I'm building Unravel Health with two brilliant cofounders, our university partners, and the backing from Zinc impact VC and several grants.
Unravel's mission is closing the data gap in women's health. Specifically the hormone data gap. 
Hormones are central to women’s health – with impact far beyond reproductive conditions, from cardiovascular to neurological health. And yet we currently measure them with one-off blood tests, which lack visibility into highly personal fluctuations and variability.

The lack of granular, full cycle data is one of the reasons “we don’t know how to best manage and treat even the most common women’s health conditions”, as quoted in the White House Women’s Health Initiative.

From my personal struggles with PCOS and fertility to perimenopause nearly 20 years later, I was appalled at just how little we've evolved in women's health knowledge and diagnostics. One one had humans are colonising Mars, and meanwhile on Earth women still live 25% more years in poor health than men! Unacceptable. We need female first tools, to get female first data, to end the era of trial and error diagnosis and treatment in women's health. (Did you know women weren't included in clinical trial until the 90s, and only in 2016 were female mice mandated in experiments!?)

That's why Unravel was born. Our initial product is the first truly instant, at-home device that measures multiple hormones + relevant condition biomarkers, simultaneously and non invasively. This will give unprecedented insight and control to women, and also dicovery tools for academic, health and pharma organisations.

There is no future without better visibility into women's bodies.

> Unilever: Led the Global Home Care leadership team to radically rethink their approach to netzero. Through a series of facilitated individual and group sessions, plus a multi-day sprint, I aligned 35 people from 6 departments on a single vision and actionable roadmap, prioritising 3 MVP products to pursue. 
> FC Kitchen: Developed customer strategy and product roadmap for an online platform to reduce meat consumption among football fans. Onboarded production partners and influencers, aligning them against vision, objectives and key metrics – which resulted in 30%+ uplift in AVD and a compelling investor pitch.
> NHS Blood Donation: Identified behavioral change opportunities that could be done with zero technical changes convert intent into a donation and turn single to repeat donors.
> Produced a documentary about the power of nature to heal and unite people (in festivals now). Recruited filmmakers, raised funding, developed sponsorship strategy and set up charitable fund.
> Building an app to increase exposure to diversity among young kids through the simple act of colouring: In prototype design stage.
> Cofounded a platform to digitise career advisors' process, securing 50K prototype grant from  Nesta.

Product & Innovation Strategy Consultant

Leading strategy to deliver an end-to-end customer experience for a global technology brand.
An immense challenge to unify a disparate ecosystem of B2B, B2C, Ecommerce, Brand and Support. Creating an IA and design system that will serve over 60 countries – and will be flexible and futureproof for a rapidly growing product portfolio.

CX & Product Strategy

Nimbletank

Ran several ecosystem and product design projects for NatWest with the fantastic UX, UI, Dev, Content and Research team at Nimbletank.
Developed a vision and roadmap of the bank's first-ever holistic support offering for business customers, created from disparate existing services and identified new products to be built.
Off the back of this high-profile piece of work, I then led development of two new products within  the ecosystem:
1) A prototype for an interactive, diagnostic tool to access 1:1 human support for businesses.
2) A two week intensive design sprint that brought together multiple teams all working on climate propositions, to create a single product vision for the bank's sustainability offering to businesses. (This ties into the bank's widely publicised pledge of £100 billion green business funding by 2025.)

Zinc Network

Applying design thinking methodologies to turn insight and data into rapid prototypes for social and behaviour change interventions. 
Built an Innovation and Learning Lab process from scratch – designing workflow, resource structure, budget and operation blueprint. The Lab's objective was to centralise disinformation efforts in an ex-soviet country – bringing together government, NGOs, media, civil society and private organisations to maximise impact and improve quality. This is a multimillion, 5-year programme supported by USAID and FCO. 

Worked with Ukrainian government to help them develop operational models and strategies for two disinformation departments reporting to the President's Office and Ministry of Defence. Done in a series of facilitated workshops to shape proposals for their teams, budgets and roadmaps.

Climate Focus

International climate consultancy (Climate Focus) funded a social impact brand, designed to reduce meat consumption among the challenging demographic of football fans.
I joined the founders to insert customer data and behaviour change strategy into a product that had skipped from idea into production. Under my leadership, we unified our production partners, influencers and content teams – through a focused strategy and KPI framework – which became the foundation for building the product roadmap, commercial strategy and investor deck.

Visa

Working in a dedicated Innovation unit within Visa's Product team, I led a team of research partners, UX, UI, and Developers to tackle huge (and often ambiguous) strategic challenges for Visa's high profile clients, through an iterative discovery, co-creation and prototyping approach. Challenges like “What’s the future of credit in Romania (a credit averse population)” or “How might we design a best in the world SME finance solution?” 
A flagship project was to delivered vision and roadmap for a spend management product for one of UK's top banks.

Ultimately the role drove both revenue and reputation for Visa, requiring board-level presentations and compelling executive narratives.

Sprint Kingdom

Custom Design Sprints – from research to sprint design, facilitation and prototype development.

Building good things. With good people. That do some good for the world. 

Although my titles change (Strategy, Product, Founder…) my role is to act as the central point of vision, leading a project from problem to prototype – from data to delivery – be that in a startup, agency or corporate team. Often this starts with a First Principles approach: making sense of information and creating a prioritised business case for best next action. Then aligning teams around an inspiring narrative, and beating the drum of human-centered design excellence.  

My favourite ‘tools’ are design thinking methodology (and facilitating co-creation), behavioural change principles, systems thinking, and (crucially) storytelling. 

I have led multidisciplinary teams for Fortune 500 companies overseeing strategy on multimillion-pound projects, both for B2C and B2B products. I spent over 10 years in global experience agencies, then in 2019 moved to run my own consulting practice – creating space for projects with a genuine intention to do good. This has led to launching ventures for climate consultancies, working with governments to tackle social change, and advising tech for good startups to secure investment and deliver a prototype. 

On the side, I am ‘walking the talk’ – building my own ideas, including two businesses and a documentary.

I spoke on a panel as part of London Life Sciences Week about the state of Data & Insight in women's health innovation and the reaction was 😳.
Several people approached us afterwards with slightly stunned faces. They said it was "a lot to think about." Why – because think about this...

When grant funding in women's health is being cut (Anna Luisa Schaffgotsch pressed the EIC for answers directly!). When NHS and NICE guideline approved innovations are having distribution halted (like experienced by Devika Wood, MPH with a proven dementia product). When ad censorship is costing women's health products hundreds of thousands in lost revenue (like the 40% traffic drop resulting in 600,000 missed web visits for Hertility.)

When that happens innovators are driven to survive. We do it for ourselves and our shareholders. That often means we have to go payers serving mostly the 'can pay' demographics.

And what happens then? The data sources become heavily distorted. They get skewed towards a very specific demographic segment in the global north.
This leads to new AI models being trained on biased datasets. This leads to medications literally not working when applied in the global south (something Dr. Elsa Zekeng is used to hearing each visit there). This leads to huge disparity in life saving medication take up because under represented communities do not trust the source.

So. Is this a first ever non optimistic post from me?
Absolutely not. I remain an unwavering optimist.

Because look at the sheer power in that venue. Investors, industry experts, policy makers, and founders. 
Women are particularly good at channeling rage externally (as the men in our lives will know!).

We live in fast changing times. This speed and scale of response to biases as they emerge is evidence that this isn't a future that will be tolerated. Change is inevitable.

If we flip the narrative I actually think Women's Health might be the fastest moving, most responsive sector to shape policy and data in the space of AI.
