Led team of product managers, developers and designers to build original products, or in partnership with startups, aimed at creating new solutions to support the Association’s mission. Using human-centered design practices we rapidly developed testable prototypes through MVCs, MVPs and pilots with a goal of quickly determining viability. Results included numerous products, some of which transitioned to internal business leads and one, a VR product called Alcove, was sold to a leading VR development company.

Built a product discipline and team doubling its size and capacity and led them to release multiple new rev-gen products and services for the $100mm+ enterprise including a re-imagination of Politico's marquee product Playbook, major expansions into Canada and California, a new premium Congressional transcription service and the basis for a redesigned Politico Pro experience. During tenure Politico Pro grew 20%, accounting for over 50% of the company's revenue.

Led product and overall customer experience for award-winning startup (NASDAQ: ULY) that's modernizing roadside assistance with technology including AI/ML by delivering fast, on-demand services for the consumer, enterprise and B2B markets - currently with $180+mm annual revenue. Facilitated and managed product relationships with other brands and services such as Mercedes-Benz, MapQuest, AT&T, Zendrive, auto OEMs and many leading startups. Featured in TIME, TechCrunch, Washington Post, Fast Company and CNET.

Street Fight

Founded and operated digital media property called Locl.ly (acquired by Street Fight / Hyperlocal Industries where I am advisor and columnist) focused on the business of hyperlocal, including local news operations, technology, local marketing companies and notable the people behind them.

National Geographic Society

Managed a staff leading product and content for National Geographic Digital, News, Video, Photography, Travel, Adventure, Environment, Animals, and cross-division initiatives. This included the design and UX teams focused on mobile applications as well as National Geographic Magazine digital and Magazine Today (iPad). Led the digital production of James Cameron's DEEPSEA CHALLENGE where the director and adventurer broke records diving to the Earth's deepest point. The effort also broke all traffic records at National Geographic and drove more equivalent media revenue than ever before. Constructed the specific framework of a go-forward strategy for the core tenets of National Geographic Digital: Websites, mobile, etc. - for both product and content.

Company acquired by Clearwire and relocated to Washington in 2009.

Responsible for plan and execution of transitioning a free Website hosting service into a broad consumer service supporting vibrant communities, state-of-art publishing methods and innovative widget-based advertising. Worked with team to develop and execute novel, engaging widget-based mashups customized for clients including Reebok, Adidas, films Ghost Rider, The Number 23 and Freedom Writers.

Four years ago today we announced the launch of the AgeTech Collaborative™ from AARP. We were quite a small team operating a bit like the startups we supported - feeling our way through the ambiguity and landing on a pitch, platform and purpose. 

It kinda worked ;-)

Today we're approaching 700 companies in the Collab, which we now count as the world's largest ecosystem of its kind. 

Thanks so much to the launch partners who believed in the mission including QED Investors, Revolution and T. Rowe Price.
