I’m a social media marketer with 22K LinkedIn followers.

But I’m also someone who:

- Avoids X like the plague
- Has 136 followers on Instagram
- Often deletes the apps for a little break

There’s this weird expectation that you must post on your own socials to be good at your job.

What a load of rubbish 🥱

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge advocate for posting on your own socials as it lets you experiment with no restrictions.

But it does NOT make you any less great at your job if you don’t.

And a big following doesn’t make someone a better marketer.

Building a personal account is nothing like building a brand account.

You wouldn’t expect an architect to build their own home.
Or a nail tech to have perfect nails 24/7.

Most marketers already spend enough time online, so can we bin the idea that we have to grow our own accounts too?

Not doing something doesn’t mean you can’t.

Companies: “We need to post on social media.”

But then:

- Copy & paste whatever ChatGPT spits out
- Give the marketer zero creative freedom
- Every single damn post is a hard sell
- Only ever talk about themselves
- Share content with no value
- Post once in a blue moon

And then, 1 month later…

“We’re not getting results. Let’s pause for now.”

Most companies don’t give social media a real shot.

You can’t do it for 1-3 months & expect insane results.

Or wing it without a strategy.

The brands smashing it on social media:

- Show up consistently
- Engage with their audience
- Post stuff people want to see
- Build trust (not just sell, sell, sell)
- Add value: entertain, educate or inspire

So before you throw in the towel, make sure you’ve given it a proper shot.

You can’t half-ass it & expect results 🤷🏽‍♀️

After working with 25+ founders on their LinkedIn, I’ve seen the same barriers pop up again & again.

But there’s 1 that instantly makes or breaks things:

The fear that if you share your knowledge or process, someone will steal it.

- But how can you be seen as an expert?
- How can you build credibility & trust? 
- How can you provide enough value?

It’s bloody impossible 🤷🏽‍♀️

There’s this assumption that people will steal what you share.

But come on, 99% of us are way too lazy for that 😅

Sure, maybe they’ll save or screenshot it. 
But that doesn’t mean they’ll actually act on it.

Ideas and knowledge are literally everywhere. 

Execution is the hard part.

And by trying to protect yourself, you sabotage the things you’re trying to build - authority & trust.

So PLEASE don’t let this be the reason you limit the impact social media can have on your business. 

You’re not giving away your entire business model.

(And you don’t have to share every little thing!)

You’re just proving you know your sh*t - and that’s what drives opportunities & leads.
