I started my content writing journey in my second semester as I was participating in every writing assignment. I  was the go-to person to write the intros and conclusions for presentations and scripts.
As my communication subjects taught me how to write my Technical subjects helped me how to research.

No one taught me about intent when I started writing B2B/B2C blogs.

I learned about keywords, meta descriptions, H2s, all the SEO basics. But intent? Never came up.
And now, when I write for AI Overviews and LLMs, it's what works the most.

Here's what I've noticed:
The articles I wrote without considering intent? They rank on Google's first page. Sure.
But the ones written with intent? They show up in AI Overviews, too.

The difference is very clear. 
A 700-word article written with the right intent will perform better than a 2,000-word one that doesn't answer the reader's actual question.

So here's your mini guide to understanding intent in the simplest way:

Intent means asking three questions before you write:
🌸Why is someone searching this?
🌸What problem are they trying to solve?
🌸Where are they in their journey (learning, comparing, or ready to decide)?

That's it. That's the intent.

Here's a quick example; 
A client wanted a post on e-commerce SEO tools while featuring their own. I could've written a generic listicle.

But no, I thought about intent:
1. Who's actually searching this? Store owners who are already doing SEO.
2. What do they need? Something better than the free tools they've outgrown.
3. Where are they? They're ready to invest in a real solution.

So I structured it as: 
🌸Free tools (where they are)
🌸Where those fall short
🌸The paid solution as the answer


Result? The post is still ranking on the first page even after 14 months (right above #NeilPatel’s blog post on the same topic 😎)

When writing for B2C, you have to inform, and map the user journey.. 

The “intent” matters more for LLMs and AI overviews :
Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Claude look for the clearest, most direct answer to what someone actually needs.

If your blogpost answers the real question behind the search, you're in.
If it doesn't? You're invisible.

Before you publish your next blogpost, ask yourself:
✓ Does my title match the actual question?
✓ Does this move the reader closer to a solution?
✓ Would this satisfy the reason they clicked?

If yes, you've written with intent.
