I used to think great GTM was about perfecting the playbook.

Better sequences. Smarter outreach. More touchpoints.

Then I started getting flooded with AI-written outreach that all sounds the same, and I realized we're all doing this to each other.

I sat down with Omer Gotlieb (co-founder of Totango, now CEO of Salespeak.ai) for Ep. 103 of The Upside. We talked about how B2B buyer expectations have fundamentally shifted — and how most companies are still operating like it's 2019.

Omer recently asked a room of 400 business leaders a simple question:

"Who here likes getting SDR calls and spam LinkedIn messages?"

Zero hands. Shocking, right? 

"Then why are we doing it to our customers?"

The AI tools we're using to "scale" are actually degrading the buyer experience we claim to care about. Omer calls it the "spam cannon" — flooding inboxes because we can, not because we should.

Perhaps we took this approach because we felt like it was necessary to grow the business. 

Here's the thing: AI could actually be used to do the opposite of the "spam cannon" instead if we chose to use it smarter.

Instead of scaling bad experiences, what if we used it to deliver white-glove service to everyone? To meet buyers where they are, with what they need, when they need it?

His advice for improving the buyer experience? Simple but hard: "Be in the buyer shoes. Design for the buyer."

Go to your own website. Play the role of a potential buyer. See what hoops you're forcing them to jump through.

B2B buyers now expect what they get everywhere else — instant answers, zero friction, respect for their time. Most companies haven't caught up.
