VIP customers. 
Established myself as a can do project manager with a go to reputation for problem solving and non standard solutions. 
Able to cross pollinate with multiple sections within the company,  enabling non process rapid deployments to be facilitated on time and on budget. Led the deployment of 30 plus sites for LBG and was held in high regard for doing so. 
Mentored new starters and drafted new process guidelines.

Project manager

Cornerstone (CTIL)

When Cornerstone phase two was initiated (before the establishment of the joint venture that was CTIL, and is now Cornerstone again)  all delivery staff were integrated into centralised teams to deliver all projects.  However,  despite best intentions it was impractical to deliver single operator corporate solutions from a joint environment. Thus,  during this period I managed the rollout of Vodafone corporate,  points of interest, event and VIP coverage whilst still playing the Cornerstone game.  After several months it was determined that the macro model of partner organisations should be followed in special projects.  I therefore established training workshops and handover periods during which I trained mentored and created the partner project manager roles with the key suppliers before being able to move on.

Working on the O2 M25 (initially North and subsequently South) project, this role was responsible for the end to end project management of 3G rollout.  Anything from MHA swap outs, to full new site roof top or greenfield deployment, including the tendering and winning of work package bundles.
Also responsible for H&S control, landlord liaison, supplier engagement, REC instruction, TX management and delivery; and financial reporting

Hopping the fence from contractor to employee, this role broadened my microcell experience from just building mounted to street furniture too.
Council liaison (particularly with regard to the shared lamppost structures) was  integral to the role, as well as supplier engagement and end to end project management. I also achieved NRSWA accreditation.
Towards the end of my tenure in this role, I was introduced to macro site design and build too.
