Before Mr Perfect, and MRP FC, there were these gents.

In 2009, despite moving to the "Lucky Country" as an escape, I was at one of the lowest points in my life. I felt like the loneliest person in the world.

Along came a bunch of these guys from Lindfield FC (one, our coach, Peter Regan, even offered a proper place to live when I was on a workmate's couch and had nowhere to go).

Coaching and playing for this team, these "football friends" became tight.

The glue was the football, and the safety net it provided, people to socialise with, and laugh with, and to band together each Saturday to work our backsides off for each other.

A few of these guys then became the nucleus and founding members of both the charity and the football club (and most became each others' "Best Men" and Groom's Party Members!).

Although I’ve had more football comebacks and seen more clubs than Frank Sinatra, I always seem to find my way back to the pitch. And these "originals" meet once a year for our annual Christmas drinks (today). And I now open it up to any man to come along. 

The multiplier effect and spiderweb of those 2009 actions are real. A decade later I hear weekly stories about the strongest male friendship groups that were born out of these simple, no frills, grassroots movements.

Please, this holiday season coming, if you can support movements like ours (there's 100s of them that go unnoticed scrapping by on cents and dollars), get behind them, chuck them the price of a coffee, go attend their gatherings.

I'm proud to say we not only saved ourselves, we helped others thrive. You will never know the immense scale and impact of your most simplest of actions.

I've been following their work since founding in 2022 & had those gut feels that are hard to ignore (Phoebe Bardsley and & Josh Case also just happen to be superb, warm, and sharply intelligent humans). 

In a previous life, I lived and breathed medical recruitment, dabbling in Locum, contract & "permanent" opportunities.

And still, the sector needs dragging into the 21st century. But with a race to the bottom on agency fees, eye-watering costs to actually just turn the lights on and do business, & health services (& agencies) not adopting recruitment technology quick enough to make locum work easier, this creates opportunity.
