Nearly twenty years ago, at the age of 27, I experienced my first burnout. Caught in the relentless pace of a ‘work hard, play hard’ culture, I didn’t see the signs until it was too late. 

Burnout was rarely discussed in mainstream circles then, and awareness was limited. This experience taught me that prevention is the best therapy. I set up the business from scratch for Skills Alliance GmbH in Switzerland to provide recruitment services across Europe within life sciences. In year two, we quickly grew a multicultural & multilingual team of 8 and achieved north of 1 Million in Net Fee Income. The average tenure per employee over its course was 3.5 years and total intake was 32. I was the first employee at Skills Alliance GmbH. The group signed a private equity deal in 2022.

The pilot flying the plane from one place to another doesn’t own the aircraft nor is he a shareholder of the airline.

Yet, he has complete control and responsibility for the plane and its passengers.

The football manager doesn’t own the football club nor is he a shareholder of the brand.

Yet, he has complete control and responsibility over its players and the pitch.

The heart surgeon who operates on a patient doesn’t own the hospital nor is he a shareholder of the clinic.

Yet, he has complete authority over the operating room.

Ever seen someone walk into the cockpit because the plane was flying through turbulence?

Ever seen a football manager being told what to do at the 60th minute because his team was 2–0 behind?

Ever seen a heart surgeon being put under pressure midway through the operation?

No, you have not.

Why is it, then, in the business world, that we have so many who think they know better?

Just because your team is struggling or you’re behind target it doesn’t give anyone, whether a shareholder or a director, the right to interfere with your work.

So when you see someone in the office constantly sniffing around, like a hyena putting their nose into other people’s business, ask yourself two questions:

1.	How can they effectively do their job while obsessing over someone else’s?

2.	Is there something more sinister going on here under the pretence of “knowing better”?

As a company, if someone doesn’t do a good job, you have the right to replace such an employee.

The pilot touches down. Replace him.
The football manager finishes the season. Replace him.
The heart surgeon comes out of the operating room. Replace him.

But you do not have the right to interfere with their job while they are performing their duties.

Every move starts with a blank page.
Whether you are:

- Leaving a company after many years
- Making a bold career move
- Relocating to a new place


Or simply starting all over again.

You have to start somewhere 
and that’s usually with a blank page.

So we ask ourselves:

“Where do I start?”
“Where should I go?”
“How will it all turn out?”

The fear of starting over never truly goes away.
And at first, your steps might look like nothing.

But as you move forward 
as you keep painting your story 
the bigger picture begins to appear.

We tell ourselves these things.
Especially when we’re:

– Relocating to a new country

But here’s the truth:

Most breakthroughs aren’t about having the right resources.
They come from becoming more resourceful.

No fancy tools.
No perfect conditions.
Just raw, natural materials… and vision.

And sometimes that’s all we need:

💡 A spark of creativity
🪨 What’s already around us
🧠 And a mindset that says: 

“Let’s make something from this.”

The market is brutal.
And there’s no sign it’s going to get easier.

You send hundreds of applications.
Make countless cold calls.
Do everything “by the book.”

And all you get is rejection.
Over and over.
Until rejection stops being external, it becomes internal.

It’s demoralising. Heartbreaking. 
At times, even depressing.

Your effort feels like it’s going nowhere.

We get lost in a sea of sameness.

That buzzword everyone throws around: 
“Stand out from the crowd.”
Easier said than done.

But here’s the thing: it’s worth digging into.
Everyone talks about the “attention economy.”
But how do you actually get it?

How do you make:

employers, 
clients, 
or buyers stop scrolling and take notice?

Maybe it’s not about being better.
Maybe it’s not about reinventing the wheel.

Maybe it’s about doing the same things… but differently.

Baby steps are underrated.
Everyone seems to be chasing the big jump.

Whether you’re:

- planning a bold career move
- changing jobs
- or relocating to a new place


We often wait for that perfect opportunity,
that big leap that changes everything.

But most real progress doesn’t look like that.
It’s small. Quiet. Consistent.

Losing weight doesn’t happen overnight.
Healing takes time.

So does finding the right next job
or moving to the place you’ve always dreamed of.

The truth is, those smaller steps often get us further than we think.

We arrive in better shape,we appreciate the journey more, and somehow it lasts longer too.

One of the most common interview questions:
“Are you a good team player?”

The usual answers:

“I support my team.”
“I help where I can.”
“I avoid conflict.”

And a classic one:

“I’m happy when I see my teammates succeed.”
Good answer 👏

But what if your teammate clears the whole table in one shot?
Just like that.

Still happy?

Life often comes down to a few moments.
Especially when you’re:

– Leaving a company after many years
– Relocating to a new place
– Or making a bold career move


It usually takes countless thoughts, hesitations, 
and sleepless nights before you finally seize the moment.

And sometimes, opportunities pass us by 
not because we’re unready,
but because fear, doubt, or comfort held us back.

Yet everything starts with a thought 
a heartbeat that stays with you for months,
sometimes even years,

before you finally take the leap.

That’s why, once we do, we often say:

“I wish I’d done it earlier.”
“Why did I stay so long?”
“I already knew years ago.”

But when you finally ride that wave 
when you feel that moment 
you stop caring how long it took to get there.

You never look back.

Often, we get decision fatigue.
Because we think it’s a one-way street.
🤔But when you really think about it, it rarely is.

We put so much pressure on ourselves to get it right,
until we end up tired, overthinking, and stuck.

- Should I change jobs or not?
- Move countries or stay?
- Take this path or that one?


And what if it doesn’t work out?

Then comes analysis paralysis.

As we grow older, every decision starts to feel heavier.

But maybe the real trick is to take things a little lighter 
and remember that you can always turn around.

🤔 “I changed jobs…
but somehow I ended up in the same situation again.”

Change that matters isn’t transactional.
It’s transformational.

Most people switch jobs for:
- money, 
- status, 
- or a nicer title.

And sure that helps. Until it doesn’t.

Because once the novelty fades, 
you realise nothing inside you changed.

You just carried the same stress, 
the same frustration, the same patterns…
into a new building.

That’s transactional change.

Transformational change is different:

- less stress
- more clarity
- deeper alignment
- a sense of meaning you can’t fake

And even when it’s hard, you know it was worth it 

because you changed, not just your job.

That’s the real upgrade.
