The frameworks increased speed to market, improved terms and delivered significant value to the business

Interim Category Manager - Professional Services Procurement (Environmental Consultancy)

Reporting to the Procurement Director and part of the Senior Leadership and Finance Teams, led the UK&I GNFR Procurement Team of 8, covering HR/Professional Services, Marketing, eCommerce, Business Services, Logistics, FM/Utilities & Shop fit and IT. This included performing a dual role for 6 months as Head of Category and the HR/Professional Services Category Manager and covered an annual spend of circa £1bn.

Head of Category - Goods Not For Resale Procurement  (formally Dixons Carphone)

British American Tobacco

Led the global sourcing team of 5 Regional Sourcing Managers in the procurement and replacement of 5,000 CAPEX and OPEX vehicles pa and project led the sourcing and procurement of Telematics for 22,000+ vehicles covering 100+ countries and 140 cross functional stakeholders. Contributed to and led the implementation of transformational change of the world-wide strategy for the fleet category, covering £140m annual spend and ensuring that complex elements of health, safety and security were fully considered and integrated.

Interim Global Sourcing Manager - Global Fleet Procurement

Operated as a trusted advisor from Project Manager level through to the Executive Board in delivering a two-phase Interim contract.  Took on projects which had fallen behind schedule and brought them back on track to deliver on time, covering Office Fit Out, Alarm Monitoring Centre build, Recruitment Services, and Insurance.  Then built a procurement plan and strategy for Pension Services, Consultancy Services, Banking and Employee Benefits. Both phases covered a contract spend of circa £79m.

Led the global roll-out of new vehicle and fuel policies, engaging all end markets whilst initiating the tender process to enable the supply base consolidation strategy, covering a budget of £140m.

Procurement work-steam lead for New Look, representing GPP in all stakeholder forums and managing a budget of £161m. Line management responsibility for 1 analyst, matrix leadership of 6 Buying Managers and cross-functional stakeholders from Cost Management, Design Management, Store Development and eSourcing Managers. 281 stores scheduled for roll out including all store formats (Extra, Superstore, Metro and Express) covering the High and Low-Level Signage, Shelving, Main Contractor, Furniture, Lighting/M&E, Trolley Bay and Checkout Cladding categories.

Global implementation of the Total Cost Management strategy for the Product and Supply Chain Solutions categories, covering 500 MCHF spend across 11 businesses. Management of global procurement budget for assigned categories including Traded Goods, Sandwiches and Bakery, Rotables and Consumables, Beverages, Vehicles, Logistics and Plastic Raw Materials. Member of the group procurement leadership team responsible for developing and executing the global procurement strategy, process control, budgeting and performance, and led a team of 10 global category managers (2 direct reports, 8 indirect reports) providing close and immediate support in their development of TCM strategies, including the development of strategic supplier relationships.

Richards industry experience is widespread working within various organisational environments from Public Sector and Utilities organisations, established global corporates and FTSE 100 companies, through to start-up businesses, those undergoing complex transformation and green/brown-field environments. Both in the UK and internationally.

Richard has a strong track record of delivery and a proven ability to build solid and sustainable relationships with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels and across functions. Richard has been able to turn around negative impressions of procurement within organisations and has had numerous contract extensions and invitations to return to organisations previously supported.  

Richard is highly qualified, he has a Postgraduate Award in Business Administration from Warwick Business School, am MCIPS Chartered, a Prince 2 Practitioner, an IPSE Member, and holds a CIPS Ethical Procurement and Supply Certification.
