Schools educate you academically. At an alternative education, we educate vocationally – our aim is to get students to be inspired by the world of work and options which might best suit their unique and special talents.

In a dynamic world where today’s youth may end up in careers and jobs that haven’t been conceived yet, we need to foster skills which allow young people to adapt and thrive. Much of our education system is focused on passing exams, which leaves little time to focus on the critical skills needed in today’s workplace. There is also mounting evidence to suggest that purely academic success at school does not necessarily result in success at work, or indeed in life.

Employers currently struggle to find recent graduates prepared with the right skills for success. A poll asking “Are students ready for today’s dynamic workplace?” revealed that 7 in 10 employers said No.. Employers say; “students may have textbook knowledge but don’t have the ability to take that knowledge to think critically, innovate, solve complex problems and work well in a team.” Employers want students to come to the workplace with skills that people used to develop on the job.

The Alternative Education Group is looking to bridge this gap by proving a bespoke learning journey to help students understand their key skills better and prepare them for the future of work.

The Alternative Education Group is a week for 16-19 year olds, where the experts come to us with with cases, real clients and real problems. Students work on real issues, develop a real network and get assessed against key employability criteria alongside receiving helpful psychometric feedback on which work environments will suit them best.

Qualifications don’t define a person. And I’m not going to give you my “15-years-of-experience” spiel. Instead, I’m going to tell you about who I actually am.

I'm a human dynamo who helps organisations achieve their potential by tapping into their most precious asset – their people. 

I’m a business strategist, business psychologist and executive coach, who works in business and understands the practical applications (which some business psychologists aren’t lucky enough to have experienced). I have enjoyed a successful career defining the vision of some of the UK's leading brands. 

I could not have achieved what I have without you: the customer, the client, the friend. It's your talent, dedication and genius that inspires me. 

Working with some of the most talented people in the business, I’ve developed my own, unique approach:

Strong relationships: I take my time to listen and understand your needs, in order to build a strong/trusting relationship. I relish the challenge of getting to know you and your business.

Executive coaches don’t often get feedback, so this one really made my day.

To be honest, I didn’t even know this Ezra dashboard existed until I saw another coach post theirs. I went to check mine… and there it was  a total satisfaction score of 5 out of 5.

It stopped me in my tracks. Because as executive coaches, we rarely see the true impact of our work. We hold space, challenge, support, and reflect and often move quietly behind the scenes while others take centre stage. So to receive this kind of feedback felt unexpectedly moving.

And of course, the psychologist in me couldn’t help but notice why it felt so good. 

Appreciation and recognition activate the brain’s dopamine and oxytocin pathways  the same ones that drive motivation, trust, and belonging. 

In simple terms: being told we’re doing well isn’t fluffy it’s neurochemically vital.
It’s a great reminder for leaders everywhere:

Don’t assume people know they’re doing a great job. Tell them. Be specific. Be generous.

Feedback like that isn’t just nice  it’s fuel.

Slow. The. F**. Down.*

Yes  that was the actual title of the event I attended by Glow London
and honestly? It couldn’t be more relevant.

In the leadership work I do every day, I see the same thing on repeat:

Constant hustle.
Burned out brains.
Back to Back meetings with no space to breathe. 
No space for the creativity and innovation we desperately need.

Neuroscience backs it: when we’re always “on,” our ability to think strategically and solve problems tanks. 

Slowing down isn't a luxury  it’s a leadership imperative.

One of the most powerful moments came from the incredible Emma Harris
who survived a cardiac arrest against the odds. 

Her story is a reminder: life is short. And how we choose to live and work matters.

As someone who’s been through deep trauma myself, this hit hard.

Slowing down to speed up? It’s not just advice  it’s vital.
