On Friday, I had a call with a woman who nearly lost the most important thing to her in her life - her children.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗵𝗼:

➡️ Wore whatever you wanted without fear of being noticed by other men and accused of being a flirt

➡️ Made plans because you wanted to without needing permission

➡️ Danced unapologetically with your children in the kitchen

➡️ Didn’t apologise for existing

And slowly, you start becoming the version they wanted quiet, cautious, compliant. But that version isn’t you. She’s still there, 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗱.

The moment you realise love shouldn’t feel like this

Its a real concern when you look in the mirror and don’t recognise the person staring back at you. Somewhere between the constant checking-in and the never-ending “prove you love me,” you became small.

𝗜𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲:

- You edit your words, your tone, even your laughter - not to start peace, but to avoid punishment.

- You rehearse conversations in your head before you speak, trying to predict their reaction.

- You feel an almost physical relief when your phone is silent - but then panic when it stays quiet too long.

- You apologise first, even when you’ve done nothing wrong, just to calm things down.

- You find yourself explaining the same story over and over, desperate for them to believe you.

- You’ve started to shrink your world - skipping social plans, avoiding certain friends, hiding details just to stop the accusations.

- You confuse intensity for intimacy, passion for possession, and control for care (hello, trauma bond).

Please understand... 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲.
𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲, and it leaves you walking on eggshells trying to keep the peace.

When someone’s moods dictate your stability, your body goes into survival mode. That anxiety you feel is your nervous system reacting to danger, not devotion. It’s the hallmark of a trauma bond - a connection fuelled by fear, not safety.

Healing means slowly untangling the confusion between love and control and calm and chaos.

When “I care” becomes surveillance.....

Love isn’t a daily report you file to keep someone else calm.
The abuser always start small.. a simple request: Text me when you get home. Then: Who was there? What time will you be back? Why didn’t you reply sooner?
Your life all of a sudden becomes a spreadsheet of reassurance.

𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟:

✔️ “Share your live location” becomes non-negotiable

✔️ Phone pings trigger anxiety, not comfort

✔️ You stop going out to avoid interrogations

✔️ Your social feeds and doorbell cams feel like monitoring tools

𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲. And when it feels like surveillance, your body is right to say “no” - so please listen to it! and understand that what you’re experiencing here isn’t normal or healthy. Those constant check-ins, the guilt trips, the pressure to prove your loyalty… they’re not signs of love.
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹.
And if you’re feeling anxious, trapped, or like you can’t breathe without upsetting someone - that’s not a weakness in you. That’s your nervous system reacting to a trauma bond.

The problem here isn't that you’re “too sensitive.” The truth is you’re traumatised by inconsistency. You’ve been trained to confuse fear with connection and safety with silence.

Many think that healing means building walls or becoming cold - it doesn't! it means finding safety inside yourself again.
