Her father allowed her to study when she promised to marry the man of his choice. Then, she became CHANEL's first female CEO. 
And now, she received UK’s highest civilian honour.

Leena Nair grew up hearing:

"You're so ambitious who'll marry you."
"You're so talented you should have been a boy."
"Your father has two daughters, no son. How sad".

At 17, she had to negotiate her right to study. No woman from her small town had ever left home for college.

He told her, “I’ll educate you, but I can’t promise I’ll let you have a career.”

She studied engineering in a class of 3,000 men and just 18 women.

Then she switched paths and earned an MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur.

In 1992, she joined Unilever as a management trainee when women were just 2% of the workforce.

She broke rule after rule over 30 years:

 • First woman to do night shifts in factories
 • First woman on the management committee
 • First Asian and first woman to become Unilever’s CHRO

She shared, “I learnt so many lessons, about the factory and production, the shop-floor ecosystem, and the importance of resilience. It’s made me who I am.”

And in 2021, she made history by becoming the first Indian and first woman to lead CHANEL.

In June 2025, she received UK’s highest honor, the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) from Prince William at the Buckingham Palace.

Leena didn’t just break ceilings. She bulldozed barriers.

She’s an icon for thousands of women who are told they are “too much.” She didn’t let any of those voices stop her.

She now uses Chanel Foundation to uplift women and girls.

A true trailblazer.

Luana Lopes Lara grew up in Rio de Janeiro. 

Before Wall Street ever heard her name, she was a ballerina.

She’d practice for hours. Would bruise her feet. It taught her precision and the art of performing under pressure.

That same grit carried her all the way to MIT. She started studying Computer Science and Mathematics.

At MIT, she met Tarek Mansour. 

Together, they started Kalshi (Arabic for “everything”) - a platform that lets people trade on real-world events:

 → Will inflation rise this quarter?
 → Will a recession hit before year-end?
 → Who will win the next U.S. election?

It sounded crazy and impossible.

They fought legal and regulatory battles for 3 years.

65 attorneys rejected their idea.
But they persisted.

In 2020, Kalshi became the first-ever CFTC-approved event exchange in U.S. history.

By 2024, it made headlines again as “the first federally regulated platform to offer legal election betting”

Today, it serves hundreds of thousands of traders, has raised $415 million, and is valued at $5 billion.

Luana is also the only Brazilian on the Forbes 30 Under 30.

She said in an interview:
“Every time we were told to stop, it only made us clearer about why we had to continue.”

Luana proved that impossible ideas just need unreasonable persistence.

Mira Murati grew up during political upheaval in Albania. 

At 16, she won a scholarship to Pearson College UWC in Canada.

She then pursued a dual academic path: a Bachelor of Arts at Colby College in 2011 and a Bachelor of Engineering from Dartmouth’s Thayer School in 2012.

She did an internship at Goldman Sachs and moved to Zodiac Aerospace.

Then came Tesla, where she worked on the Model X and Autopilot as a senior product manager. 

But her defining chapter began in 2018 when she joined OpenAI as Vice President of Applied AI and Partnerships. 

By 2022, she was promoted to CTO. 

Under her leadership, the team built ChatGPT, DALL·E, Codex, and Sora.

The company raised a record-breaking $2 billion seed round at a $12 billion valuation. 

And when Meta tried to poach her team with offers worth up to $1 billion each, not a single person left.

This immigrant woman took over a dying chip company and turned it into a $250B giant. Today, she’s a billionaire and TIME’s CEO of the Year.

Lisa Su was born in Taiwan. Her family immigrated to the U.S. when she was 3.

At 10, she taught herself to code on a secondhand Commodore 64.

In school, she built a hurricane simulator in a shoebox.

Her dream? To study the hardest thing possible.

So she chose electrical engineering at MIT, earned a PhD, and entered the male-dominated semiconductor world.

After years of hard work and proven leadership at IBM and Texas Instruments, in 2014, she was offered the CEO position at AMD.

This was a hard one to write.
1 year ago my world split into two. Joy and darkness.

I nearly died giving birth to my second baby.
I contracted sepsis during delivery.

I thought it was in the past but my trauma memory resurfaced as his 1st birthday approached.

While I couldn't wait to celebrate him, I felt:
↳ Fear that something will happen again
↳ Grief for missing out on his first few days of life.
↳ Guilt for not feeling pure joy.

My body remembered the pain, loneliness, and fear.

I desperately want to re-do those newborn days.

I thought I was weak for feeling this but I've realized:
Happiness and sadness can coexist.
Speaking my trauma doesn’t reduce love for my son.

And, I know I'm not alone in experiencing this duality in motherhood. 

Most alarming is that my trauma is common:
↳ 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable.
↳ 1 in 3 maternal deaths happen after birth.
↳ Only 1% of research is focused on maternal health.

I’m sharing my story for every mom who pushes aside her feelings to take care of everyone else.

SpaceX was on the edge of collapse. She is the mastermind who turned it into the company taking us to Mars.

Gwynne Shotwell grew up in suburban Chicago. 

Daughter of a brain surgeon and an artist. 

She was a a kid who loved engines more than dolls.

When she was 16, she attended a panel for women engineers. 

Something clicked for her. 

“I want in,” she decided.

She studied mechanical engineering and applied math. 

Spent her early career designing spacecraft and analyzing military launches.

She didn’t dream of fame. She wanted to build things that worked.

Then in 2002 she took a bet. 

SpaceX had no successful rockets. No stable funding. No reason for anyone to take it seriously.

But Gwynne joined anyway, as employee #11.

Her job?

Convince NASA and the U.S. military to trust rockets that hadn’t flown. 

She has to sell a future no one could yet see.

And she did. 

Over the next two decades, she helped make the impossible happen:

• First private rocket to reach orbit 
• First private spacecraft to dock with the ISS 
• First rocket to land and be reused 
• First private company to send astronauts to space

In 2008, she became President and COO.

Inside the aerospace world, there’s a quiet truth everyone knows:
If Elon is the face of SpaceX, Gwynne is its spine.

She negotiated billion-dollar government contracts. 

She rebuilt teams after explosions. 

She scaled Starlink from idea to global network. 

She turned skeptics into believers. 

She kept launches moving forward when failure felt inevitable.

SpaceX didn’t rise because of one visionary. 

It rose because of the woman who could execute the vision.

Leadership isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s the person who shows up, holds the line, and gets the impossible across the finish line.

An immigrant lawyer who beat trillion-dollar tech giants — and she's the youngest person in 110 years to lead America’s consumer protection agency.

Lina Khan was born in London to Pakistani immigrant parents. 

When she was 11, her family moved to New York to build a better life.

She grew up curious, outspoken, and unafraid to question how the world worked. 

She wrote for her school newspaper and constantly asked: 

“Why are the rules the way they are?”

That question carried her all the way to Williams College, then Oxford, and later Yale Law School - where one paper changed everything.

At 27, Lina wrote a 93-page critique of Amazon that shook the country. 

Her paper went viral in legal circles, reframed the national conversation, and became one of the most influential antitrust writings of the century.

From there, she stepped straight into the rooms where power lives:

• A think tank studying corporate consolidation 
• The House Judiciary Committee’s antitrust team 
• The Open Markets Program

Then came the moment that made history.

In 2021, at just 32, Lina became the youngest person in 110 years to lead America’s consumer protection agency.

And she didn’t waste a day.

During her time in office, she:

• Challenged Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft 
• Helped win $1.5B+ in refunds for ordinary people 
• Blocked mergers that threatened competition 
• Fought corporate “dark patterns,” winning $245M from Fortnite 
• Pushed a non-compete ban that could boost the U.S. economy by $400B

Her tenure ended in January 2025. 

Today, she’s helping shape the future of New York City as co-chair of mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s transition team.

But Lina’s biggest contribution is bigger than any single case.

She forced America to confront a question it had ignored for decades:

What happens when a handful of companies hold more power than millions of people?

Her work pushed that question into the spotlight, and she’s only getting started.

She grew up believing basketball could never be a full-time career for a South Asian woman. Today, she’s the first Indian-origin head coach in WNBA history.

Sonia Raman grew up in Massachusetts. Her parents were Indian immigrants.

She loved basketball, but never saw anyone who looked like her, and that absence always made her feel like an outsider.

In 1992, she started going to Tufts University and made the college basketball team as a walk-on. 

But then a car accident shattered her leg and ended her season. That injury changed everything.

While sidelined, she started studying opponents and breaking down strategy. She became so good at strategy that she was voted team captain the very next year.

But after college, she chose the safer path. She went to law school… because how can basketball be a full-time career for a South Asian woman?

So she took a corporate job at Fidelity Investments and built a stable career in compliance.

But still every evening, she would rush from the office to coach at Wellesley.

Her colleague noticed the spark in her eyes and finally said:
“You’re meant to be a coach, not a lawyer.”

After months of doubt, she took the leap. (Thank God, she did!)

She started as head coach at MIT and went on to become the best coach in MIT women’s basketball history, earning NEWMAC Coach of the Year twice.

In 2020, the impossible happened: She entered the National Basketball Association (NBA). ♥️

The Memphis Grizzlies hired her as an assistant coach, making her the first Indian-American woman in NBA coaching history. From there, she joined the New York Liberty.

And in October 2025, she got the call that changed everything.

Sonia Raman became the first Indian-origin head coach in WNBA history, leading the Seattle Storm.

She says it best: “I know I’m the first. I don’t want to be the last.”

Because of her, girls who love basketball won’t choose the “safe” path anymore.

She took a failing team… and built a $450M franchise and grew the fan-base by 300%

But her story began far from sports.

Clara Wu Tsai grew up in Kansas. Her parents were Taiwanese immigrants.

She always felt like an outsider, but she loved to learn, and learning became her way forward.

By 22, she had an MA from Stanford. Then she got an MBA from Harvard.

Her career began as a business analyst at American Express. 
Later, she helped lead operations at Taobao Marketplace, Hong Kong.

In 1996, she married Joe Tsai. For the next two decades, the couple lived across Asia, raising three kids.

Clara eventually shifted her focus to create actual change.
- Launched a $50M Fund to help small businesses survive the pandemic
- Built the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute, helping brain-related research
- Co-founded REFORM Alliance to change probation and parole laws

Then came the moment that changed her legacy.

In 2019, the New York Liberty were struggling.
Low attendance. Mounting losses. No buyers.

Everyone assumed women’s sports were broken.

Clara didn’t.
She believed they were simply underfunded.

So she bought the Liberty and moved it back to NYC. She transformed the team:
- Invested in world-class facilities.
- Recruited star talent.
- Rebuilt the culture from the inside out.

Today, the Liberty draws 12,000+ fans every game. They're valued at $450M.
It is one of the greatest turnarounds in WNBA history.

All led by Clara- now one of the richest and most powerful women in sports.

Through it all, her philosophy has stayed the same: 
“Use your platform to create opportunity where it didn’t exist.”

And she has-
For women in sports.
For communities overlooked.
For anyone rethinking what leadership should look like.

She’s a true changemaker.

I’m embarrassed to say this…

But my child is sick AGAIN.

For 2.5 months, it’s been a revolving door of germs. 
Toddler gets sick from school, then the baby, then me. 
Just when we recover, another wave hits.

At this point, I hesitate before telling people. 
I worry they must think I’m exaggerating.

But I’m not. 
This season has taken us out.

And even though I know I’m not doing anything wrong… 
↳ I feel guilty every time I reschedule a meeting. 
↳ I cringe bringing a kid onto a call. 
↳ I panic when I see the first runny nose.

It’s not just the logistics that are hard. 
It’s watching our kids feel miserable. 
That heartbreak takes a toll too.

My team has been supportive. No one is judging me. 
But I’m still feeling anxious.

To every parent drowning in tissues right now: 
You’re not alone. 
You’re not failing. 
You’re tired because this is hard.

I almost got fired from my senior leadership role.

I was doing good work but I made a classic mistake.

The pricing work I was leading at Intercom was on track.

When leadership asked how things were going,

I said "Good." I thought that was enough. 
There were no big results to share yet.

So I didn’t want to waste their time.

But what I ended up doing is hurting my reputation.

Leadership started losing trust in the project.
In me.

 I started getting managed out. 

I scrambled to send updates but it still didn't fix things.

I nearly lost my job before learning two painful lesson: 
✅ Silence kills trust. 
No updates sounds like no progress.

✅ Sharing work by itself isn’t enough. 
You have to be clear how it achieves key goals. 

Once I strategically shared updates, I rebuilt trust.
Then the CEO tapped me to lead a bigger initiative.

The reality is: You’re not rewarded for execution of work. 
You’re rewarded for perception of good work.

Visibility matters more than good work alone.

Did you see what happened?

The percentage of women in a company drops after the first career level. 💔

And this needs attention.

The drop is not accidental.

It happens right where perception, visibility, and “leadership potential” start to matter.

And the research is painful:

↳ Men apply for a job when they meet only 60% of the qualifications.

Women apply only if they meet 100% of them.

↳ 𝗕𝗕𝗖 reports that women are held to higher standards for promotions than men.

I’ve felt the overthinking myself…

the constant rehearsing,

the fear of being misread, 😞

when all you’re trying to do is communicate your value clearly.

So how do we fight back?

How do we ensure we’re not losing opportunities or the visibility we deserve?

We stop waiting to be noticed.

And start communicating our value in a way that lands.

When I got promoted to manager, I didn’t ask for a raise.

I was scared they’d realize I wasn’t ready.

I’d never managed people before.
I worried my team would see right through me.

If you've felt like an imposter, you've probably:

My inner monologue was brutal.
You’re not ready. You’re faking it. They’ll find out.

Then one day, something shifted.

I helped my report write a brief explaining a new feature.

Watching him grow because of my guidance… it clicked.

I was qualified.

But because I could support my team.

That’s leadership.

2️⃣ Choose ease over perfection
↳ Pick kid-friendly activities
↳ Optimize logistics for simplicity
↳ Say no to plans that wreck naps

3️⃣ Divide planning like a team
↳ I handle packing.

↳ Clear lanes reduce last-minute chaos.

4️⃣ Strategize gear (what to pack, buy, or rent)

Travel with kids is chaotic. No one sleeps well.

It’s a trip. Not a vacation.

But 100% worth it.

These trips have given us some of our best memories.
