My daughter was recommended to take foundation Math class next year and needed parental approval. It was a no-brainer. I signed immediately.

For me, strong basics is the key to true success.

The next day, her teacher called to “make sure I understood” what I had signed off on.

But instead of explaining why foundation was the right path, or how they were going to support her, she kept trying to "reassure" me that my daughter still had a chance to move to Standard if she scored above 75.

I had zero concerns but she was speaking like she was worried about me being angry or defensive.

Knowing that, I assured her, “It’s good... no point putting her in Standard class to widen the gap and have her suffer from the lack of understanding.” I could feel her relief after that.

It reminds me of my leadership lessons:

1. We project our fears onto others and sabotage the conversation.

She wasn’t nervous because of me.
She was nervous because of her past experiences with upset parents.

And instead of leading the conversation with clarity and confidence, she led it with fear and over-explanation.

This happens in sales all the time:

We expect objections…because of our own past rejections, not because the prospect actually has them.

When we project insecurity, prospect loses confidence in a deal that was already done.

People respond more to our energy, clarity and confidence than our words.

2. Foundation is a necessity, not a stupidity.

Too many parents treat foundation as if their child is “slow” or “not good enough.”

That is THEIR insecurity, not the child’s reality.

My daughter learns better through stories and play, not standard teaching structures. How is that “slow”?

A strong foundation is not a step back... it’s the step that prevents a house of card that looks good but can collapse anytime.

Same with leadership and business:

If your foundation is weak, it’s not a matter of if things fall apart, it’s when.
We have all seen the startups with big headlines and bigger funding went from being media darlings... to boom, gone overnight.
But the leaders who worked on fundamentals quietly, consistently outlast everyone who chased fame over substance.

3. Whatever we bury leaks into how we lead and communicate.

The teacher’s anxiety came from unprocessed fear of being questioned, blamed, and made wrong.

Anything we push under the carpet without addressing... insecurity, guilt, shame, fear shows up in our leadership and communication.

My eldest complained that her sister wouldn’t lend her a book.

I said to her, “Do you want to know a secret? The more you need something, the less power you have.”

She frowned but she listened.

“If you want something, learn how to ask… and at the same time, learn how to let go of how you think it should be.”

So she tried again. Her sister replied, “No, not today.” But this time, instead of whining or demanding, she simply, shrugged, and said, “Okay.” And magically… her sister shifted from “Not today” to: “Maybe later.”

Minutes later, the sister wanted to play with one of her toys. My eldest, triggered by previous rejection, said “No”, a little tit-for-tat. 😆 But she caught herself, looked at me and changed her attitude and said: “I’ll let you play with my toy… you let me read your book.”

Win-win.
And her sister agreed.

This episode reminded of one of the most brutal truths about life, leadership, sales, and relationships:

High need = low power.
Low need = high power.

Whether we admit it or not, humans run on power dynamics.

My second daughter said no because it made her feel powerful. That’s the psychology of control. Saying no gives her a temporary sense of superiority.

My eldest wanted the book too much. When she thought she felt rejected, she slipped into neediness, frustration, pressure, demanding, entitlement, and emotional volatility.

But here’s what most people never realise:

If you want to achieve more with less, it’s not about effort. It’s about shifting your emotional state from not feeling like you can have it to true power:

→ Your confidence
→ Your ability to let go of your fixation
→ Your willingness to walk away
→ Your ability to stay grounded even when you really need something
→ Your capacity to be flexible and open to alternatives

This is true in:

→ business
→ negotiation
→ leadership
→ dating
→ family dynamics
→ and every form of influence

The moment my eldest let go of what she thought she needed, she took back her power and the moment she stopped giving power away, her sister has no power over her. That’s when her sister reconsidered.

Because power doesn’t disappear. It only exists when one person thought they needed it from someone.

It’s not just how you ask. It’s the emotional state you ask from.

If you want more power, influence, and yeses in life:

→ Ask clearly
→ Hold your ground with power without neediness
→ Be the one willing to let go
→ Stay open, not fixated

Life is negotiation and the biggest leverage you have is your ability to regulate your emotions when things don't go your way.

Pivoting is hard... but staying the same is even harder.

Many high-performing leaders hit a point where the strategy that brought them success… becomes the very thing that limits their next level.

And nothing illustrates this better than the famous baker story:

A masterful baker sells the best bread in town at a low price.
He works brutally long hours, barely makes ends meet, and believes this is “just how business is.” One day, an old merchant tells him to double his prices. He panics:

“What if I lose customers?”
“What if no one buys?”
“What if I go broke?”

But he tries it anyway.

He loses half his customers… yet makes the same income while working half the time.

With more time and energy, he perfects his craft even further. His bread improves. He attracts a new category of customers who value quality. Eventually, he doubles his prices again.

This is the power of a strategic pivot.

Here’s the truth:

👉 Many of us are that baker. We worked hard, long hours, low margins, high effort. It worked... until it didn’t and we ended up having no time and energy to truly enjoy the fruit of our labour.

Because what got us here… won’t get us there.

Especially not with:

❌ burnout
❌ resentment
❌ declining joy
❌ diminishing returns

Elite leaders hit this crossroads more often than they admit.

The questions that stop us:

What if customers think it’s too expensive?
What if I disappoint them?
What if I upset them?
What if I lose people?
What if I fail?

Every “what if” is valid. But here's the part that is the hardest to face:

If nothing changes, nothing changes.

Stay the same → same customers → same exhaustion → same ceiling.
Shift upward → fewer customers → higher quality → higher returns → more life.

My biggest lessons from the baker story and from my own pivots:

✨ You can’t double your returns with the same identity. Something in you has to shift first.

✨ Letting go of what worked is painful but necessary. Your old strategy becomes your new limitation.

✨ Cheap customers leave. That’s a blessing. They cost more energy than they are worth. They also have you doubt yourself.

✨ You lose some... but you gain more. Only if you’re willing to outgrow the version of you who needed everyone to agree or avoid conflicts.

✨ The freedom comes the moment you commit. That’s how you know you are clear. When there's clarity, you know your direction and no shiny objects can distract you.

For me, pivoting isn’t optional. The world is changing too fast. I want to grow without burning out, and that means shedding what no longer fits even if it once served my purpose.

So I’m pivoting. Boldly. Clearly. Even if it scares me a little. Because staying the same scares me more.

Which part of the baker story do you relate to?

I thought I was disadvantaged because I had nothing.
But having nothing became my biggest strength.

No degree.
No family wealth.
No safety net.

At 16, I went to my school’s dinner and dance in my school T-shirt because I didn’t have decent clothes.
At 22, I had $0.10 in my pocket and chose to walk home while waiting for my first paycheck.
I entered financial services with zero backup plan purely on commission with zero based salary... just hunger and possibility.

At 30, I invested $500,000 into a passion project.
It collapsed.
A lawsuit wiped out $10 million, and everything I put in was gone.

At 31, I took over the project, pumped in even more to try to save the company, desperate and failed because I had no idea what I was doing other than I didn't want to give up because it was my dream project.
I started again from negative ground zero to continue the misison,
Asked for help.
Got ridiculed.
Kept going anyway.

Then came two abusive relationships... the kind that exaggerate my already beatened up confidence, identity, and sense of worth.
Threats.
Criticism.
Emotional abusive with nasty harrassment.

By then, I made two non-negotiables:

In relationships: I would rather be alone than be with someone I’m not aligned with.
In business: I will only do work that makes my heart sing while make money doing it. I refuse to sell my soul for “security.”

At 36, my mother and my female role model died a week apart.
While dying in LA, my role model still sent her regards when she heard about my mother’s passing.
That broke me open... not down. Her heart never closed despite facing her own death.

The same year my now-husband and I connected.
We now have three beautiful kids and have built our businesses while traveling the world for years.

And in between all of that?
Failed partnerships.
Failed teams.
Failed projects.
Each one forcing me to confront my blind spots and grow into the leader I needed to become.

Here’s the part that I learned:

Having nothing multiple times my biggest privilege.
It stripped away my illusions, ego and feeling of entitlement.
It gave me more courage because I had nowhere to fall.

So many people fear losing everything.
But when you’ve lost everything multiple times, you stop fearing loss... and that's when real transformation begins.

Every obstacle is my stepping stone to grow exponentially.
Every failure showed me what I didn’t know.
Every collapse forced me to rise higher than before.

So yes... the thing I used to think was my greatest disadvantage…became the foundation of my strength.

“I’m doing all the right things, getting what I want… but why don’t I feel any different?”

This is one of the most common and quietly painful experiences among successful leaders.

You do everything “right.”
You follow the rules.
You hit the goals.
People admire you, praise you, even envy you…

Yet privately, you don’t feel how you thought you would feel and in front of people, you feel like you need to keep up to the image which is tiring.

For many, it goes one of two ways:

1. A temporary high when others admire what you’ve achieved and tell you how great you are.
2. A quiet sense of incongruence or imposter syndrome because your outer success doesn’t match your inner experience.

Here’s what most people never talk about:

There’s nothing wrong with you.
In fact… how could you feel different?

We have been trained for performance, not for fulfillment; for output, not for wholeness; for survival, not for aliveness.

Performance, output and survival, that's the mold we are trained to fit in.

When your life is built on pressure, rules, fear, or conformity, something gets trained out of you:
You start doubting your brilliance.
You shrink parts of yourself to fit the mold.
You succeed externally while going emotionally numb internally and sometimes questioning your existence.

Then midlife hits.
Or success hits.
And suddenly the formula that worked no longer works.

I had my “quarter life crisis” at 28.
I reached the point where making money for the sake of making money felt empty.
And I didn’t know what a meaningful life looked like until I met role models who helped me see my own version.

But here’s the real challenge that got in the way during the process:
Not the external world.
The internal saboteur the self-doubt, inner critic, fear, guilt, the feeling of not being enough. Is this even possible for me?

Facing that was painful at the beginning because who wants to face all that?
But the more I embrace that as part of the journey to true freedom and power, it became my fast track to the freedom most people only dream about.

Because when I stopped clinging on to what no longer serves me…
When I stopped waiting for permission…
When I stopped letting fear and doubt dictate my choices…

I realize something powerful:

When I know I have nothing to lose, that’s when I gain the most... and I don’t have to sacrifice one area of life to succeed in another.

Before I hit 30 year old, I had "everything": Awards, annual free travel, five-figure months, a car, a condo, a “successful” career ready for a secured and comfortable life.

For someone who grew up shy, insecure, introverted, and in a chaotic home… I had built the “safe and respectable life” I never thought was possible.

But somehow I knew something was missing as I looked into my future. Is this how I want my life to look like when I am 50 year old?

Not because anything was wrong but because something just didn't feel right.

I could see my future if I stayed on the same path… and it scared me more than starting over.

That questioning led me to a 3-Day reset I didn’t know I needed.

I thought I was attending to build more confidence and go beyond my glass ceiling. Instead, it opened my eyes to:

✨ What was silently blocking my full potential
✨ Why success felt heavy instead of liberating
✨ Where I felt drained despite achievement
✨ What I truly wanted not what I was conditioned to want
✨ The identity I was living… versus who I could become

“I’m successful… but my kid won’t talk to me.”

We hear this more often than not from successful leaders.

It’s easy to believe we are doing the right thing... building a career, growing a business, securing our family’s future. But what happens when you finally reach the success you worked so hard for… and the child you love and work so hard for barely looks at you unless they want something from you?

How would you feel?

Most leaders describe the same things:

“It feels like it was all for nothing.”

And in the worst cases, the cost becomes irreversible.

A private equity partner climbed to the top of his industry... only to lose his two teenage sons to suicide within a year. It's not about them being good or bad parents.
These are parents who thought they were doing the right thing but were never given the tools.

Because our system does not teach us how to be whole, emotionally healthy, integrated, human beings. It teaches us to separate our work life and home life. To sacrifice one to succeed in the other. To hold everything together on the outside while falling apart inside.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

What if nothing is “too late”… and all you need is a new way of seeing, leading, and connecting... one bridge at a time?

You deserve better.
Your children deserve better.
And your success should not come at the cost of your relationships.

Nobody prepares you for this part of leadership:

How to tell the difference between a C Player (the blamer) and an A Player (the responsible one)?

If you can recognize them and learn to lead them differently, you’ll achieve more with less… without burning out.

Here’s the truth:

When someone blames you for their problem, no amount of logic will get them to stop.
Because blamers don’t want solutions they want power and blame is emotional manipulation disguised as feedback.

I have been both.
The blamer and the one who used logic to defend myself.
Neither got me what I wanted.

When I blamed, I gave my power away... waiting for someone else to fix my problem.
When I defended with logic, I fought the wrong fight because blamers aren’t interested in logic, only in shaming you until you cave.

Both end in frustration. Nobody wins.

The fast track out?

👉 Validate their feelings but don’t take the blame.

For example:

When your team member blames you for unclear communication, ask yourself 
Was it truly unclear, or are they avoiding ownership?

If you were unclear:

“Thanks for pointing that out I didn’t realize it wasn’t clear. Let’s clarify to make your job easier.”

If you were clear:

“I’m sorry it wasn’t clear to you. Let’s go through it again so you can get the job done easily.”

A responsible team member (A Player) will ask clarifying questions at the very first opportunity.
A blamer (C Player) will deflect and play tit-for-tat by finding fault in you so you can’t hold them accountable.

What do you do when you lead people who deflect accountability?

If we had a choice, we would all prefer only positives in our life. But life doesn’t evolve that way.

These last few weeks, there’s been more negative flow than positive.
More friction than ease.
More chaos than clarity.

A familiar feeling... one I grew up with.

While it hasn’t been the easiest time… it has been an opportunity for me to upgrade, reinvent and get to the next level.

When things are flowing, we often miss the deeper messages.
But when things stop flowing?

When the universe feels like it’s pushing back?

Most people think it’s a test.

I believe it’s a signal: Your intention… your growth… you have reached the edge of your current limit. The disruption is not a punishment, it is guiding you toward expansion and upgrade if you face it responsibly without blame, excuse or justification.

But this is the moment where most people quit because when things don’t go the way we planned, it triggers:

• Self-doubt
• Something must be wrong
• Blame others or ourselves
• The inner critic
• Fear of uncertainty
• The feeling that the world is against you
• It's not meant to be and I am being greedy

Our mind wants growth to be linear. In reality, growth has never been a straight line for anyone. The biggest transformation I had came from the worst time of my life.

Especially not for leaders who are aiming for extraordinary.

Life throws curveballs sometimes gently, sometimes violently and we are forced to decide:

Do I break?
Do I freeze?
Do I retreat?
Or do I listen and rise?

I’ve had many curveballs in my journey. And even when I felt dejected, misunderstood, or completely knocked out…

One thing kept me going: I refuse to give up on myself and my dream. Because if I don’t give up on me, no one else can.

So if you’re building something meaningful, impactful and extraordinary, and the path has been rough, unsteady, or unexpectedly chaotic…

I see you.
I get you.
I feel you.

Stay true to your heart and spirit.
When your foundation is real, you cannot be shaken.

The higher you aim, the louder the noise, the bigger the resistance, and the more people will try to pull you down. Yes, it is cold high up.

That's why most people stay small.

But they only succeed if you allow them to.

Keep going. Your next level is emerging through the chaos.

Most people think peace of mind and security comes from having “extra money.”
It’s the biggest myth I’ve seen in 30 years of working with investors and leaders.

I hear this all the time:

“When I have surplus, then I can make this decision. If I lose it, it won’t hurt as much.”

Wrong.
That mindset keeps people stuck.

Rich or poor has nothing to do with how much money you have.
It’s how you think about money and what you value from your purchase.

Poor-thinking pays for immediate relief, minimum effort, and short-term comfort.
Rich-thinking pays to save time, reduce risk, improve quality, grow and protect their future.

And here’s the truth most people don’t want to believe:

More money does not give you peace of mind.
It magnifies who you already are.

I once worked with a billionaire client who worried constantly about one thing:
Late payments from their customers.

This is how they chased their receivables:

“Where’s my payment?”
“When are you going to pay?”
“You’re late again.”

They shamed people into paying, felt taken advantage of, and woke up every day expecting the worst.

A billionaire… losing sleep over invoices?

Not because they couldn’t afford the losses.

But because money doesn’t erase insecurity. It exposes it.

People assume wealthy people have unlimited budgets and no stress.
But even our own Prime Minister Lawrence Wong once said the hardest part of running the country as a Finance Minister was:

“Money not enough.”

Not because Singapore is poor.
But because budgeting is not about being cheap.
It’s about allocating resources wisely so the whole system works.

That’s what we helped successful clients do... build a system that reduced emotional stress, not just financial risk.

Despite growing up in a family and culture where boys were favored, I never let my gender become an excuse to pursue my dream in career and business.

If I questioned why I had to do housework while my brother didn’t, I got slapped.

Here’s what I was taught overtly and subtly or through observation about being a girl:

We are less valuable than boys.
Our needs matter less.
Don’t make trouble.
Be obedient.
Sacrifice is a virtue.
Shame was what we were born with.
Once you marry, you belong to your husband’s family.
And if you do anything for yourself… you’re selfish.

It shaped me into two extremes:

1. The “good girl.”
Invisible. Nice. Don’t make trouble. People-pleasing. Over-explaining. Over-apologise. Sacrificing that led to resentment. Living for approval. Being guilt-tripped. 

2. The rebel.
Refusing to stay small.
Proving my worth.
Ambitious. Risk-taking. Feisty.
Never satisfied with mediocrity.
Highly critical of myself.

And even with all that, I didn’t fully see the disadvantage of being a woman in business until recently.

Another female founder shared how she was ignored for a full year… until she created a fake male colleague. Only then did the deal move forward.

It had me reflect on all the different interactions I had over the years.

My default of “being nice” has gotten me bullied in business situations.
My identity as the pleaser made me over-explain, over-assure, and over-carry.
Some people used that against me emotionally and strategically.

I know over-explaining had one coming across as lack of confident but most importantly, the part that was not obvious to me was that is how we try to prove we are enough.

This is extremely common among successful women. Most of us do it unconsciously and are frustrated with being overlooked or manipulated and bullied into saying yes when we actually want to say no.

We oscillate between:

– over-explaining
– or becoming curt and “bitchy”

I’ve done both. Neither is optimum.

Here’s what actually works:

I don’t have to over-explain.
I don’t have to be bitchy.
I can be powerful, clear, confident and completely myself.
I don’t need to let anyone’s opinion define me.

No, I’m not perfect and I also no longer carry the illusion that perfection earns approval. Success doesn’t demand perfection. It demands truth.

The truth is:
The more successful we are as women, the harder we are on ourselves. The more critical we are towards ourselves.

As I close this year, I’m choosing a different path, one with stronger boundaries, deeper self-trust, and higher standards for how I allow myself to be treated.

What got you here was discipline. What will get you there is clarity.

You don't need discipline. My coach said to me.

That's not because I am a discipline person. It's because he knows that when discipline is needed to create consistency, it would require more force than necessary.

How often do we beat ourselves up for not doing what we know we should?
And then say, “I just need to be more disciplined.”

If we are able to discipline ourselves, we would have already done it.

Here's what I learned the hard way:

You can be disciplined on the wrong thing and still not get results.

Years ago, I was desperate to close a deal.
I made 50 calls a day.
Sometimes 100.
I worked hard, I pushed myself, I told myself as long as I made enough call, someone would say yes. But the harder I pushed, the worse I felt.

The problem?

My energy was desperate (I psyhed myself mentally to not come across as desperate and needy).
My confidence dropped.
No matter how “disciplined” I was, it came through in my tone, my words, my presence.

My coach helped me see what was really happening:
I wasn’t taking action from clarity and power.. I was reacting.
My focus wasn’t on the vision. It was on avoiding and worried about failing.

My lesson:

If I focus on not failing, discipline becomes a struggle.
For the effort to feel effortless, I needed to know where I was heading (vision).

It’s like trying to climb Mount Everest while only worrying about surviving before I reach the base camp.
Energy from survival mindset comes from fear of losing or dying. Hence, the feeling of needing to be saved or rescue. This is repulsive and unattractive regardless of how great your offer is.

Maybe, just maybe…
You don’t need more discipline.
You need a vision that’s so alive it pulls you forward instead of forcing you to push.

I have been underestimated most of my life and that used to trigger my self-doubt.
Now, it fuels me.

I used to be the quiet one.
The one who did my work, stayed in my lane, and only interested in my own results.

When I wanted something, I didn’t talk about it...I just went for it.
But instead of respect, I often got overlooked.

I resented it. I wondered why people couldn’t see me.
But I also refused to play politics or over-promote myself... it just didn’t feel like me.

For years, I gave people the benefit of the doubt. When I was wrong, I apologized. When they were wrong, they flipped it and made me question myself.

That was one of my toughest leadership lessons:
When you don’t own your power, someone else will use it against you.

20 years ago, I was inspired to work towards being a conscious leader. A leader who is aware of how their action and behavior impact others positively or negatively. To do that, it requires me to keep my heart open.

It has been tough as I have my fair share of feeling ashamed of not delivering what I said I would and being hurt by all kinds of accusation while working through my flaws and faults.

I also learned that being a conscious leader doesn’t mean being endlessly patient.
It means keeping your heart open while knowing when to draw the line.

Because every time I let someone take advantage of me or made me question myself while doing my best to work with them, I was quietly communicating to myself that it was okay to be bullied and I’d attract more of it while my productivity gets impacted.

Despite being underestimated, I have always been fiesty. When I am clear what I am going for, I don't give up easily.
As I evolved, I don’t fight to prove myself.
I fight to regain my power, clarity and sanity.

And yes... when people realize they can’t manipulate me anymore, they’ll say I’m heartless.
That’s ok.
Their comfort is not my responsibility.

My biggest lesson:
You can be kind without being a pushover.
You can be open-hearted and set boundaries.
When a bully can't get away with what they can get from you (many times pretending to be a victim), they will paint you as a big villain.

You can’t motivate someone who isn’t motivated.

Yesterday, my daughter said to me: “I don’t know why I keep forgetting to do my stretching.”

A few months back, she was inspired by a YouTube contortionist and made a big plan:

“I’m going to stretch every day so I can do a split.”

For the first week, she was excited, inspired, energised.

Then the excitement faded.

I reminded her gently. Encouraged her. Do it with her when I could.
But consistency was hard... even though she still liked the idea of it.

Yesterday, when she asked me why she kept forgetting, I asked her:

“What motivates you to stretch? On a scale of 1–10, how important is this goal to you?”

She said: “4 or 5. It’s good if it happens… but not that important.”

And that answered everything.

Low importance → low motivation.
Low motivation → low follow-through.

Not because she’s lazy. But because the goal wasn’t meaningful enough to her.

This reminded me of a conversation we had with a group of leaders recently:

If you want a high-performance team so you can work less and achieve more,
understand what motivates is non-negotiable.

One core trait separates high performers from average performers:

Clear motivation.

When someone has a clear “why,” they don’t need external motivation.
They don’t need hand-holding.
They don’t need you to chase them.

They just need direction and they run.

When motivation is unclear, you can:

❌ coach harder
❌ support more
❌ remind more
❌ push more

… and still get nowhere.

Not because they’re incapable but because there’s nothing pulling them forward.

With clear motivation, everything changes:

→ Decisions become easy
→ Action is faster
→ Discipline feels natural
→ Less emotional resistance
→ Less wasted resources
→ Higher productivity
→ Lower managerial effort
→ Faster, cleaner results

Skills can be taught.
Motivation cannot be manufactured, but be discovered should one is ready with right support.

No motivation = no momentum. And everything feels slow.

Science taught me more about leadership than I imagine. If I can see the effect, I can trace the cause. If I can trace the cause, I can transform my results.

For years, I thought I wasn’t a “science person.”
I used to fall asleep in Physics class, until my teacher, Mr. Ravi, threw a chalkboard duster at me to wake me up. 😂

I survived a miserable year in Biotechnology course studying Biochemistry, Immunology, and Microbiology with glazed eyes and feeling stupid at most classes.

Until recently when I saw how deeply science applies to leadership and transformation.

One aspect of Science is about cause and effect.
If I can see the effect, I can work backwards to learn about the cause.
And when I can see the cause clearly, I can change my results.

Here’s the part most people miss:
They think leading people is an art.
It’s not... it’s science.

Which means people are far more predictable than most realize.
Patterns of behavior follow patterns of thinking.
Patterns of thinking come from a set of beliefs.
Change the beliefs, and the emotional pattern shifts.
When our emotional pattern shifts, our actions change as a result.
This is when the performance truly transform with ease and flow.

Most people say, “I’ll believe it when I see it.”
But the successful leaders who keep innovating and getting ahead of the curve say: “I’ll see it when I believe it.”

Belief shapes perception.
Perception shapes behavior.
Behavior shapes results.

Understanding that allowed me to work through my blame (the part of me that kept attracting similar results and people). It helped me to see how my deep seeded beliefs led to certain behaviour and triggers that led to my self-doubt and low confidence.
Once I could see it accurately, I could change it.
And when I did, confidence, clarity, and results all happened almost instantly.

Because like science, leadership isn’t about luck.
It’s about understanding cause and effect and taking ownership of both.

The next time your results plateau, don’t push harder, use it to work backwards to see what belief had been driving you and your behavior.

Unpopular opinion: Personal transformation is not personal development.

Most people think transformation starts with “working on yourself.” If that’s where your main focus is, you’re already starting on the wrong foot.

I know because I was confused before. I thought if I want personal transformation, I should focus on personal development. While it gave me self-awareness, the focus also had me over-indulging on the past pain that had me stuck in the first place. I became overly focused on “fixing” myself and let my problem led me vs letting my outcome lead me. I have seen many people stuck in the same loop.

Personal transformation is not about focusing on:

– Digging endlessly into your baggage
– Replaying your pain or past
– Riding on hyped-up, ra-ra emotions that crash the next day
– Managing emotions just to feel less hurt (but nothing in your results actually changes)
– Studying strengths, yours or others’... hoping it boosts your confidence while quietly avoiding real challenges
– Avoiding negativity instead of focusing on the outcome you want

I’m not against personal development. I’ve done more of it than most people I know. But there’s a massive misunderstanding about how it works and where the focus should be.

True personal transformation begins with the outcome, not your wounds.

Not:

❌ What am I missing?
❌ What’s wrong with me?
❌ Why weren’t my parents different?
❌ How do I fix my flaws?

But instead:

What is the outcome I want and who do I become in the process?

This is the fast track.
This is what winners actually do.

Winners are not winners because they do endless personal development.
Winners win because they are ruthlessly committed to the outcome.

Here’s their fundamental:

Establish the ideal outcome clearly (not some feel good outcome)
Work backwards to the present reality
Try, fail, refine and repeat only what works

And in the process, they become the person who wins more.
They transform because the outcome demands it not because they are chasing an endlessly “better” version of themselves.

People who focus on transforming the outcome end up transforming far more than those who focus on fixing themselves.

MBA gets you in the room. Real leadership keeps you there and elevates you beyond it.

Most people think advancement comes from credentials, frameworks, or more academic knowledge.

But elite leaders eventually realise:

You don’t rise because of what you know.
You rise because of who you are when things break, shift, stretch, or accelerate beyond your old identity.

An MBA makes you a good administrator.
A certification provides a stepping stone.
A title recognizes your past performance.

But none of these build the internal architecture required for:

Navigating high-stakes decisions
Moving a team through chaos
Influencing without forcing or manipulating
Maintaining clarity under pressure
Expanding without burning out
Shifting markets with vision, not confusion
Evolving faster than the environment around you

This is where most leaders silently hit the ceiling.

They keep stacking degrees, frameworks, and courses  but the internal operational system stay in the same version and became their bottleneck.

Because you can’t out-credential a leadership gap.

You can’t “case study” your way out of:

Identity limitations
Clarity deficits
Emotional reactivity
Power leakage
Lack of strategic personal vision
Avoidance of difficult conversations
Inconsistent boundaries
Fear of being truly seen

The elite know this.

At a certain level, skills don’t separate winners from everyone else... leadership does.

Leadership is your insurance.

Your insurance against chaos.
Your insurance against uncertainty.
Your insurance against stagnation.
Your insurance against being left behind in a market that rewards clarity, courage, and adaptability, not credentials.

The leaders who continue rising aren’t the ones with the most qualifications.

They are the ones who do this:

Define a clear vision → work backward → remove internal resistance → execute with clarity → lead themselves first → then lead others.

They don’t wait for permission.
They don’t let fear negotiate with their future.
They don’t outsource their evolution to academic structures.

They build the internal operating system to align with external strategies that work.

That’s why some people can attend the same programs, read the same books, listen to the same podcasts and one rises while the others stay stuck.

The difference isn’t knowledge.
It’s leadership capacity.

How do you deal with difficult conversations? For years, I avoided them like the plague while somehow attracting them. 😅 

I thought avoidance would keep the peace. In reality, it kept me small. There was no real peace, just a busy mind ruminating, replaying, worrying… quietly draining me in the background.

As I grew as a leader, I realised something uncomfortable but true: Difficult conversations are not optional. They are the key to confidence, clarity, trust, and growth.

This applies whether you’re a founder, CEO, C-suite leader, parent… or simply someone who wants to build better relationships.

This post was sparked by Steven Bartlett's interview with former Secret Service agent Desmond O’Neill. If you want to upgrade your influence and leadership, I highly recommend it.

One thing Steven shared that I relate to: He struggles when he feels blamed in a conversation.

I get it.
I’ve been there.
And many high-achieving leaders feel the same but rarely admit it.

Here’s the paradox: Many of us know about the concept of ownership, projection, professionalism and emotional responsibility… yet the moment someone points a finger at us, how often do we freeze, defend, attack, or withdraw?

That is where our composure collapses. We stop listening. Instead, we fight to be right instead of leading the outcome.

Over the years, this is what I observed and experienced:

→ When accused, our reflex is to defend or counter-attack.
→ When triggered, we label the other person instead of listening.
→ When emotions escalate, both parties lose the plot.
→ When we avoid, resentment builds silently.
→ When we take things personally, our inner critic runs wild and clarity disappears.

Radical ownership + clear boundaries = leadership freedom.

I've been all sides:

Blaming and been blamed.
Reacting and made things worse.
Frozen under accusation.
Labelled others and blocked solutions.
Being critical and been criticised.

I’m far from perfect but I am proud of the work I’ve done:

→ Taking radical ownership of my part.
→ Leading instead of reacting.
→ Understanding instead of labelling.
→ Staying open even when I feel attacked.
→ Building boundaries without building walls.

Every time I get back up, I am not the same person I was before because I am going for true freedom:

Seeing others clearly, seeing myself clearly, and choosing responsibility without losing myself... while living the best life with both economic and personal freedom.

Yes, discipline and force can take you far. They can even help you hit exceptional results. But without emotional mastery, the success won’t feel complete. You hit the goals… but no peace of mind. Without peace, where's the freedom?

If you want your kids to feel small, insecure, or “not good enough,” here’s exactly what to say:

Why aren’t you like your brother/sister/cousin/neighbor/friend?
Why do you keep making the same careless mistakes?
How many times must I tell you?
Why can’t you get it right?
You should know better.
Stop embarrassing me.

It sounds harsh written out, but many parents say these daily without realizing how deeply they cut.

We justify it with good intentions, but good intentions with bad execution still create more damage than we would like to.

Kids form beliefs about themselves based on their interpretation of what you say to them.

My biggest wake-up call working towards a being a conscious parenting and leadership:

I had to face the fact that my intention doesn’t matter if the outcome is the opposite of what I want.

When something isn’t working, I have three choices:

1. Blame others and demand they change
2. Hope things get better
3. Change my part in the dynamic so the outcome changes

Option 3 is the only one that consistently gives control, power, freedom and minimize frustration, stress and burnout.

The parenting-leadership parallel nobody talks about:

My kids reflect my leadership style... just like teams do.

When I’m permissive, always saying yes to avoid conflict, they stop respecting boundaries… and I end up resentful.

When I’m authoritarian, trying to control behavior with punishment, pressure or reward, they become anxious, overly compliant, or rebel when I’m not looking.

But when I’m authoritative... clear yes, clear no, space for emotions, firm guidance and understanding... they show confidence, honesty, respect and perform better.

Leadership works the exact same way.

Your team reflects your emotional state, your boundaries, your insecurities, and your clarity.
If you don’t consciously lead the dynamic, you leave the outcome to chance and someone else ends up leading. If no one takes charge, the lowest common denominator tend to be the one. Hence gossips and negativities spread the fastest and impact the team morale the most.

This is the part most leaders overlook:

You can’t claim to be intentional while operating unconsciously.

If you’re not consciously leading the outcome, you’re unconsciously creating the one you don’t want.

Which leadership style are you showing up with most of the time?

Everyone wants a breakthrough until it starts breaking them.

Here’s what no one tells you about breakthroughs and transformation:
It never comes at the time you expect, in the way you want, or when it’s convenient.

In fact it's the totally opposite... when you feel like the world is going against you but you decided to face what you finally need to face.

If you want to plan for transformation, you’re in delusion.

We all say we want transformation but few are prepared to walk through the fire and rise out of it.
It’s like wanting to go to heaven but refusing to die.

Our education and society trained us to think linearly.
That’s why transformation is so rare, the very thinking that once brought us success is now our glass ceiling.

For many years, we gave full of people this two choices:

1️⃣ Receive $1,000/month for 20 years
2️⃣ Receive $1/month compounded monthly for 20 years

Most will say they’d choose No. 2... but in real life, almost everyone chooses No. 1.

Why?
Because linear thinking blinds us to the power of exponential growth and being ready emotionally to go through the process.

After 20 years:
With No. 1, you get $240,000.
With No. 2, you get $6,291,456.

That’s the cost of thinking small and being attached to what we are familiar with, it feels safe, but it keeps you stuck in survival and security mode that might look like success but limited growth.

There’s a lily pond story that explains this perfectly:
If a lily pond will be fully covered in 30 days, on which day is it half-covered, starting with 1 lily?

Linear thinking says: day 15.
Exponential thinking says: day 29.

That’s why transformation feels impossible until right before the breakthrough, usually in situation that forced us to face what we have not been willing to face.

The first 28 days are the hardest.
You’re testing, failing, learning, and doubting yourself while the world looks like they are all moving on.

That’s where most people quit, on day 5, 10, 25, or 28…
Just before the exponential curve takes off.

The key is to unlearn and rewire your mind to think exponentially. The more I embrace the power of exponential, trust myself and let go of my linear thinking:

The less I react to noise.
The more I choose mastering timing, momentum, and energy and get in the zone.
The more I am able to optimize with confidence and certainty.
