Teal Around The World #TATW is a not-for-profit volunteer-driven gathering of like-minded individuals seeking better ways of working, better ecosystems of collaboration, and the emergence of integrity and wholeness at work. 

We are inspired by the work of Frederic Laloux in Reinventing Organisations, where he described 'Teal' as part of a spectrum of organisational evolution (after Spiral Dynamics). Teal is an embodiment of self-organization and alignment with purpose and values. 

As a Founding Partner and core organising team member my mission is to bring the awareness and practical implementation of this work to life through best-practice sharing, story telling and practical support for companies and society. 

We organise ourselves in a completely Teal way of working and it is wonderful to learn together with a wonderful team of passionate volunteers.

The ICP-ATF is one of two knowledge-based certifications on the Agile Coaching Track. It focuses primarily on the mindset and role of an agile team facilitator, while also providing group facilitation tools and techniques for effectively designing meetings and workshops that both engage the entire audience and drive towards agreed-upon outcomes. Through obtaining this certification, course participants will develop an appreciation for the art of facilitation as key to fostering collaboration and enabling self-organizing teams. In addition, participants will build their facilitator toolkits and gain experience facilitating specific agile practices most relevant to their organizational context.

Global Head, Scientific Communications - Oncology & Haematology

Led a large multi-functional team to support Global Product Strategy and Global Medical Affairs to be more efficient, compliant and effective.  The team included Procurement, Compliance and Financial Process professionals.  I was a member of the Global Pharma Procurement Leadership team and led a number of Innovation initiatives to transform the group and the way we worked to deliver greater impact to the organisation including exceeded savings targets, ensured 100% compliance and helped products launch more effectively.

Reporting to the Head of Global Oncology Marketing, this role focused on building a team to improve the way our pan-franchise activities were managed to deliver greater impact and effectiveness. Understanding the system.

A beehive is a complex organism with tens of thousands of individuals working together as a single organism. In the summer they can spread over a diameter of 10km and in the winter they compress to the size of a small football inside the hive. 

Many people have tried to understand the system of the hive and looked at it through different lenses. In the 1800s, Victorian naturalists described the hive as a strict hierarchy with the Queen in charge at the top. This lens reflected their world view with Victoria as the Queen of a vast Commonwealth. This illustration below, by George Cruickshank is a satirical view using a beehive as a metaphor for Victorian society. It is reproduced by permission of the British Library and is explained in Chapter 1 of Bee Wise.

Today we look at a hive with a different lens - the Queen is described as more of a ‘servant leader’ who supports the needs of the whole organism. She doesn't ‘control’ all the bees but she plays a part in creating the right environment for them to flourish

In March we will be running the Systemic Team Coaching Certificate program in Basel with John Leary-Joyce@ and David Kesby PCC EIA ESIA where we will look at teams through different lenses. 

- What lens are you using to look at your team or business?
- Are you aware of any bias in how you are doing that?
- How ‘wide’ is your view - does it include perspectives of customers and competitors?

An experienced team coach may help to broaden and deepen your view.

Hive Day is almost Valentine's Day.
Let's talk about sex, baby. (With apologies to Salt n’Pepa, circa 1990)

A virgin Queen bee will only make one flight in her life (unless she leaves with a swarm), called her honeymoon flight. She flies in a circle close to her
hive in late spring. Male drones from her own hive or other hives will
follow her, and she may mate with more than one drone while flying.
The young Queen’s eggs are not fertilised straight away. She will store
up to six million sperm from multiple drones in her spermatheca. When
safely back in the hive, she will selectively release sperm to fertilise eggs
for the remainder of her life. She may lay up to 1,000 eggs per day. Those eggs that are fertilised become the female worker bees. Unfertilised eggs become the male drones. The male bees are therefore haploid, meaning they only have the genes possessed by the queen.

The role of the male drones is only to fertilise the Queen. They cannot even feed themselves and are entirely reliant on the female worker bees to survive. At the end of the summer, when they are no longer needed, they are starved to death and their bodies are pushed out the front of the hive.
