I started as a Full Stack Developer, and worked alone and in teams, as a leader and otherwise, with large groups and startups. I am now a serial entrepreneur, working with a variety of businesses. I have made several successful exits after having spent more than a few years running businesses, finding different startups, and launching several successful products. I founded Devsinc in 2008. The millennials of today inspire me a lot. I want to provide seed money to young entrepreneurs and teams whose dream and commitment I can share. Always learning and seeking is how I visualize my future.

I began my journey as a Full full-stack developer and evolved into an entrepreneur leading innovation at scale. In 2008, I founded Devsinc, now recognized as one of Pakistan’s fastest-growing technology companies, delivering world-class engineering and digital transformation services across the US, MENA, and APAC.

With multiple successful exits and over a decade in tech leadership, I focus on building high-performing teams, driving large-scale impact, and advancing technology that defines the future. I also invest in and mentor emerging founders, helping them grow ideas into globally competitive ventures.

I still remember the face of the senior developer who walked into my Lahore office last year, résumé in hand, asking if his 10 years of experience still mattered. "Mr. Usman," he said, "I built systems that run dozens of Technology and retail organizations, but today a 22 year old with three months of AI training just got promoted over me."

That moment haunts me, because it represents the greatest challenge facing every technology leader today. The World Economic Forum estimates that nearly six in ten workers will require training before 2030, with 22% of jobs globally changing due to technological advancements. Yet 80% of organizations say upskilling is the most effective way to reduce employee skills gaps, but only 28% are planning to invest in upskilling programs over the next two to three years.

This disconnect isn't just a statistic; it's a crisis of vision. Gartner projects that generative AI will require 80% of the engineering workforce to upskill through 2027, while 60% of employees report insufficient training for core job skills. We're essentially asking people to swim while refusing to teach them.

But here's what I've learned building Devsinc across three continents: the solution isn't more training programs. It's about creating what Deloitte calls a "whole work approach to development" that integrates skill building with practical, contextual experience. When you redesign roles and workflows to reduce reliance on missing skills while providing intensive, hands-on management support, you don't just close gaps; you create cultures of continuous learning.

That senior developer? He's now leading an AI integration team. Not because we gave him a course, but because we paired him with younger engineers in a true knowledge exchange. His decades of system thinking combined with their AI fluency created something neither could achieve alone.

46% of leaders identify skill gaps as the most significant barrier to AI adoption. But the real barrier is our failure to see that experience and innovation aren't competitors. They're collaborators waiting to be unleashed.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been traveling across the US, speaking at universities and meeting some of the brightest young minds. And every time I step into a new room, the energy hits differently. It is honest, curious, and full of possibility.

Last week in Chicago, I had a very close group meetup with students and young thinkers late at night. Everyone had already been through a long day, but they still showed up fully present, asking real questions, challenging ideas, and adding their own perspectives. We spoke about entrepreneurship, the evolving future they will soon step into, and the opportunities waiting for those who dare to build. 

For me the biggest learning was personal. No matter how tired or overwhelmed you feel, stay alive to new thinking. Stay awake to the world. Because the right conversation at the right moment can change your direction.

Young minds do not just listen. They refresh your own vision. And that is what keeps me going.

Me and some half-a-dozen senior techies gathered on a dinner discussing “Where the puck is going?” The conversation was very interesting, a hypothetical situation was simulated where the basis was whether to hire 50 more Python developers or invest in upskilling their current team. The debate lasted two hours. Then someone asked a question that changed everything: "What if we're solving the wrong problem?"

Here's what keeps me up at night as I traverse between boardrooms in San Francisco and development floors in Lahore. Australian businesses alone are missing out on skills valued at approximately $2 billion because they're cutting learning and development budgets. We're hemorrhaging value while chasing the illusion that the next hire will save us.

I've spent fifteen years in this industry: from writing my first lines of code to leading venture investments across continents. And I've witnessed a pattern that terrifies me. While 80 percent of tech leaders say upskilling is the most effective way to reduce skills gaps, only 28 percent actually plan to invest in it over the next three years. We know the cure, yet we're choosing the disease.

The mathematics are brutal. The World Economic Forum projects 59 out of every 100 workers will need training by 2030. Gartner warns that 80 percent of engineering teams must upskill through 2027 just to keep pace with generative AI. Meanwhile, 92 percent of companies are pouring money into AI investments, yet only one percent have achieved mature deployment.

The gap isn't technological. It's philosophical. We're treating people like replaceable parts instead of renewable resources. Deloitte found that 66 percent of new hires arrive unprepared, lacking not skills, but experience—the ability to navigate ambiguity, make judgment calls, lead through chaos.

Last Tuesday, one of our portfolio companies tried something radical. Instead of hiring externally, they invested that budget into immersive learning experiences for existing teams. Six months later, their innovation velocity doubled. Not because people learned new frameworks, but because they learned to think differently.

The future belongs to organizations brave enough to bet on human potential over résumé credentials. Because in this AI-accelerated world, your greatest competitive advantage isn't the technology you buy. It's the wisdom you build into the people who wield it.

The $2 billion question isn't whether you can afford to invest in your people. It's whether you can afford not to.

The real tragedy of life isn’t having less. The real tragedy (and a grave one) is believing that what we’ve achieved isn’t enough.

Because eventually, everything moves on. The titles, the bonuses, the recognition, every single thing. 

Someone will get promoted faster.
Someone will raise a bigger round.
Someone’s startup will go viral.
Someone else will land the job you wanted.
And someone will lose everything they built over decades.

We’re all moving at different speeds, but we compare as if we’re in the same race. And that comparison quietly eats our ability to learn, to build patiently, to stay grounded.

I have come to realize that the real loss in life isn’t being behind. It’s spending years trying to match someone else’s timeline instead of building your own.

The pursuit of “more” is endless: more followers, more visibility, more validation, but rarely more fulfilment.

At some point, we have to define what enough means for ourselves.
Because no promotion or exit will ever feel satisfying if our sense of progress depends on others.

In the end, what really matters isn’t how much we achieved. It’s whether we stayed true to who we were while doing the work of our life and how much we lived and loved while being on that journey!

Freelancing isn’t the issue, it’s how most people do it.

You spend years chasing quick gigs on Upwork and Fiverr, thinking you’re building freedom, but all you’re really building is repetition. The same kind of clients, the same kind of projects, the same kind of limits.

You stop learning, stop growing, and start surviving. Real growth begins when you step out of the gig loop and work with people who challenge you, not just pay you. That’s how you break the cycle of earning less and start building real value.

Freedom isn’t doing random projects. It’s becoming too good to be replaceable.

Here's what nobody tells you about building software companies in 2025: the gap between winners and losers isn't closing. It's accelerating.

I've lived in code, venture capital, and the messy reality of building technology businesses from Lahore to Silicon Valley. I've watched brilliant CTOs fail with unlimited budgets while scrappy teams in emerging markets rewrite industries. The difference? Understanding that we're not in an adoption race anymore. We're in a cognitive revolution.

The data is unforgiving: productivity growth in AI-exposed industries has nearly quadrupled since 2022, rising from 7% to 27%. Meanwhile, industries least exposed saw their productivity decline from 10% to 9%. This isn't incremental advantage. This is existential divergence.

While 79% of companies claim they're using AI agents, only 35% report broad deployment. The rest? Theatre. Sixty-eight percent admit that fewer than half their employees actually interact with these agents daily. We're witnessing the birth of a new corporate species: cognitive companies that don't just use AI as employees, they've rewired their entire nervous system around it.

Here's the counterintuitive truth: wages in AI-exposed jobs are rising with a 43% premium for workers with AI skills. Even in the most automatable roles, job numbers and wages are growing. AI isn't replacing humans. It's creating a new aristocracy of augmented workers who command premium compensation because they've mastered human-machine collaboration.

Among companies deploying AI agents, 66% report increased productivity, 57% see cost savings, and 55% achieve faster decision-making. But here's the kicker: 73% believe their AI agent strategy will deliver significant competitive advantage within 12 months. Everyone's betting on the same future. Only the bold will claim it.

PwC's analysis shows AI can reduce time-to-market by 50% and lower costs by 30% in industries like automotive and aerospace. If responsibly deployed, AI could expand global GDP by nearly 15% by 2035. These aren't projections. They're battle lines being drawn between companies that transform and those that fade.

Despite the promise, only one-third of CEOs trust AI enough to embed it into key processes. Therein lies the opportunity for those willing to lead through uncertainty rather than wait for certainty that never comes.

The cognitive company isn't coming. It's here. The question isn't whether your organization will evolve. It's whether you'll lead that evolution or become a case study in disruption.

How long will you keep asking which field instead of asking “what can I build”? If you’re busy chasing gold instead of learning how to use a shovel, you’re setting yourself up to fail.

People often ask which degree has the best future: AI, Data Science, or FinTech. But it’s not about running after trends, it’s about mastering the tools that create real value.

The CTO's hand shook slightly as he set down his coffee. We were in Palo Alto, and he'd just told me his developers were using AI in ways he couldn't track, couldn't measure, couldn't control. "I'm terrified," he said. Not of the technology. Of being left behind by his own team.

His honesty reminded me of my own journey. Fifteen years ago, I was that developer in Lahore, writing code line by line, convinced that mastery meant doing everything myself. Today, I lead teams across continents, and I've learned that true mastery is knowing when to let go: when to let AI handle the repetitive while humans focus on the transformative.

Here's what my Frankfurt colleague didn't realize: his instincts were right. While C-suite executives estimate only 4% of employees use generative AI for significant portions of their work, the actual number is 13%. His developers weren't ahead of him; they were already living in a future he hadn't yet acknowledged.

The data tells a fascinating story. McKinsey found that 72% of organizations have adopted generative AI in at least one function, yet only 1% believe they've reached AI maturity. We're all fumbling forward together, learning a new language of collaboration where humans and machines don't just coexist but co-create.

I see this transformation daily. Last Tuesday, one of our engineers in Lahore solved a problem in two hours that would have taken two weeks last year. Not because AI wrote the code, but because she directed it, questioned it, refined it. She became the conductor; AI became her orchestra.

Gartner projects that by 2026, 40% of enterprise applications will feature task-specific AI agents, exploding from under 5% today. By 2028, 15% of daily work decisions will happen autonomously through agentic AI. But here's what keeps me awake at night and excited for tomorrow: this shift isn't about replacement, it's about augmentation, enabling more natural collaboration between human intelligence and machine capability.

The real question facing every technology leader isn't if AI transforms your organization. It's whether you're building a culture where your people become "Bloomers": the 39% who see AI as a collaborative partner rather than a threat.

That CTO in Frankfurt? He's now leading the transformation. Because he learned what I've discovered across boardrooms from Silicon Valley to Singapore: the future belongs to those who orchestrate intelligence, not those who hoard it.

If you look closely, every conversation online feels scripted.
And it’s not that we haven’t tried to change that; some things are just easier said than done.

We only want to hear what fits our own ideas.
Sometimes I feel we’ve mistaken access for wisdom.
Just because we can say something doesn’t mean we should.
