My story didn’t start in marketing though, it began in architecture, where I learned how to build things that last. Turns out, whether it’s a space or a story, the foundation matters. That lesson still shapes how I build campaigns today, thoughtful, grounded, and designed to connect.

Influencer marketing, for me, isn’t just about trends. It’s about understanding people, telling better stories, and creating impact that lingers.

𝗢𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹.

Someone asked,
“How did you become successful?”

And the reply was:
𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗜 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁… 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗻.

That hit me.

You don’t need 100 wins to enter the “successful” frequency.
You just need the patience to stay when it feels like nothing is working.

Today I’m sitting in a workspace I first visited in 2015, my first year of college.

Back then, I came here with friends.
Limited pocket money.
Big dreams.
Zero clarity.

If I had told them,
“One day, I’ll be working here every single day,”
they would’ve laughed and said,
“This girl is crazy.”

But here’s the thing about crazy dreams,
They only look crazy until they become routine.

I didn’t witness massive success every year.
I just didn’t quit on the days I lost.

And sometimes, that’s the only qualification success needs.

Influencer marketing didn’t grow because of creators.

It grew because different founders saw influence differently.

Before dashboards.
Before SaaS platforms.
Before the “creator economy” became a headline.

It was a perspective.

And what each founder believed about influence shaped what they built.

When Vivien Garnès, Kevin Creusy, and Alexis Montagne built Upfluence in 2013, they didn’t just see bloggers.

Creators weren’t just distribution.

But no architecture connecting intent to outcome.

So the focus became precision.

Shortlisting with purpose.
Mapping creators to funnel stages.
Building long-term partnerships.

To me, influence is structure.

What fascinates me is this,
None of these founders were “building influencer marketing.”

They were solving the version of influence they personally believed in.

Commerce.
Data.
Trust.
Workflow.
Enterprise.
Community.
Alignment.

Different lenses.

Same ecosystem.

And that’s what shaped the industry we operate in today.

In the last 2 years of running my own company, these are a few things I truly live by.

𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿.
If something urgent comes up, you already know how many hours are committed and whether you have space. Doing everything on the same day only creates 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘀 for you and your team.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.
Some days are great. Some days are difficult. But your effort cannot depend on external situations. Show up anyway.

𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴.
Every win and every mistake has shaped you. Do not underestimate yourself. Growth comes from both good and bad experiences.

𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲.
Everyone has a different background, timing and journey. Comparison only distracts you from your own path.

𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵.
Speed does not define success. Progress does.

And finally, 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀.
Focus on the process when working towards a campaign or goal. Being overly attached to outcomes only leads to emotional drain.

Still learning. Still building.

Ever notice this?

The month you work the hardest…
is the month nothing moves.

No replies.
No conversions.
No “excited to collaborate” emails.

And the month you feel slightly relaxed?
Boom. Things click.

Why does it work like that?

I’ve realised something,

Most of our real growth is invisible.

You’re getting better at pitching.
Better at reading people.
Better at handling rejection.
Better at not panicking.

But because there’s no public scoreboard…
you think nothing’s happening.

That’s the trap.

There’s this bamboo tree story, it grows underground for years before anyone sees it above the surface.

Imagine quitting in year 4 because “nothing is working.”

Scary part?

Most people do.

If you’re in a phase where effort > results…

maybe you’re not stuck.

Maybe you’re just underground.

For the past few years, I’ve been working closely with brands and creators in the Indian market, running influencer campaigns end-to-end, from creator sourcing to performance tracking.

Through this journey, I’ve collaborated with 60+ campaigns and built systems to manage creator networks and campaign reporting efficiently.

Lately, I’ve been exploring opportunities to collaborate with international brands and teams who are actively investing in creator-led marketing.

I've noticed something in a few brand meetings I've been in over the past few weeks. 

Different brands, different groups but the questions that came up were almost the same.

How do we find the right people to make things? 
How should you talk to influencers? How much should a brand really pay for each post? 
How do you set up an influencer campaign the right way? 

These seem like very basic questions to someone who works with influencer campaigns a lot. But I realized that for a lot of new founders and marketers in this field, it's surprisingly hard to find clear answers all in one place. 

Most people learn about influencer marketing in bits and pieces. One post about finding creators, a video about getting the word out.

Very few resources explain how an influencer campaign actually works from start to finish.

That is what made me start documenting things I practice through a weekly newsletter focused on real influencer marketing workflows.

In every edition, I try to break down things like:

• creator discovery strategies
• influencer outreach DM templates
• campaign structure and execution
• tools used for influencer campaigns
• performance tracking and analytics

Influencer Connect

I want to talk about something that has nothing to do with influencer marketing today.

Just a real thought.

If you’re in your 20s or 30s, you might relate to this.

Some days a small problem happens at work and the first reaction in our head is
“Why is this happening to me?”

It could be a difficult client.
A manager putting pressure.
A boss expecting too much.

Or if you run a business, the pressure just comes from everywhere.

And in those moments, the brain does something interesting.

If you have a job, you might think
“Maybe life would be easier if I had my own business.”

If you run a business, you might think
“Maybe life would be easier if I just had a job.”

I’ve caught myself thinking this too.

But the truth is… the grass always looks greener on the other side.

We all feel like our life is the one full of problems.

But sometimes I stop and think about something else.

The life I’m living right now…
is probably the exact life someone else is hoping to reach one day.

Someone wants the opportunity you have.
Someone wants the freedom you have.
Someone wants the career stage you’re at.

This is not a motivational speech.

Just a small reality check I give myself sometimes.

We feed our negative thoughts a lot.

But we rarely stop and acknowledge the good parts of our life.

And the funny thing is, at some point we actually imagined this life.

We imagined the dream.

We just didn’t imagine the problems that would come with it.

But that’s how it works.

Dreams come with problems.
They always did.

So if problems are here, chances are the dream is somewhere around too.

All I’m saying is this:

Don’t completely ignore the reality you’re living.

Notice the good parts.
At least acknowledge them.

Because not everyone has what you have right now.

And I say this because I’ve seen it everywhere,
in college, in workplaces, in conversations with people.

Most of us feed the negative mindset a little too much.

But ignoring the reality of what we already have…
might be one of the most underrated things we do.

People think their LinkedIn posts are failing.

Low likes.
Few comments.

So they assume the algorithm is ignoring them.

But something else might actually be happening.

Your post gets 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀.
𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀.
𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

Yet the post itself barely gets engagement.

It feels like a mismatch.

But here’s something most creators don’t realize.

LinkedIn often tests your post with people who don’t even follow you.

Second-degree connections.
People with similar interests.
Completely new audiences.

Which means your post might be appearing in the feed of someone thinking:

“Why am I seeing this post from someone I don’t even follow?”

(Funny enough, I recently came across this exact question on Quora, attaching it below.)

If LinkedIn is showing your content to people who don’t know you yet, that means

You are already reaching beyond your circle.

And that’s actually how audience growth starts.

Because most new viewers will,
read your post, check your profile, maybe follow you.

But they won’t always engage publicly.

Engagement on LinkedIn is social.

People interact more with creators they already know or trust.

So during this phase you might see:

𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀
𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀
𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵

But not necessarily more likes or comments yet.

And that’s where many creators misread the situation.

They think they’re falling behind…

When in reality the algorithm is introducing them to new audiences.

So if your engagement feels low but your profile views or followers are increasing, you might actually be doing better than you think.

Sometimes growth starts quietly

A couple of days before Holi, I got on a quick call with a founder who was preparing an influencer campaign for his iOS app.

He was as already running an influencer campaign but their app wasn't translating into installations. 

Their analytics were tracking 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀.

The creators they wanted to collaborate with had audiences that were largely 𝗶𝗢𝗦-𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆, yet the attribution links were configured only for Android.

Which meant installs coming from iOS users through influencer content simply 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱.

But the issue wasn’t the creators.
It was the 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.

Interestingly, a few days later another founder, who is launching a 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽 shared a completely different challenge.

They had already spent a significant amount on influencer promotions.

But when I asked simple questions like:

What CPM are you targeting?
What install conversion are you expecting?
What niche creators are you testing?

There was silence, the campaign had creators.

But no 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀.

And this is exactly why many 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗮𝗦 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀 today are scaling through 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 instead of relying only on ads.

Because the economics are becoming very clear.

• 63% 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘀
• Average influencer CPM is roughly $7 vs ~$20 for paid ads.

But the bigger advantage isn’t just cost.

Creators do something ads rarely achieve.
They 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁.

Instead of saying an AI tool is powerful, a creator shows:
“How this AI tool saved me 2 hours today.”

That moment builds trust.

And the fastest growing AI startups today are using influencer marketing very differently.

Some patterns I consistently see working:

𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀-𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀
Startups partner with a core group of creators for months so the product keeps appearing in real workflows.

𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼-𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀
Creators with 1K–50K followers often generate 3–5× higher engagement because their audiences trust them deeply.

𝗥𝗲𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁
Influencer videos often outperform studio ads by 30–50%, so startups reuse that content across ads, landing pages, and product onboarding.

𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀
Creators receive referral links and commissions, turning them into long-term growth partners.

𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀
Influencers get pre-release access and become the first storytellers around the product.

Especially for AI products that people need to 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 before believing in it.

India’s Orange Economy isn’t about celebrities anymore.

It’s about micro-influencers.

The creative economy is shifting, fast.

Here’s what’s really happening,
Micro-influencers
(10K–100K followers)
are rewriting how influence works.

Not through reach.
Through relevance.

The old belief,
Big followers = Big impact.

The new reality,
Niche expertise + Trust = Purchase power.

And this isn’t just marketing theory.

India now has 2–4 million creators.

Creator-driven content influences up to 30% of consumer spending.

Let that sink in.

This is no longer “social media.”

This is economic infrastructure.

Why micro (and nano) creators are winning:

• Higher engagement rates
• Stronger audience trust
• Deeper regional & cultural relevance
• Real conversations, not broadcast ads

In Tier 2 & Tier 3 India, this shift is even stronger.

Language matters.
Community matters.
Context matters.

Here’s the bigger picture:

The Government has formally recognized the “Orange Economy” in Budget 2026–27.

Creator work is no longer a side hustle.

It’s a structured economic sector.

Which means,

Micro-influencers aren’t just promoting products.

They’re,

Shaping purchase decisions.
Building communities.
Driving commerce.
Distributing cultural value.

This is authenticity replacing celebrity.

Community replacing mass awareness.

Trust replacing vanity metrics.

The real takeaway?

This isn’t about followers.

It’s about how trust compounds inside the creative economy.

Micro-influencers aren’t a “budget alternative.”

They are critical economic agents in India’s rapidly formalising Orange Economy.

The brands that understand this early
will win the next decade.

The ones chasing reach alone
will overpay for noise.

Save this if you’re building in India’s creator ecosystem.

The shift has already started.

Today was one of those founder days.

Three meetings. Three completely different briefs.

11:00 AM, a gaming platform exploring organic ways to reach gamer communities.

12:30 PM, a university brand looking at influencer marketing for student outreach.

1:30 PM, another brand discussion around performance-led promotion.

During the calls, everything sounds exciting.

Ideas. Campaign directions. Possibilities.

But the moment the calls end… the real work actually starts.

You sit with the notes.

Start researching the brand properly.

Open multiple tabs.

Study their audience.
Look at their positioning.
Think about what kind of creators would actually move the needle for them.

Because sending influencers is easy.

Sending a proposal that actually makes sense for the brand…
that takes thinking.

And that’s the part of building most people don’t see.

First you work hard to bring the right conversations to the table.

Then you realise the real challenge is what you build after those conversations.

Strategy. Research. Proposals.

The quiet hours after the meetings are where most of the real work happens.

After speaking to dozens of creators, I’ve noticed one common problem.

Content isn’t the issue.

𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲.

Many creators want to work with brands but don’t know:
• how brands evaluate creators
• how to read a brand’s media kit
• how to approach the right companies

So I’m considering starting a 𝗮 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀,
Each article would include:

Just wrapped a strategy call with a YouTube creator I work with.
We weren’t negotiating.

We were structuring how to pitch a brand.

And it reminded me how many people, especially on LinkedIn, don’t know how to speak to a CMO or Head of Marketing.

Here’s the key takeaway from our discussion:

Negotiation is psychology. Not pricing.

When a brand asks, “What’s your fee?”
That’s not a pricing question.

That’s a positioning test.

Step 1:
Before quoting, ask:

“What budget range are you working with for this campaign?”

Not to adjust downward.
But to check alignment.

If your positioning and their expectations don’t match, no amount of convincing will fix it.

Step 2:
When they ask, “What do we get for this value?”

Don’t defend your number emotionally.

Break down your structure:

• Integration strategy
• Concept and scripting
• Placement logic
• CTA linking
• Distribution plan
• Ad rights (if included)

Then shift the real conversation:

Audience alignment.

Demographics.
Location.
Age bracket.
Gender split.
Purchasing power.
Viewer intent.

Now the Head of Marketing can compare:

Their ideal consumer
vs
Your audience persona.

That’s how marketing decisions are actually made.

And here’s something many creators get wrong,

Never demean the brand.

Never say:
“You need visibility.”
“You don’t have reach.”
“You should invest in creators like me.”

When you speak like that, you instantly downgrade yourself from strategic partner to insecure vendor.

CMOs don’t respond to ego.

They respond to clarity, alignment and ROI logic.

If the campaign doesn’t convert, you may get the first payout.

You won’t get the second.

So stop trying to “close deals.”
Start trying to build repeat collaborations.
