Why some sites are suddenly disappearing from ChatGPT citations?

There’s growing speculation that the decline in website mentions across ChatGPT and Perplexity is tied to Google’s num=100 parameter update. 
Why?

When ChatGPT retrieves live web data, it doesn’t crawl the web directly. Instead, it performs background searches on Google or Bing to collect relevant pages.

But with Google now limiting each query to 10–20 results instead of 100, the models suddenly have far fewer URLs to pull from.

If OpenAI hasn’t reworked its scraping system to mimic infinite scroll, that means the retrieval pipeline is seeing less variety with every query.

Fewer URLs fetched → fewer unique domains available → fewer brands cited.

The result?

Websites that used to sit in the middle of Google’s results (positions 30–80 Reddit threads, niche blogs, or secondary sources) may have quietly disappeared from ChatGPT’s answer set.

We’re observing this shift clearly in AIclicks visibility data. 

A minor tweak on Google’s side might be reshaping how LLMs perceive the web.

Simplest Reddit growth strategy anyone can follow:

Step 1: Find the prompts your customers are actually asking

Use AIclicks .io to turn your keywords into real, question-style prompts. Track what people actually type into ChatGPT, not what you think they ask.

Don't just publish on your site. You need Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn, Quora, Medium. AI looks at all these sources when deciding what to cite.

to review sites like Trustpilot, G2, or Capterra.

The goal is simple: make your brand show up everywhere people (and AI models) look.

Reddit is becoming one of the most effective growth channels for any brand.

And not just for Google traffic. For AI visibility, too.

ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews are now pulling real product mentions straight from Reddit discussions. 

So when your SaaS gets mentioned naturally in those threads, you’re becoming part of the training data these AI systems use to understand products.
