I met an AI SEO expert in Barcelona last week. Now I’m rethinking everything I know about visibility online.

Quick shoutout to Tanya Van Gastel, who broke it down at her Founder Hang event. AI search is now the discovery channel where brands either show up or vanish.

For twenty years, Google ruled attention. You wanted clicks, you optimised for blue links. Then generative AI showed up and said, “Forget links, let’s talk.”

Now people don’t search. They ask:
“What’s the best CRM for freelancers under $100?”
“Which project management tool keeps my team from losing its mind?”

And those questions aren’t going to Google. They’re going to ChatGPT, Claude, or Google’s AI Overview.

According to a University of Virginia study Tanya shared, 60% of consumers now use AI tools when deciding what to buy, and many trust AI more than their friends.
