This is what you can see in this diagram.

Open Banking is when account and transaction data can be securely used outside the bank. Themes like payments initiation, account aggregation, onboarding, and cashflow scoring have emerged. Still, everything revolves around banking products.

But when Open Finance is integrated, the scope expands dramatically:
insurance, pensions, investments, loans, and payroll data. This means it's possible to build solutions that don't just show balances, but help manage money, security, plans, and risks - holistically.

And now comes the real fun - Open Economy.

When financial data is supplemented with:
- health #data
- lifestyle data
- #IoT, travel
- e-commerce
- social media, government data, utilities

And then finance ceases to be a separate industry.
It becomes part of life.

Not "banking within an app."

And here's the main shift:
We're moving away from financial products

Over the last six months, something interesting has happened in the stablecoin world: We stopped discussing crypto, we started discussing monetary infrastructure. And honestly, when I compiled 87 reports and studies into one document, I finally saw the whole picture.

What has become obvious:

1. Stablecoins are maturing faster than markets can adapt.
Over the past six months, reports from banks, regulators, funds, consulting firms, and analysts have all been saying the same thing: this is no longer a "trading thing," but a new settlement layer for the post-SWIFT world.

2. Geography is changing.
The EU, the US, Asia all have different motivations, but the trend is the same: whoever controls stable digital money → controls the flows.

3. The role of banks is changing.
Banks are no longer arguing "for or against." They choose a model:
- issue their own tokens,
- work through trust-issuers,
- or integrate third-party networks.

4. RWAs + stablecoins = new financial architecture.
What used to be described in reports as "pilot projects" is now becoming the norm.

That's why I decided to compile everything in one file, it helps us see not just individual trends, but the underlying logic of change: where regulators are heading, what banks are doing, which models are winning, and where the new standard for digital money is taking shape.

How Does ACH Payment Actually Work? A Simple Look at a Not-So-Simple System

ACH remains one of the quietest, yet most important, engines of the American economy. Payroll, supplier payments, and subscriptions all flow through a network that most people don't even notice.

The image below shows a very clear diagram of how an ACH payment works, for example, if a company is paying an employee's salary:

0. The employee authorizes the employer to debit/credit funds via ACH.
1. The company initiates the payment, usually through a payroll platform (e.g., Gusto).
2. The payment processor generates ACH files and sends them to the sending bank (ODFI) by 7 PM on the first day.
3. The #ODFI forwards these files to the ACH operator (FedACH or EPN).
4. Clearing occurs overnight, between 7 PM and 12:01 AM, after which the payment is sent to the recipient bank (RDFI).
5. The next morning, approximately 6 AM, Day 2 - the funds are reflected in the recipient's account.

In other words, ACH is essentially a batched overnight system that has ensured the stability and predictability of mass payments for many years.

What does the future hold for ACH?

Despite its outdated architecture, ACH still holds immense importance, and here's where the market is heading:

Instant ACH?
Banks are increasingly integrating ACH processes with FedNow and RTP to compete with instant payment rails.

More automation and fewer files
ACH files (#SFTP, batched) are a relic of a bygone era. In the coming years, we will see a shift toward API access and real-time statuses.

A Shift to A2A Payments
With the rise of open banking in the #US (yes, slowly, but it's moving!), ACH may see a resurgence as the primary platform for account-to-account payments.

Competition from Stablecoins
Corporate payments and #C2B payments are already actively migrating to #USDC/ #USDT in some sectors.
If clear regulation is established, we will see an accelerated transition from batched ACH to #tokenized payments.

ACH is a great example of how a system from the 1970s still works effectively in 2025... but pressure from above (FedNow) and below (stablecoins) is forcing the ecosystem to change.

Stablecoins of 2025: We're no longer discussing "crypto or banks."
We're discussing whose digital dollars we hold.

Take a look at the top stablecoins of 2025.
This list isn't just about tokens, it's about different models of money,
each answering the same question in its own way:
What is a digital dollar, and who's responsible for it?

- #USDT ($143B+) - the most liquid, the most widely used, but the least bankable. Works where a fast dollar is needed, not a formal one.

- #USDC ($58B) - has become a "corporate standard." ETFs, tokenization, banking partnerships, public reporting, and getting closer to financial infrastructure.

- #USDS, #USDe, #DAI - no longer just stablecoins.
This is programmable liquidity: RWA, hedging positions, derivative stability.
In other words, stability is achieved not through 1:1 leverage, but through model engineering.

- #USD1, #FDUSD, #PYUSD - the new wave of “regulated trust issuers.”
Here, stablecoins are closer to bank deposits than cryptocurrencies.

- #USDX (algorithmic) - a reminder that the market is still experimenting.

The most interesting conclusion:
- In 2020, stablecoins = a trading tool.
- In 2025, stablecoins = infrastructure for #payments, tokenisation, settlements, #DeFi, #RWAs, #ETFs, and cross-border transactions.

In other words, stablecoins are no longer a technology, or even a product, but a way to issue, store, and transfer obligations (#IOUs).

And now the main question for the future:
In 2027-2030, we might stop talking about “which stablecoin is better.”
We’ll be asking: Whose digital dollar (or #eUR, #eAED, #eSGD) am I holding, a bank’s, a network’s, a government’s, or a code’s?

The latest European Banks & Stablecoins Report clearly demonstrates how quickly Europe is changing its attitude toward digital money.

Here's what caught my eye:

-  Banks have shifted their focus.
They no longer view stablecoins as "#crypto experiments." They are already part of the settlement infrastructure, and the industry is beginning to perceive them as a new layer of money, not just another asset.

- Monetization is still developing.
While no one has yet found the ideal revenue model, banks are experimenting: programmable #payments, #FX layers on top of stablecoins, on-chain treasury services, all of this is already in the works.

- Consortia are becoming the norm.
Everyone understands that it's difficult for a single bank to build scale. Therefore, joint issuance and shared rails models are emerging. But the question arises: where is the real profit in this architecture?

- The European dilemma. #Europe must protect the sovereignty of the digital euro, otherwise, dollar-denominated stablecoins will control the flows. And this is no longer just theory, it's market reality.

What the future looks like (my perspective):

If this trend continues, in a few years we'll see three things:

1. Banks will become infrastructure operators, not just balance sheet holders.
Stablecoin rails will be running under the hood of many financial services, unnoticed, but everywhere.

2. European banks will begin competing not with crypto projects, but with #American issuers of the #digitaldollar. The battle will be not over technology, but over cash flows and regulatory oversight.

3. And a new market will emerge, on-chain treasury services.
Where liquidity, settlements, reporting, and ownership rights live not in six different systems, but in a single system.

European Banks & Stablecoins Report

Stablecoins are no longer just "digital dollars", and this is precisely what's starting to worry regulators.

The European Systemic Risk Board report on stablecoins and crypto assets, and the most interesting thing isn't the numbers, but how the role of stablecoins has changed.

Today, their combined market capitalisation is around $300 billion, but the issue isn't their size. What's important is that they no longer exist within the crypto market.

Stablecoins are gradually connecting banking platforms, payment systems, brokers, exchanges, custody providers, and decentralised protocols. Essentially, they are becoming a patchwork between what previously operated under different rules.

And this is precisely what worries the ESRB.

- The risks are no longer technical, but systemic.
When a stablecoin is issued in one country, stored in another, used in a third, and traded in a fourth, it's no longer about blockchain; it's about geopolitics, regulation, and financial stability.

- Multi-function groups (MFGs) are emerging.
That is, companies that offer everything at once: issuance, storage, exchange, and payments. This is convenient for business, but dangerous for system oversight, too many functions in one hand.

- Interesting fact:
Although stablecoins already account for 7.5% of the market, their actual use in payments remains surprisingly low. This means they are ready to become a payment instrument, but they still serve primarily as an infrastructure asset.

My personal conclusion?

Regulators previously tried to control #crypto as a "category of instruments." But now they understand that stablecoins are a category of infrastructure. Moreover, one that could become global, parallel to #banking.

And this is precisely where the most interesting dialogue will take place in the next two years, not about #technology, but about jurisdictions, liability, and what "money" means in the digital economy.

“The Stablecoin Business” by Joshua Wong, and frankly, I haven't seen such a comprehensive overview of the industry in a long time. Over the past couple of years, stablecoins have quietly evolved from a tool for traders to a fully-fledged financial layer, upon which real products and business models are beginning to be built.

A few points that particularly struck me:

1. Stablecoin types aren't just a classification, but a sign of market maturity.
Fiat models like USDC/USDT continue to dominate, but alongside them, a generation of "yield" and crypto-collateralized options has emerged. And what's interesting is that they don't compete, but rather occupy their own niches.

2. The ecosystem stack has begun to resemble a proper financial infrastructure. From issuers to networks, from infrastructure to consumer applications – everything is gradually merging into a single working mechanism. Some companies are already trying to control multiple layers of this stack at once to capture more value internally.

3. Trends Shaping the Future
- Liquidity between stablecoins is beginning to play the same role as the #FX market in traditional finance.
- Political issues surrounding privacy are becoming a serious factor and may influence regulation more than economic arguments.
- Agentic commerce appears to be a new stage of development, where stablecoins become the "fuel" for autonomous #AI agents.

After reading, it becomes clear: we are approaching a point where stablecoins will cease to be simply a "crypto technology" and will become a fundamental component of the economy, especially in countries where digital payments are actively replacing cash.

This is the central question Patricia Meredith raises in her work "Digital Money and Payments Infrastructure." And I liked how she connects digital money not with technology, but with power, trust, and infrastructure.

- A Historical Perspective That Changes Everything
Meredith reminds us that the debate over who should create money didn't begin with Bitcoin. It was started by Benjamin Franklin back in the 18th century. Today, we're simply returning to the same question, only now money lives in tokens, not on paper.

- Geopolitics Enters the Game
#China is building a digital yuan. The #US is promoting stablecoins. And these are no longer just currencies, they are instruments of influence and competition between financial systems.

- #Canada is a good example of what's happening in many countries now.
The country understands that the infrastructure of money is no longer just #bank #transactions and Swift. It's networks, wallets, real-time, programmable settlements. And if the financial system doesn't update, it will simply lose touch with the future economy.

- The main conclusion that resonates with me:
Digital #money is not a new asset. It's a new way to manage obligations, trust, and the #economy. And if the state isn't involved in designing this architecture, someone else will do it for them (#BigTech, networks, #stablecoins).

The question Meredith essentially leaves the reader with:
Will the money of the future be state-owned, network-based, or hybrid?

Open Banking is sometimes perceived as something purely technical, APIs, account access, and regulation. But after the "Open Banking and Beyond" report, I caught myself thinking: this is no longer a regulatory initiative. It's a model shift.

Previously, banks kept customers within their own "garden": their wallet, their cards, their loans, their transaction history. Now, for the first time, customers become owners of their data and decide for themselves who to share it with: a bank, a fintech, an e-commerce company, an insurance company, or an investment app.

This is where everything changes.

What struck me as important from the report:

- Open Banking is no longer just about "account access."
It's about the openness of the logic of money - #payments, #credit, personalized recommendations, automated budgets, investments, insurance - all in a single stream, even if the services are from different companies.

#PSD3 and the transition to Open Finance aren't a new wave of regulation. This is a new market where the competition isn't between #banks and #fintechs, but between who can use customer data for real benefit - transparently, consistently, and without surprises.

The main value now isn't a "fast payment," but a smart #payment. Not just a transfer, it's made on time, in the right currency, at the best rate, with the right analytics, and automatically.

And an important point: Open Banking is almost always explained through # #APIs. But the real story isn't about technology.

The real story is that banks are ceasing to be a place,
and becoming a service layer in people's lives.

Understanding Stablecoins: Key Insights from the IMF's 2025 Paper

The International Monetary Fund's latest report on stablecoins clearly demonstrates how quickly this market is maturing and the issues regulators and banks are now facing.

What stood out:

- What are stablecoins in real life?
The IMF effectively notes that they are no longer a "crypto-add-on," but a tool that maintains value and serves as a settlement bridge between a volatile market and traditional systems.

- Scale is growing faster than expected.
Stablecoin issuance has nearly doubled in a couple of years, reaching around $300 billion, although their share of the total crypto market capitalization is still small.

- Pros and cons come together.
Yes, stablecoins speed up settlements and expand access to digital financial services. But the IMF also clearly points out the risks: pressure on macro-financial stability, technological failures, and the lack of reserve transparency.

- Regulation is still being developed.
Currently, the approaches of different countries differ greatly: the #EU is pursuing #MiCA, while the #US is pursuing its own regulations and licensing. The IMF emphasizes that without a common regulatory framework, the market will be fragmented.

- Global coordination is essential.
Stablecoins are cross-border by nature.
Without a coordinated position among regulators, it will be difficult to control currency risks and prevent unwanted dollarization through private tokens.

And what does this mean for the future?

Essentially, the IMF is hinting: stablecoins are becoming so systemic that the question is no longer whether to allow or prohibit them, but how to integrate them into the financial architecture without disrupting market balance.

If this trend continues, we will see:
- stablecoins as a standard settlement rail in #banks,
- unification of reserve requirements,
- a transition from a "#crypto-approach" to a full-fledged monetary policy around tokenized money.

Now the question is, "What role will we play in this system?"

Paxos's paper, "The Banker's Blueprint for Stablecoins." What I liked is that it doesn't just explain stablecoins, but shows how the global monetary infrastructure itself is changing.

Here's the main point I took away from the report:
Stablecoin isn't a product. It's a payment and settlement infrastructure,
which is starting to operate faster, more transparently, and cheaper than traditional Rails.

And banks are starting to understand this.

A few figures that explain everything:

- Over $150 billion in #US Treasury bonds is already held in stablecoin reserves. That is, a significant portion of the government's money is now "packaged" in private tokens.

- Banks can issue their own stablecoins, and the most interesting thing is:
The trust-company-issued model is already regulated and appears even more reliable than a simple tokenized deposit. This is truly worth considering.

- Settlement speed isn't the main bonus.
The main bonus is programmability: conditional payments, automatic payments, escrow, cash pooling, collateral, all in real time.

And here's what's essentially changing:
Previously, bank → payment → clearing → correspondent → account
Now:
Bank → token, and it itself is an account, #payment, settlement, and collateral.

My feeling:
Stablecoins aren't replacing banks. They're taking over the old infrastructure,
and forcing #banks to operate at the level of intelligent financial services, not just transaction processing.

The white paper "Asset Tokenization in Capital Markets" by Elliot Hentov and Vladimir Gorshkov, CFA is not just about technology, it's about how the capital infrastructure itself is changing.

What I remember:

- Tokenization is not an attempt to "digitize" paper. It's a transition from accounts to programmable assets that can move, split, serve as collateral, participate in #DeFi or traditional markets, without intermediaries, manual confirmations, or T+2.

- Not all assets start equally:
- Bonds are first in line (clear structure, large volume, institutional demand).
- Real estate and private markets are interesting, but they come down to legal and operational issues.
- Commodities and equity instruments are more likely to be hybrid models.

- The investor is finally no longer an "observer." Tokenization will make accessible asset classes that were previously reserved for the big players - especially private equity, infrastructure funds, and even debt pools.

And perhaps most interestingly, when #AI and tokenized assets converge, a portfolio is no longer a set of instruments, but a dynamic flow of assets that can independently change its structure and risk distribution.

Tokenization is not a #fintech trend. It is, perhaps, a new format for capital infrastructure.

This paper ("The New Financial Order: How RWAs and Stablecoins Are Reshaping Financial Infrastructure") explains it well: Stablecoins are no longer just tokens that mirror the dollar, they are becoming infrastructure. They are evolving into the settlement layer for tokenized assets, institutional finance, and even machine-to-machine payments.

What stood out to me:

- Stablecoins are turning into the circulatory system of the new economy, programmable, 24/7, borderless, and able to settle tokenized real-estate, bonds, equity, and private credit in seconds, not days.

- Real-World Assets (RWA) are moving on-chain faster than expected, and big names like BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and KKR are already doing it. Tokenized #US Treasuries, private credit, and even environmental assets are becoming part of everyday financial infrastructure.

- This isn’t just “crypto” - it’s the next architecture of finance. Banks, asset managers, and regulators are entering the space not to experiment, but to build.

The most powerful idea from the paper:
- RWA = the new assets of the digital #economy
- Stablecoins = the money that moves them

That pairing might define the next 10 years of #finance.

The Tokenization Finance Working Group report effectively demonstrates how rapidly the topic of tokenization is evolving, no longer an experiment, but a tool that can truly transform financial and government infrastructure.

Here are the highlights:

1. Efficiency is finally becoming tangible
Tokenization is no longer just a nice theory.
Fast payments, fewer manual processes, transparency at every step, these are not "the future," but real projects that are already being piloted in capital markets.

2. Real-world examples are growing in scope
The report shows that established industries, such as real estate, logistics, and healthcare, are already experimenting with issuing digital assets and utilizing tokenization to optimize their processes. And, unlike in 2020-2022, these are not startups, but serious companies and consortiums.

3. Regulation is beginning to unify
With the launch of MiCA and the DLT Pilot Regime, Europe is finally creating clearer rules of the game. This is critical: without transparent regulation, no institution will work with tokenized instruments to their full potential.

4. For Europe, this is a chance to become a leader
The authors of the report state bluntly: tokenization could become the very area where Europe can outpace its competitors and set standards for the global digital asset market.

5. But problems still exist
And the report describes them frankly:
- fragmented regulations,
- lack of common terminology,
- technological incompatibility between platforms.
For now, this is holding back scaling.

Conclusion
The report clearly demonstrates: tokenization has become a strategic topic not only for banks, but also for government agencies, regulators, and large corporate players. If this energy can be properly synced, we will see a new digital infrastructure operating on top of DLT.

Asia Stablecoin Conference 2025: The Region Is No Longer Observing, It's Building Its Own System

On September 25, the first Asia Stablecoin Conference took place in #Seoul. More than 700 participants - banks, startups, regulators, and payment companies - discussed not just "is it necessary," but how exactly Asia will build its own stablecoin infrastructure.

What I particularly liked about the report:

- We're moving away from talking about "#crypto", we're building payment networks. The focus is shifting to infrastructure: real bank connectivity, custodians, #APIs, off-ramps, and settlements. Less hype, more plumbing.

- Asian currencies are beginning to come to life in digital form.
They discussed not only #USDC/ #USDT, but also local models: #KRW1, #eIDR, #eTHB, and #ePHP. These are no longer just "stablecoins," but an instrument of currency sovereignty.

- Regulators are no longer just observing, they're participating.
#Singapore, #Korea, #Indonesia, and #Japan are actively testing, licensing, and creating sandbox models. The dialogue between banks and technology is becoming constructive.

- Interest from institutions has grown sharply.
Not trading, but settlements, liquidity, cross-border #payments, tokenized deposits, and corporate wallets, that's the real market demand.

- The most important thing is user convenience.
For the first time, it was honestly stated: stability, redeemability, custody, and #UX are more important than the blockchain on which it all runs.

It seems #Asia isn't catching up, it's building its own version of financial infrastructure.

The Future of Payments: Where Crypto Meets Tokenization

The policy paper “Crypto, Tokenization, and the Future of Payments” by Cecchetti, S, and Kermit L. Schoenholtz, and it’s one of those rare reads that actually separates the signal from the noise in the crypto space.

The paper makes a sharp observation: while blockchain and tokenization have completely changed how we think about payments, they haven’t yet changed how we make them.

Most real-world crypto payments today still rely on stablecoins pegged to fiat. That tells you something important: the bridge between crypto innovation and traditional finance is still being built, and trust remains the hardest currency.

What I found interesting is the comparison between stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and money market funds. The authors argue that banks and regulated institutions might actually be better positioned to deliver safe, tokenized forms of money than crypto-native projects. It’s not a “crypto vs. banks” story anymore, it’s a convergence story.

With new regulations like the #GENIUSAct, the landscape is shifting fast. Stablecoins might finally move from being speculative tools to regulated payment instruments, embedded in the broader financial system.

The takeaway?
Tokenization isn’t about replacing #banks, it’s about rewriting how value moves, settles, and connects across networks.
