Last week with Nestlé Nespresso SA ☕️ was one of those weeks that reminds me why I love what I do. 💛

Two days of RAIN Group Strategic Account Management training kicked off the week. 
A day in the middle spent outside the training room. 👀🏭
And two more days of training to bring it home.
That day in the middle mattered more than it might sound.

The HQ team organised an incredible strategy day at the Nespresso factory in Romont, Switzerland, a behind-the-scenes factory tour, time with the HQ team to hear about strategic direction, and the chance to get hands-on with both new and trusted products🙌.

No slides to deliver.
No exercises to facilitate.
Just listening, observing, asking questions, and spending time together! 🤝

It’s easy to think the real work only happens in workshops. But days like this quietly change everything that happens in them. You see how decisions are made 🔍. 

You understand the pressures, the ambition, and the pride people have in what they build 💡. And you gain context you could never get from a briefing deck alone.

By the time we’re back in the training room, those insights show up in better conversations, sharper examples, and training that feels grounded in reality, not theory.

Do you wanna build a snowman? ☃️❄️⛄️ 

What started as a playful idea in the middle of a snowy day turned into a wonderful reminder of how we approach challenges in sales and in life. 
What started as a joke quickly became a full project. There was planning. There was delegation. There was quality control. And there was a lot of laughter. 😄 

As we were shaping this snowman I was reminded of something I teach in every sales training session. 

Great outcomes rarely come from one person working alone. They come from people who show up for each other even when it is cold, even when the timeline is tight and even when the task seems a bit ridiculous at first. 
Selling is the same. 💡 

It is not just about individual performance. It is about how we collaborate, how we communicate and how we build something together that we are proud of in the end. 🏆 

Sometimes your best insights show up in the most unexpected places. Even in a snow-covered courtyard with a snowman that leans ever so slightly to the left.

Along with a team of 15, I worked for six months to raise enough funds for the building materials and equipment for Mbeunkong Secondary School in Cameroon. We raised over £53,000 for the project and then spent three weeks there in the village assisting with the build and spending time with the children and their families who would benefit from the school project. The project was so successful that another team of 15 will be going out to another village Cameroon in January 2014 to complete a similar project.

✨ One of my biggest leadership lessons didn’t come from a book, a training, or a clever quote on LinkedIn. 

It came from messing up. 😅 
Back in my early leadership days, I thought being a good manager meant protecting my team from anything and everything. 

So I mothered them. 
I updated the CRM for them. 
I chased customers for them. 
I prepped contact lists and tidied up after them. 

All with the best intentions. 
I genuinely thought I was helping. 

But what I was really doing… 
👉 taking away their chance to learn, grow and feel proud of their own success. 

That mistake taught me more than any handbook ever could: 

💎 Support doesn’t mean taking over. The goal is confidence, not dependency 
💎 Mistakes are gold. Let people try, stumble, reflect and rise 
💎 Leadership means listening first. Ask, observe, then guide 
💎 Celebrate effort, not just outcomes. Motivation comes from feeling trusted 
💎 Growth needs psychological safety. People do their best when they feel safe to fail 

That oops moment shaped how I lead and how I coach managers today. 
Leadership is not about doing the work for your team. It is about creating the space for them to shine.

On our trip to Greece last year, we visited the local market in Loutraki and picked up the freshest, (and cheapest!) ingredients. 🐟🍋🥒🍅 

Among them, some fresh fish, caught that morning, and still whole! I had never prepared whole fish before, so I turned to YouTube for a quick tutorial. 

Knife in hand, I fileted the fish unlike a pro, but managed to make a tasty meal for our friends and family nonetheless! 😅

It got me thinking about how we learn on the job. Whether it’s tackling a tricky client conversation, a new sales tool, or a project outside our comfort zone, we all need guidance sometimes.  

Once upon a time, we would learn from our colleagues by watching them in action and asking questions when something came up.  

Nowadays much of that inspiration and support comes from virtual sources, videos, forums, or colleagues online, just like my fish tutorial! 💻🐠 

The key is knowing where to look and being brave enough to dive in.

Bist du schlechten Nachrichten einen Schritt voraus?

Letzte Woche hatte ich einen Termin bei der Dentalhygiene.

Extra clever geplant: erster Termin am Morgen, danach direkt ein wichtiges Meeting. Perfektes Zeitmanagement, dachte ich. 😇

Dann vergingen 10 Minuten.
20 Minuten.
Über 30 Minuten.
Kein Hinweis.
Kein Update.

Kein kurzes „Es dauert heute leider etwas länger“.

Ich saß im Wartezimmer und merkte, wie meine Geduld langsam… sagen wir… sichtbar schwand. 😬

Als der Dentalhygieniker mich schließlich abholte, war er sehr entschuldigend und erklärte sofort die Situation.

Ein Patient war früh morgens aus Dortmund angereist und im Stau stecken geblieben.

Und jetzt kommt der Twist:
Mein Meeting war zwischenzeitlich verschoben worden. Ich hatte also gar keinen echten Zeitdruck mehr.

Aber das spielte keine Rolle.
Die Frustration war trotzdem da.
Nicht wegen der Verspätung.
Sondern weil mich niemand vorher abgeholt hatte.

Und genau da sehe ich eine riesige Parallele zum Vertrieb.

Wie oft schieben wir unangenehme Nachrichten vor uns her?

In der Hoffnung, dass der Kunde es nicht merkt. Oder dass sich das Problem irgendwie erledigt.

Die besten Verkäuferinnen und Verkäufer, die ich erlebe, machen das Gegenteil.

Sie gehen proaktiv auf den Kunden zu.

Zum Beispiel:
👉 Lieferverzögerungen ansprechen, bevor der Kunde selbst nachfragt
👉 Preisanpassungen frühzeitig erklären und einordnen
👉 Zum Telefon greifen, wenn ein Zeitplan wackelt, statt abzuwarten
👉 Risiken offen benennen, statt sie auszusitzen

Kunden erwarten keine Fehlerfreiheit.
Aber sie erwarten Ehrlichkeit und Transparenz.

Schlechte Nachrichten werden nicht besser, wenn man sie aufschiebt.
Vertrauen schon, wenn man sie früh teilt. 😉

Also ganz ehrlich:
Bist du schlechten Nachrichten einen Schritt voraus? Oder hoffst du, dass sie einfach nicht zur Sprache kommen?

Have you heard the saying:
“You can’t complain about clowns if you keep buying tickets to the circus.” 🎪🤡 

It was a new one on me. 
But it really got me thinking about sales. 
Because in sales, it is very easy to blame the clown. 

The prospect who ghosts 👻 
The buyer who only wants a price 💸 
The deal that drags on for months and goes absolutely nowhere 🐌 

And yet… we often chose to enter the circus. 
Most sales frustration is not caused by customers. 

It is caused by decisions we make early on ⏳ 
Who we qualify in (and who we do not) ✅❌ 
What behaviour we tolerate 🚧 

How quickly we move forward without real clarity on pain, impact, or urgency 🔍 

If your pipeline is full of: 
🔹stalled deals 
🔹discount pressure 
🔹lots of “nice conversations” with very few decisions 

It might be time to pause and reflect. 

Are you chasing activity instead of intent? 
Advancing opportunities without clear value? 
Hoping alignment will magically appear later? 

Top sales professionals do not win by performing for the crowd 🎭 

They win by asking better questions, setting firmer boundaries, and having the confidence to walk away when it is not a fit. 

Better qualification leads to better customers. 
And better customers rarely live in the circus. 
That saying was new to me. 

But I have a feeling I will be using it again.

Viele starten ins Gespräch mit Charme, Energie und Spontanität, aber ohne wirklich vorbereitet zu sein.

Fragen bleiben unbeantwortet, Bedürfnisse werden nur oberflächlich erkannt, und am Ende heißt es: „Wir melden uns.“ 

Dabei ist Vorbereitung kein lästiger Schritt, sie ist der entscheidende Unterschied. 
Die besten Verkäufer:innen, die wir erleben, gehen nie unvorbereitet in ein Gespräch. 

Sie kennen die Situation des Kunden, haben die richtigen Fragen parat und wissen, wo sie echten Mehrwert schaffen können. 
Worauf du dich vorbereiten kannst, bevor du ins Kundengespräch gehst: 

📊 Die aktuelle Situation und Herausforderungen des Kunden recherchieren 

🧠 Ziel für das Meeting definieren: Was soll am Ende erreicht sein? 

❓ Relevante und offene Fragen vorbereiten, die Bedürfnisse wirklich aufdecken 

💎  Mehrwert aus Sicht des Kunden verstehen. Was bedeutet es für Sie? Was hat die größte Auswirkung in ihrer Welt? 

🗂️ Alle nötigen Unterlagen, Angebote oder Präsentationen griffbereit haben 

🤝 Eventuelle Einwände überlegen und vorbereitet sein, darüber zu sprechen 

Spontanität kann sympathisch wirken. 
Aber Vorbereitung schafft Vertrauen, Sicherheit und Ergebnisse. 💪

Im September 2021 war es endlich so weit. 

Nach über einem Jahr Lockdown, Zoom-Müdigkeit und Wohnzimmer-Trainings hatte ich mein erstes Präsenztraining wieder. 😅 

Ich war aufgeregt wie beim ersten Mal:
Würde die Energie noch da sein? 
Würde ich es noch fühlen?
 
Und dann stand ich im Raum… 
Neugierige Augen. 
Lachen hinter den Masken. 
Echte Gespräche. 
Und diese besondere Spannung, wenn Menschen gemeinsam lernen wollen. 

Das alles hatte ich so vermisst. 💛
 
Ich habe gemerkt, wie sehr mich echter Austausch trägt und motiviert. Wie sehr Lernen live wirkt, inspiriert und auch herausfordert. 🚀 

Seitdem habe ich über hundert Präsenztrainingstage erlebt 📅 

Jeder einzelne anders, aber jeder ein Beweis dafür, dass persönliche Begegnungen auf einer viel tieferen Ebene bewegen. 💡 

Präsenztraining schafft Vertrauen. 

Es ermöglicht direktes Feedback, ehrliches Lachen, stille Aha-Momente und kleine Durchbrüche, die man online einfach nicht immer spürt. ✨

Ich erinnere mich an meine ersten Wochen im Vertrieb. 🏃‍♀️💨 

Jeder „Nein“ hat mich getroffen. Ein Lead sagt ab, ein Deal platzt, und plötzlich fühlte ich mich entmutigt. 😓 

Dann habe ich etwas Wichtiges gelernt: Ablehnung ist kein persönliches Scheitern, sondern Teil des Vertriebsprozesses.

👉 Notiere wiederkehrende Muster bei Absagen 
👉Teste kleine Anpassungen in Sprache, Fragen oder Struktur
