I served as a dedicated internal performance coach to the enterprise sales teams of LinkedIn's largest line of business accounting for over $500m in revenue. 

Leveraging a unique multi-disciplinary approach steeped in change management and design thinking, I partnered with the business to define and address systemic challenges. It’s been lovingly called “emotional intelligence on steroids”.

This approach is both unconventional and highly practical, built on emerging science which reveals how human connection is the cornerstone of meaningful growth and adaptability.

My background is rooted in organizational psychology and somatic coaching, and I push the boundaries of these fields by integrating cutting-edge insights from applied neurology, developmental neuropsychology, complexity theory, and interpersonal neurobiology.

If tech companies can get you to build a habit of checking your phone 143 times a day, you can definitely train yourself to get into the habits that align with your values.

You just have understand the behavior change secret that they understand: friction.

And that you can learn how to work *with* friction, and stop spinning your wheels by trying to counter it with motivation.

Because (for the bajillionth time) behavior change is NOT a question of mindset alone. It’s a *nervous system* thang.

If you’ve worked in tech, you for sure know the lore about how companies make you scroll for longer (even when you know it makes you feel like poop) and buy more (even when you promised your spouse there would be no more impulse buys this month).

Task takes one extra click = Drop-off. Button color more pleasing to the eye = Conversions skyrocket.

Same same with human beans.

Just that our interface isn’t a screen — it’s a mind-bogglingly advanced network of cellular cabling, aka nervous system.

I know for dang sho I was taught I needed to brute-force change. To push harder, whip myself, and call it discipline. (Then ego-bask in the complements about my consistency at the gym.) 

But if we want healthy, sustained change instead of cycles of spurts that drain our energy…

…the system underneath doesn’t care about your pep talk and will only harden as you push past your inner signals.

Because your nervous system prioritized one thing above all: *safety*.

If you want to start exercising, the game isn’t to try harder. Become more attuned to the emotional friction. Make the transition from rest to movement be experienced by the body as less threatening, less transactional, more devotional. (More about how I do this when I reallyyy don’t feel like hitting the gym in a future post.)

And if you want to stop doomscrolling, raise the friction. Put your phone in a fixed location in another room — what Sara Francis calls the “landline” move. I like to use an app blocker, too, for good measure. 

That little bit of additional effort it takes to use your mobile dopamine dispenser, I mean phone, gives you the space you need to make more a aligned choice in a moment of craving.

And, for the record, doing these things doesn’t mean you lack discipline. It means you understand how your brain actually works and you’re being smart about conserving your willpower for what matters most.

Because every ounce of attention and energy you waste fighting yourself is energy you could put toward your mission.

Designers call this stuff behavioral architecture. 

For our purposes, let’s just call it working with the nervous system.

So, question. When’s the last time you massaged your feet?

Oh, is it?

Look: our brain doesn’t float in a jar of logic. It sits in a body full of sensors.

(You may have noticed this thread running throughout my posts.)

Your feet alone have about 200,000 nerve endings. 

200,000 live inputs feeding your system real-time updates about stability and safety.

So when you're depriving that channel of sensory input, you’re depriving your brain of essential information it needs to function optimally.

Less clarity down there equals more tension and confusion up top.

While you’re trying to “think” your way through your workday, your body’s there signaling, “Hey bud, this is urgent. I’ve lost signal from down there.”

Touch, movement, and grounding don’t just relax you. They feed your nervous system better data, which means clearer thinking, steadier emotions, and sharper decisions.

This is why walking barefoot on grass or sand feels so calming; it’s your nervous system finally getting a complete signal.
