I am a serial entrepreneur and a business growth consultant. I started off as a personal branding expert and have over 1.2 decades of experience in running an agency that offers digital marketing and social media growth. In the past 3 years alone, we have worked with over 340 founders, CEOs and business leaders from across 11 countries in helping them build their personal brands online by building digital assets.

I also run a highly vetted exclusive mastermind for business owners and CxOs who are actively building their online presence. 

In this journey, we figured out that most companies find it difficult to scale mostly because they are stuck in one of two things

-   lack of systems
-   lack of time because of lack of systems

Hence the inception of SGI Collective, a new age growth consulting company for small and medium sized businesses. 

We work with SMBs for a 6-month to 1-year long period in building growth systems that can help the business scale so the operator can go back from being a firefighter to an entrepreneur. Three inferences

1. If you are a billionaire, people will do everything you do, thinking that's why you are a billionaire, except working on building a proper business. Your brain will make you do anything other than doing the actual work.

2. People will do anything to feel like a winner instead of winning the actual game they are in. For example - 
 - they'll be losing in their business, but finish a 5 km marathon to feel like a winner.
- they'll be sinking in debt, but create content and reach 50K followers to feel like a winner.

3. People with range go on to win in life. But that should have happened from a young age and must have been nurtured for a long time so growth happens naturally. Nikhil is a person with range. But if you force it, it will give negative effects. If you don't know what I am talking about - read this book called 'Range' by David Epstein.

To make sure this little kid

- who was scared
- who was insecure
- who was anxious
- who was brought up by a single mom
- who thought he wasn’t worthy of being loved
- who thought he wasn’t worthy of being respected 

Feels proud of how he turned out to be!

1700 days of posting on LinkedIn.
No days off.

Today marks my 1700-th day of consistently showing up on LinkedIn.
There are many strategies to grow on LinkedIn. But consistency is the most satisfying strategy of them all.

It has gotten me 107,000+ followers on this platform.

When I started, I knew nothing about 

- the platform 
- the strategies that work
- what positioning I should take
- how much value I must provide

But, all I knew is, if I keep on keeping on, I will get to grow, eventually.

There are people who heckle at consistency because it is difficult and they think it cannot be a strategy.

People who do this, just don't know where consistency can take them, because they know nothing about it. People who can't keep a promise they make to themselves, silently hate on people who keep promises.

Remember, when you don't know what strategy to follow, follow consistency. Because, consistency is THE strategy.

Keep on, keeping on!

Join toastmasters 
Join a writing course 
Hang around good storytellers 
Hang around subject matter experts

Do something or the other, but learn to communicate like a maestro!

Almost all victors in the world, are good communicators. 
All world leaders are good communicators. 

I’m not saying that if you’re an effective communicator, you’ll win at life. 
I’m just saying, that almost everyone who’s won at life are effective communicators. 

Learn!

Why I don't help anyone, until they ask me?

You see people suffer.
You see people go through difficulty.
You know that it is difficult for them to do it alone.

Yet, it is cruel to help them.
Until they ask you for it.

Here's why 

1. You might be robbing them of the opportunity to evolve into the person who is capable of solving the problem.
2. You might be solving a problem that they don't consider a problem.

There is a beautiful saying by Paulo Coelho that goes - "Don't help others without their permission. Sometimes we want to fix things that they don't consider to be broken."

Offer help, only when asked! 

Period.

P.S.: In other words, "Unnoda indha karunai, adhoda saava vida kodumaiaanadhu!" (Kabali reference)

So having a big personal loss is a competitive advantage! 

Who could’ve known!

Getting into the top 1% involves risk. 


But most people don’t know what kind of risks you gotta take. 

So here’s a list of risks you must take to get to the top 1%. 


- Constantly trying to be in rooms you don’t deserve to be in 

- Apply to colleges and programs you shouldn’t get into 

- Apply to jobs you shouldn’t get hired into

- Express friendship to people who are more impressive than you

- Surround yourself with people with higher character and more success than you 

- Compliment good things in other people because it’s not the most intelligent or the best looking or the best athletes but the people who likes the most people 

- Be super nice


It’s not easy. If it was easy we wouldn’t call it a risk. But it’s a risk that you take to get ahead in life. 

Take risks.
They’re totally worth it.

When most people are celebrating Superstar Rajinikanth’s birthday today, a few people are working their asses off to become someone whose birthday will be celebrated by millions someday!

Look around you, there is some person who will someday become a legend in their industry. 

They will 

- impact the way we live
- lift mankind a little bit higher
- change the world to the better

If you know someone like that

- encourage them
- love them and 
- tell them that you are counting on them

To those few people - 

It's okay if people don't believe in you now.

One day they will say - "Enaku appovae theriyum, nee perusaa varuvanu!"

There is a beautiful saying

You can perform to your beliefs. 
You can underperform to your beliefs.

But you will never out-perform your beliefs.

If you believe that you are not enough, no amount of effort will let you get what you want, because deep within you feel you are not enough.

The best way to get what you want is just 'assume' identity. 
Act as if, you are already worthy of having everything you want. 

Intentionally show up as the person you want to become.

It is simple. Not easy.
But for the person you will show up as, it is easy!

I don’t want to be in the spotlight!


- is the biggest objection that people have when it comes to building their personal brand. 


You think personal branding is about selling yourself. 

No, it’s not. 

Personal branding is about selling your ideas through you.

The idea is not to say - “Hey, look at ME!”
The idea is to say - “Hey, look at THIS. Isn’t the idea nice?”

Basically,

Personal branding is not about being in the spotlight.
Personal branding is about being the spotlight. 

Be the spotlight.
Help people grow.
Help them see things differently.

What a privilege it is to be tired from work you once begged the universe for!

82 entrepreneurs, CxOs and coaches attended my Becoming Known Intensive - a 2 day workshop on personal branding. 

Gratitude messages has been pouring in since we finished it yesterday. 

I was in total flow state for the past 2 days. 
Tried to keep all 82 in the flow state for 2 days. 

How beautiful it is to see people bloom?
How beautiful it is to be a witness of someone’s growth?

All 82 had an experience of witnessing each other bloom. 

What more can I ask for?

Just grateful to be of use! 
Just grateful to do work that matters!

Ask an Indian kid who he/she wants to be like?


They’ll say - “I wanna be like Elon Musk / Mark Zuckerberg!”

They rarely take Indian names as inspiration. 
You know why?

Because, having travelled to 3 continents, all I have seen is that for every small thing the west does, it tells big stories, but, the east does big things but keeps its mouth shut.

We do a lot of work but shy away from speaking about it. Because it seems like it’s too much or too flashy or too noisy.

Every opportunity we don’t use to tell our story, we are losing out on ten more! 

- It’s time for the east to tell more stories.
- It’s time for the rest of the world to know the stories of my people. 
- It’s time for our kids to take inspiration from our own people who look and speak like them. 
- It’s time for the rest of the world to know what our people have been building and what we’re capable of building. 

After 5 years in the personal branding space, I’m redefinining my mission. It’s gotten larger. 

I’m dedicating the next couple of years of my life to helping bring out a million Indian stories to the world. 

That’s 10 lakh Indian stories. 
That’s 10,00,000 people telling their stories that anybody can take inspiration from, ideas from, network with people who make them and grow together. 

Imagine the impact that we will make by doing this?

I believe stories change the world. 
Let’s tell stories that are worth telling.
