It’s officially that time of year when people decorate their homes…and then immediately try to undecorate your reputation.

Listen- some folks wait all year for the holidays just so they can bring a casserole and a comment you didn’t ask for.

Girl, settle DOWN? I can barely settle on a Netflix show. Relax.

And let’s be honest…

Some of these people couldn’t keep a houseplant alive, but they swear they can diagnose your entire life. 😂

Every family has a Cousin Carol who knows everybody’s business except her own. Bless her heart - and her fact-checking skills. Weakest in the family.

This year, my approach is simple:

If you’re gonna gossip, at least make it good. Add a plot twist. Give me a superpower. Don’t waste my time with the Dollar Store version.

• Look at how they show up - not just their headline

• Don’t trust a title like “Chairman of the Board” or “CEO” without proof
• Websites, “shareholders,” and big claims can be completely fake
• Trust your instincts if it feels rushed, secretive, or “too good to be true”

And suddenly… your heart goes quiet. Your intuition steps forward and says: “I told you.”

The person who swore they cared, who convinced you that you were safe…proves that you were never the priority - just the strategy.

What hits hardest isn’t the lie itself - it’s the months, maybe years, you defended them against your own better judgment.

Pull up a chair for a moment. This is a heavier conversation, but an important one.

I don’t remember growing up with the kind of fear that feels so present today. After seeing yet another headline that stopped me in my tracks, it felt impossible not to speak up.

Now, it’s everywhere.

We’re witnessing tragedies unfold all over the world - acts of hate, violence, war, and loss that don’t stay “over there.” They follow us home through our phones, into our conversations, into the quiet moments where we worry about the people we love.

I catch myself scanning rooms. Noticing exits. Checking in on friends and family when they’re out living their lives - going to school, concerts, festivals, just being human.

That shouldn’t be normal.

We talk about thoughts and prayers - and those matter. But they can’t be where the conversation ends. The violence has to stop. Fear cannot keep being the backdrop to everyday life.

So I’m asking - genuinely:

What do you think the solution is?

How do we create safer, more connected, more compassionate communities - locally and globally? What conversations aren’t we having yet? What actions actually move the needle?

Because staying silent hasn’t worked. And accepting this as “just the way things are” isn’t an option.

But here’s the truth: Your gut knew. Long before your heart accepted the reality.

Betrayal doesn’t start with cruelty. It starts with charm.

They paint a future so beautiful you stop looking at the present. They mirror your dreams, echo your goals, and tell you everything you’ve ever wanted to hear - not because they feel it…

but because they want something. Read that again! 

This is where they hook you:
✨ “I’ve never met anyone like you.”
✨ “You’re the one I’ve been waiting for.”
✨ “We’re building something incredible together.”
✨ “Trust me - I would never hurt you.”

They write a fairytale - and cast themselves as the hero.

But here’s the twist: Real love doesn’t require a script. Manipulation does.

They make sure you feel chosen.
Special.
Safe.
Seen.

So when the cracks show up later, you question yourself -  not them.

Because if someone sold you a perfect story…you’re going to fight to keep believing it. You’re going to stay in the burning house convincing yourself the smoke is “just a little steam.”

This is how betrayal hides: in the promises that never had a future.

But this week is about clarity.

Those “beautiful words” weren’t love - they were leverage.
