I graduated from United States Naval Academy in 2011 with a B.S. in Political Science with a focus on International Relations. Following the Academy I went on to serve nine years as a Navy Pilot.  I held a variety of roles in Operations, Intelligence, and Future Officer Development. From the Navy I learned team leadership and discipline, and I am passionate about achieving success! Right now, I am leading the innovate team at Systematic Business Consulting. We are a veteran owned and veteran operated company that has become one of the largest direct hire recruiting agencies in the manufacturing market. Matt Shumer's "Something Big Is Happening" just crossed 40 million views. Everyone's sharing it. Fortune reprinted it. And he's right, something big IS happening.

But Matt's writing from the perspective of someone building AI. I've spent four years implementing it inside hundreds of real businesses. And what I see in the field tells a different story than "if your job happens on a screen, AI is coming for it."

Here's the pattern I see in every single implementation, without exception:
AI handles 80% of most jobs brilliantly. The data analysis, the first drafts, the scheduling, the compliance docs. It's incredible at this stuff.

It's that last 20%, the core competency you actually hired someone for, where everything falls apart.

And that 20% was always the valuable part. We just spent all our time on the 80% because we had to.

AI isn't replacing human intelligence. It's revealing what human intelligence actually is, by handling everything it isn't.
