Acquired: CocoAI - Increase Rev +15% w/ WhatsApp. Still looking for a $10-$100m Brand 🛒 .

Shopify’s ($198B) Stock fell $20/share after earnings. Let’s dig into the Internet’s tea leaves on why.

The High level:
1) Margins + Earnings miss despite Rev growth.
2) Valuation (P/E Ratio) is high.
3) Macro Risks.


The Bull Case:
- GMV + Rev ripping heading into Q4 (Best quarter)
- AI + Ads + Ent: Set up for long term wins.
- Buy the dip. (If you’re optimistic it’s an always an opp to buy).


The Bear Case:
- Earnings & Margins lower than expected
- OPEX growth, Esp in loan loss.
- 110x+ P/E ratio (multiple) is rich.


What I think:
- If you want a 90x+ P/E Ratio every metric has to be on fire.
- Earnings weren’t.

There’s a lot to be excited about Shopify long term.
It’s incredibly exciting we’re already back to COVID highs.
But Q3 wasn’t the barn burner month needed to push this to $200/share.

I love & really hate this offer from Stitch Fix ($545m).
1) Love: Removes concern, $XX off, + no fee.
2) Hate: TELL ME how much it costs.

If they really wanted to turn this zombie biz around.

Make the offer clear.
- $20 off of $50? (Insane offer)
- $20 off of $200. (Meh)

Customers shouldn’t have to ask questions about what they’re buying.

70% of eCom carts are abandoned.
- 10-15% recovery rate = survival stakes.
- 30% = real success. 

What does 30% look like?

Perfectly aligned Recovery strategy across the board:

Onsite:
- Clear explanation of fees (taxes, shipping, customs etc)
- Clear delivery timeline
- Secure Checkout
- Payment Options
- Social proof reinforcing key value props.


Coordinate Offsite Message:
- Email
- SMS/WhatsApp
- Direct Mail
- Ads

All hitting the key reason why people buy from you.
Removing all remaining objections.
With a compelling offer.

It’s not easy.
Don’t build it all in a day.
But if you want to be the best.

Nailing all of these channels is what’s required.
