The Student Life Report 2025/26 by Campaign UK and native paints a very different picture of how this generation of students lives, spends and connects with brands and spoiler alert 👀: it’s not through TikTok dance trends or forced “relatable” influencer posts.

Students have never been a single demographic. They’re on what the report calls the Becoming Journey, a period of identity-building, financial juggling, ambition, and emotional overload.

And that means that marketing has to flex to four defining student behaviours👇

1- The Becoming Journey: Market to who students are becoming, not who they are today. Think about the mental image you had of your ideal self in your early 20s. Support their transformation: independence, confidence, career focus. (Think Monzo teaching money management, not “free overdrafts for students.”)

2- The Selective Mindset: They can smell inauthenticity from a mile away. 78% reject forced influencer collabs. 83% are selective with spending. You earn trust through consistent and well thought-through brand reliability and actions, not slogans.

3- The Stress Discovery Zone: Here’s the surprising one, 70% of students discover new brands during stressful moments. CEPs here are at clear play.
Brands that show empathy (handing out practical support during exam season, or offering real help during cost-of-living crunches) are remembered long after the stress fades. Build that loyalty early though genuine needs.

4- The Third Space Effect: Campus is still king.
Digital fatigue is real (77% instantly tune out social ads). But on-campus experiences build trust, spark digital ripple effects, and shape loyalties that can last for decades.

The big takeaway?
Stop marketing to “students.”
Start talking to becoming adults navigating identity, stress, and purpose.
The opportunity is huge, but only for brands that show up with empathy, relevance and practical value when it actually matters.
