I have since launched 4 companies, worked across 10 markets, raised over $3m in venture capital and managed $500m in projects and revenue.

🏁 Co-founded a digital agency in 2015 (with my spouse of 14 years), server over 150 brands worldwide, operating across 2 geographies, generating $2.5mn+ GMV with just $10K invested and ZERO external capital.

🧭 Been a senior digital transformation executive at one of the world’s largest and oldest public-sector organizations.

🌍 Moved to the GCC in 2012 as one of the first global mobility candidates with a leading telecom operator.

🤹🏼‍♂️ Remained an active startup community member and mentor with world-leading accelerators, such as Techstars, Brinc, and Startupbootcamp

🌱 Built an agritech startup in Thar (Pakistan's Rajasthan) between '06 - '08, raising $US 500K seed capital from Acumen.

👶🏼 Become a first time dad at 40, raising a child while building a startup.

And my passion to solve for food goes back to when I spent 2 years flipping burgers in my US college cafeteria.

My brain hurts from all the things it holds. 🙇🏻

Depression is a vulture, sitting and waiting for the moment to strike.

Life's spice mix has gotten an interesting blend over the last few decades, from ADHD (formerly ADD) to AI therapy, yet the rise in cases of suicide and untreated depression is NOT reducing.

Some of us argue that it's easier to "just" whine and lean on the side of depression because it wins sympathy, prescription meds, or just fits the Drama Llama persona bucket.

And I used to agree with some of that. But upon reflection, I was masking my own depressive state with some overtly positive mindset BS to steer through each day.

It's hard enough to wake up with a kick in your step every day like the 💩 from yesterday never happened. But the truth creeping back up is usually much simpler, harsher even, as the day unfolds. 

In all the years of building and operating as a founder, I've had the privilege of hearing from hundreds of others about the underbelly of their reality. Not much different than mine, despite how big their raise was or how fast their ARR grew.

Those of us trying to seek but failing to find help often go through a rollercoaster of emotions. On a bad day, you'll think "today is the day I get help," and you try, but between expensive treatments, convoluted insurance policies, easy-to-get prescription drugs, and a sense that Murphy's on the hunt for tripping you up (ref: Murphy's Law), you trip up.

Then you give up because of everything above and the inevitable frustration that follows.

And suddenly enough time passes, something changes, you're on the upswing, so maybe it was all for the best ... until the next episode (that's a Dr. Dre ref). 

Or maybe we'll resort back to our usual fixes, like EDM to cut the white noise, or touching passing street poles to calm our OCD, or microdosing to manage eruptions.

But in the end, nothing is really part of the playbook; it's just a hack or jugaar, as we say in Urdu. Patching our emotions and senses throughout the day - week - year, until we're too numb, deep, or exhausted to care or try more.

Mental health is spoken about, celebrated with a special day/week, and even chased by venture capital via the many founders trying to build a solution.

Meanwhile, over 14 million humans have considered suicide, and depression continues to rise, with middle-aged men at the highest risk.

If the issue is so common and many of us struggle with some form of depression, possibly even more so for founders, then why is help so hard to get? Why isn't it as easy as setting up a business?

Is it taboo and cultural stigmas, particularly in regional cultures (narrowed for relevance, not prejudice)?

Is it that it will affect our prospects to succeed in society by appearing stable and focused, when we're far from it?
