In this role I have the pleasure of working alongside my Co-Convenor to oversee the running of Hands On at Otago program. This program invites 400 15/16 year olds to attend a camp in Dunedin for seven days. They are introduced to a an academic and social program. in this role we get to chair a committee of 22 people to ensure this program is a success.

•	Visit schools and other venues for the purpose of advising and informing potential students, their parents and members of the public about University courses and other aspects of University life.
•	Participate in marketing and promotional seminars, forums, information sessions, conferences and other activities as appropriate.
•	Organise promotional events for prospective students, parents and careers advisers as required. 
•	Monitor educational, political and social developments likely to impact upon the University, and advise the Head of Schools’ Liaison accordingly.
•	Inform and advise the Head of Schools’ Liaison on matters pertaining to secondary qualifications and University Entrance.
•	Assess the academic standards of applicants for Discretionary Entrance and advise the designated University authority accordingly.
•	Serve on University Admissions Committees.
•	Advise new, intending, transferring and returning students on course planning and degree requirements, either in group situations or in individual interviews.
•	Maintain the factual accuracy of the content of the Undergraduate Prospectus and other promotional material as required.
•	Inform Careers Advisers, Guidance Counsellors and other schools’ personnel of matters pertaining to the University and maintain good working relations with school Principals.
•	Maintain co-operative links with the Liaison Officers of other New Zealand Universities.

A member of the teaching team that delivered a summer school course on Social Media. This paper was taught in a paperless environment with the emphasis on trying to use Social Media tools to enhance learning. The class cohort was made up of students that were starting University to those completing their PhD's

Teaching Assistant

As a tour guide I was an ambassador for the University of Otago. I was often the first person spoken to on campus, the role is to provide positive reinforcement about studying at the University. I had to adapt to each group, answer questions honestly. Group sizes would range from one student to twenty in a group. The role of this position was to ensure that on completion of the tour the students and families were comfortable and happy in adding the University of Otago as a potential place to study.

My thesis is investigating the role of Social Media technologies has in the sharing of health information in these closed and open networks. It is investigating how and why users choose to share particular pieces of health information on these networks.

PhD Candidate

Part of the teaching team that taught a first year paper in the department of Information Science. The Paper, BSNS106, was/is part of the core curriculum in the BCom at the University of Otago thus every BCom student had to study this paper. I was involved in the compyter lab side of the paper. This involved delivering a quick presentation on the work that would be covered in the lab that session, then monitoring and ensuring students understood the tasks at hand. Lab groups ranged from 20 students to 60, with multiple sesisons a week. There was also a grading component to this paper.

Working with the Disability Information and Support team during the examination periods to ensure students with any disability where able to sit thier exams in conditions that would ensure that their disablity would not affect their exam. This role would have me working with individual students or with groups of upto 5 students.

Co-ordinator and main contact point for students undertaking a Post Graduate paper in Health Informatics. This was a distance taught paper, with students based across New Zealand. All students were already qualified medical practioners.

In this role I plan, prepare and facilitate sessions where I teach coaching techniques and NLP tools on a weekly basis to two groups. One group are doing the basic training to become coaches over 8 weeks and the other group are doing the advanced course to become NLP practitioners over 10 weeks. The size of the group ranges from 20 to 300. All sessions run by Zoom with participants from all over the world.

I was responsible to the Head of College in the effective and efficient provision of
a collegiate experience for the Residents and wider associated community. Core to this is the was the collaborative oversight of academic and student experience support. During periods on none occupancy of the College, I assisted with the promotion of the college facilities. Two major groups that I worked with during the off season were the Armed Offenders Squad training and the crew/cast/team filming Wolverine.

In this role I 
Developed an atmosphere of academic excellence in the College in a safe and effective

Provided academic and pastoral advice and mentoring to a College

pastoral and recruitment goals;
Maximised technology opportunities to meet the College’s needs – we were the first College at the University to provide a Wi-Fi solution for residents;
Adhered to all legislative requirements, including but not limited to Health and Safety
and Privacy legislation.

We ALL come to a CROSSROADS in our lives, but do we have the tools to cross that road?

Pushing people to think out of their box to see what they can achieve makes me buzz! 
Helping people shift their mindset is what gets me up everyday! I believe that with the correct mindset - in any shape or form, can change any individuals life.

17 years ago I was on track to becoming an academic, but when I think back about what I enjoyed, yes the research was fun and exciting BUT learning and watching how peoples mindsets worked in all facets from social, cultural and academic settings blew my mind. 

Working with young people over the last 13 years has shown me how the mindset we have and we are lead to believe we must have has shifted dramatically. . They have just needed a guide/mentor/a coach to show them this. These last 13 years have strengthened my skills from one on one communication to large scale group workshops. From dealing with tears and heartache to joy and happiness. 

Arming myself with the tools to be an E-DISC practioner, an NLP Master Prac, a MindsetRX Coach, Mindfulness trainer and years of experience working with people has allowed me to thrive.

I have honed in the tools to help the people I work with make that Crossroad  something they can tackle.

Everyone talks about Diwali like it’s a festival of lights.
But if you look closer… it’s really a masterclass in mindset.

Diwali isn’t about waiting for the darkness to disappear... it’s about choosing to light up anyway.

And isn’t that the same in life, leadership, and business?

The leader who brings optimism into a tough room....that’s Diwali.
The parent who keeps showing up even when it’s hard... that’s Diwali.
The creator who keeps putting out their truth despite the noise.... that’s Diwali.

We’ve all got shadows. But darkness isn’t the enemy, it’s the contrast that makes light meaningful.

This Diwali, stop waiting for the perfect moment to shine.
Light the match.
Take the risk.
Be the reason someone else feels hope again.

Because real light doesn’t just come from lamps, it comes from clarity, courage, and connection.

The Long Game.

That was the theme of Auckland University of Technology’s 2025 Professional Staff Navigate Conference and  BOOM!!! What a day... and what a  line up of speakers.

Each one brought something different… but the common thread?
Growth takes time.
 It’s not instant. It’s earned, tested, and lived.

Some take aways from me

Dame Valerie Adams: “The world only sees the results, but they don’t see what happens day to day to get there. Be comfortable being uncomfortable.”

A perfect reminder for me that the grind isn’t glamorous, but it’s where greatness is built.

Mike Jones: We’re all managing time every day… but how aware are we of how we manage it?

 A great time to reflect  that time management isn’t about calendars, it’s about consciousness.

Suzy Cato: Adults need to bring back play into our lives.

For so many of Kiwis who grew up with Suzy’s warmth on their screens, it wasn’t just nostalgia, it was truth. Somewhere along the way, we swapped curiosity for calendars. Suzy reminded us to bring joy back into the journey.

Chanel Finnigan: Got us thinking about what life looks like to and after retirement.

Such an important conversation we rarely have early enough.

Ben Hurley: Because nothing says “team spirit” like a mid-afternoon comedy gig that gives your abs a proper workout.

Erin Brown: Took it up a notch. Picture 280 adults doing Zumba in their work clothes. Joy, laughter, movement, all part of the learning.

 “It’s okay and really important to invest in yourself, whatever that looks like for you.”
Simple, powerful, necessary, because somewhere between looking after everyone else, we forget to look after ourselves.

Most people would rather wrestle a crocodile than speak in public.

Seriously...public speaking ranks right up there with spiders, heights, and… Monday mornings. (oh look it's Monday!)

Now picture this 

Take people who fear public speaking, put them in the right proximity, surround them with the right tools, the right support, the right energy and watch them evolve from “I hope my voice doesn’t shake” to:

 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗮 𝗸𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴.

On Sunday, I had the privilege of facilitating a one-day intensive on keynote mastery  for Speakers Institute and honestly, the techniques and frameworks are powerful…

But the real magic?

It was in the moments.

- Watching someone go from “this is my message” to “wait… THIS is my REAL message.”
- Seeing people step on our lilttle wee "stage", hearts racing and crafy each stage of the learning with courage and a growth mindset.
 - Witnessing aha moments explode across the room like fireworks.
 - Hearing stories that deserve to be told finally get spoken aloud.
 - Watching participants embrace feedback, allow themselves to be coached, and evolve in real time.

That’s the power of proximity.

That’s the power of stepping into your story, instead of running from it.

And this right here is Mindfluence in motion.

Inner narrative → external expression.
Belief → behaviour → breakthroughs.

When you shift the story inside, you shift the reality outside.

Becoming a keynote speaker isn’t really about learning how to speak.

It’s about learning how to be seen.

How to stand in your truth.
How to translate your lived experience into transformation for others.
How to serve, inspire, and move hearts not just deliver words.
Your voice can open doors your silence never will.

And if you’ve ever felt the pull to speak, not for ego, but for impact, listen to it.

Proximity has the power to turn fear into purpose, and purpose into platforms.

You're not an empath.... you're just codependent

Truly privileged and honoured to be a coach and facilitator for the latest Speakers Institute Boot Camp in Auckland.

This bootcamp isn't just about being a better speaker its about the power of story.

 The story that shapes who we are.
 The story we all carry.

Over 3 days, we watched 19 incredible humans transform, not because of just techniques or frameworks, but because they felt into their stories. And that changes everything.

𝗔 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲.

This time, I had a more active role. And as someone who’s been leaning deeply into being open and vulnerable, I want to share something real.

On Day 1, when I walked into the room to run the Room Captain session, my energy wasn’t where I wanted it to be.

Something felt off,  not visible to others, but I could feel it internally.
That night, I went home, reflected, and made a massive state shift.
 Because if we ask participants to play full out, then I needed to not just play full out, I needed to level it up.

Day 2.....Different energy. Different state.
I ran the Humour session, and this time I went in fully aligned, energy high, presence strong.

And I was proud of myself. Really proud.
The rest of the day was spent giving feedback, and I reminded myself that as a coach, you’re always playing for others to grow....so they can glow.

Day 3... Speaker prep.
The moments before stepping on stage are always charged.
Nerves. Stories we tell ourselves. Doubts that sneak in.
It’s a privilege to be the last voice participants hear before they step into their truth.

And when they did, all 19 of them, it was humbling, emotional, and powerful.

Why share this personal reflection??

Because on social media we often see the highlight reel, the smiles, the energy, the stage moments.

 But behind every photo is a story.

Not every day is 100% energy. And that’s okay.

What matters is being honest about it and choosing to realign, reflect, and rise. As Jessica Kiely puts it's take a moment to really smell yourself.... and this is exactly what I had to do after Day 1...

For years, I tried to find “work-life balance.”

Every podcast, every self-help book told me it was the secret.

But the truth?

Looking for this balance almost broke me.

Because balance implies you’re constantly juggling, trying to keep everything equal.

And that’s impossible when you’re building, growing, or leading.

I then heard someone say something that made me shift the way I was thinking...

Instead of asking, “How do I balance everything?”

I asked, “What feels aligned right now?”

Alignment doesn’t mean everything’s perfect, it means your actions, energy, and values point in the same direction.

 Since then, I’ve felt less guilt, less chaos, and a whole lot more peace.

 Are you chasing balance… or creating alignment?

Let’s talk neuroscience for a second.
Your brain isn’t wired for success.

It’s wired for safety.
That means when you try something new, launch a business, speak up, change careers, your brain doesn’t see growth, it sees danger.

 It releases cortisol, your body tenses, and your nervous system whispers, “Stay where it’s safe.”

But what happens if you change that story?
Safety doesn’t have to mean staying the same.

You can retrain your nervous system to see new challenges as safe.
Try this:
When you feel fear or resistance, pause and say out loud

 “𝗜’𝗺 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄.”

This one sentence can shift you from survival mode to growth mode.

What’s one “scary” thing you’re doing right now that’s actually growth in disguise?

You teach what you’ve had to learn.

The lessons that hit deepest are usually the ones we struggled with the most.

That’s why your story matters, because what broke you once is now your greatest source of empathy and impact.

Stop disqualifying yourself because you’re not “there yet.” You’re further along than someone who hasn’t started.

Your healing can be someone else’s roadmap.

What’s one lesson life taught you that you now share with others?

One of the modules I get to facilitate as part of Grit's Coaching Excellence programme is on NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)  and every time I teach it, I’m reminded of just how powerful its core principles are.

These ideas aren’t just for coaches or practitioners.

You don’t have to study NLP to understand them, because every single one of us can use them to view our world differently.

I love them because they also dovetail so well into my creation around Mindfluence... it’s not about controlling others, it’s about mastering yourself so that trust, empathy, and influence become contagious.

It's Mental Health Awareness Week here in New Zealand, and I want to start this week with a simple but powerful reminder...

𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.

We've come a long way in the conversation around mental wellbeing, but there's still work to do. 

Mental health isn't just about crisis moments. It's about the everyday, the stress we carry, the sleep we miss, the boundaries we struggle to set, and the conversations we're afraid to have.

This week, let's normalise these conversations. Let's check in on each other. And let's remember that asking for help isn't weakness, it's wisdom.

Let's talk about something we don't discuss enough.... mental health in the workplace.

We spend a huge portion of our lives at work. 

Our jobs can be sources of purpose, connection, and growth, but they can also be significant sources of stress, anxiety, and burnout.

And yet, many of us still feel like we have to hide our struggles. Like admitting we're overwhelmed is admitting we can't handle our job.

Here's what I wish more workplaces understood:

- Mental health support isn't a perk, it's essential. 
- Creating a culture where people can be honest about their wellbeing without fear isn't soft, it's smart leadership.
- When people feel safe to set boundaries, take mental health days, and ask for support, everyone benefits. Productivity improves. Creativity flourishes. People stay longer.

To anyone struggling right now, your worth isn't measured by your output. 

You're allowed to have limits. You're allowed to prioritise your wellbeing.

To leaders and managers, check in on your teams. 

Not just about deadlines, but about how they're actually doing. Create space for honest conversations.

Mental health at work matters. 

Let's keep pushing for cultures that recognise that.

For months, I sat in analysis paralysis, mapping, planning, strategising every move before I took it.

I thought clarity would come once everything made sense.

But the truth hit me one morning after a crazy CF session

Clarity doesn’t come before action. It comes from action.

Every step you take reveals the next one.

You don’t need to see the whole staircase, just the next step.

Since then, I’ve learned to stop myself from overthinking and look for those small forward steps that lead into movement.

Because movement creates momentum.

And momentum creates clarity.

What’s one thing you’ve been waiting to get “clear” on, that you could just start instead?

One of the core Mindfluence concepts is that the body keeps the score before the mind makes the story.

That’s why you sometimes meet someone and instantly like (or dislike) them, even when you can’t explain why.

That’s your neuroception at work, your nervous system scanning for safety.

Tone, energy, body language, it reads all of it before logic gets involved.

I caught up with Wee-Yeong Eyou the other day, one of those conversations that lingers long after it ends.

At first, I just smiled and nodded. But thoughtout the whole conversation my mind kept going back to that comment.. 

It really got me thinking. 

Every “yes” you give is a withdrawal from your time, your focus, your energy bank.

But when you start saying no, to distractions, to people-pleasing, to opportunities that aren’t aligned, something shifts.

Your “yes” starts to mean something again.

The most impactful leaders, creators, and changemakers aren’t the ones who do it all, they’re the ones who are clear about what deserves their yes.

Ask yourself today.. 
What do I need to start saying no to, so that my next yes creates real impact?

Midweek check-in...How are you really doing?

Not the "I'm fine, just busy" answer we give automatically. 

I mean really, how's your mind? How's your heart?

One thing I've learned about mental wellbeing is that it requires honest self assessment. 

And that's hard when we're conditioned to keep moving, keep producing, keep appearing like we have it all together.

Here's what I'm trying to practise, micro check-ins throughout the day.

"Am I holding tension in my body right now?" 
"When did I last take a proper break?" 
"What emotion am I actually feeling under this stress?"

These small moments of awareness don't solve everything, but they help me stay connected to myself rather than just running on autopilot until I crash.

Mental health isn't just about the big interventions. 

Sometimes it's about the tiny, consistent acts of self-awareness and self compassion.

So I'll ask again 

"𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆?"

There’s nothing wrong with comfort, it’s necessary.
But the danger lies in building a home there.
Comfort is a place to rest, not a place to live.

When's the last time you blamed your circumstances for your exhaustion? 

Your job? Your family demands? Your schedule? The economy? 

Now ask yourself this:... 
How many times did YOU say yes when you meant no? 
How many boundaries did YOU not set? 
How many times did YOU choose everyone else's comfort over your own survival? 

I'm not saying life isn't demanding. I'm not saying the pressure isn't real. 

I'm saying.... what if burnout isn't something that happens TO you?

What if it's something you participate in building? 

One yes at a time. In every area of your life. 

That's uncomfortable. 

But it's also the only thing that gives you the power to change it.
