Health food and wellness is a large, complex and consequential industry, and that’s why I love it. 

This past weekend Vancouver hosted CHFA NOW, a B2B conference focusing on the natural health and wellness industry. The conference includes a vibrant mix of brands, retailers, distributors, brokers and service providers. 

Every year, we at Tropoly attend CHFA both in Vancouver and Toronto, keeping us dialled in to the sector. We have a number of clients in this space, including Health IS Wealth Group Inc. and Crush Dynamics Inc., and being engaged on the ground level allows us to do our best work with them. 

Embedding ourselves into our client’s world; it’s our passion and our differentiator. 

It was great seeing so many familiar faces and watching this community expand over the years. Neel Singh is a brand strategy & marketing leader with over 20 years of experience in marketing, technology, and business transformation. He helps organizations innovate and grow through corporate strategy, competitive positioning, and operational leadership. Neel works with high-growth companies looking to scale, and large-scale organizations needing to innovate both as a fractional executive and a consultant.

For nearly a decade, Neel served on the leadership team at BBTV (BBTV:TSX) as Head of Marketing and CX where he helped the company build and scale through start-up and hyper-growth to its eventual public listing on the TSX in 2020. During this time, Neel developed and led several functions across marketing, customer experience, customer operations, strategic development, sales enablement, and creative. He helped position the company for strategic growth, oversaw multinational programs, led change management initiatives and mentored staff into senior positions. He also led the creation and launch of nearly 30 media and tech brands, registered 15+ trademarks and collaborated with the likes of the NBA and HuffPost.

Neel’s executive experience also delved into a fractional Chief Operating Officer role in a high-growth electric vehicle charging company where he oversaw the development of the company’s strategic goals and KPIs, provided leadership to the business units and led marketing efforts.

We've been working on this for a while, and what better time than CHFA NOW Vancouver to talk about what we've been doing with some of our clients in the food industry.

"The Food Industry's Three-Way Collision" pulls together the research we've been deep in for months. If you work anywhere near food, wellness, or ingredients, give this one a read. 

The food industry isn't dealing with one disruption. It's getting hit by three at once, regulatory, financial, and cultural, and they're all pointing at the same uncomfortable question: what's actually in the food?

A few highlights from the article:

🔬 The FDA is phasing out synthetic dyes. 140+ state bills targeted food additives in 2025. Walmart launched the biggest private-brand reformulation in retail history. Washington isn't asking anymore.

💰 Alt-protein investment cratered 84% from its peak while clean-label and functional ingredient platforms blew past $45B. The money has already made up its mind.

🛒 81% of shoppers now prioritize clean label. Small brands grew at 4.9% last year while the big guys managed 0.5%. A $17B reckoning.

Most boardrooms are still treating these as three separate problems with three separate slide decks. They're not. They're one system, and the companies that figure that out first are going to eat everyone else's lunch.

CHFA is in our backyard this weekend. 8,000+ industry professionals, 900+ exhibitors, several of our clients on the floor. They all need to know that the old playbook is not coming back.
