The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST)

From a seafaring family, 10 years service onboard ships & 18 years in shore-based management roles, I have made impactful contributions to the maritime industry. In 2012, I was elected Hon Secretary of the IMarEST UAE branch. Since then, I have turned around the hitherto moribund UAE branch, making it the regional benchmark for expertise in cutting edge marine technology. During my ‘watch’, purely on a pro bono basis, I have single-handedly organized & compered 75 technical seminars, with topics in the hour of need e.g the marine environment, regulations, innovations in marine engineering, digital technology, satellite communication & cyber security. In 2019, 11 meetings I organized were attended by 1330 regional maritime professionals. In 2020, I facilitated 2  physical meetings & 6 global webinars. In total 1382 delegates benefited from lessons learnt & industry best practices. As the acclaimed 'face' of IMarEST in the Middle East, I am a familiar speaker in international maritime conferences. As an advocate for maritime professionals, I represented the Middle East in July 2020 at the IMarEST global Annual Conference as one of 65 speakers in the virtual event highlighting the buoyant regional maritime activities. In bringing my forthright & engaging style to events, resetting the cadence through establishing knowledge sharing & learning opportunities that are given primary focus in an ambience of fun and a spirit of camaraderie, where each person who attends truly feels like they are part of the marine team. My genuine approach has gained tangible recognition with letters of appreciation from IMarEST stakeholders, endorsing the valued work undertaken by me. In recognition of my exemplary contribution to the promotion of the maritime industry, in 2017 I received the IMarEST President’s Commendation Award & was selected in 2018 to be the global Marine Ambassador for the Institute at its inaugural Outstanding Contribution Awards in London.

As the BDM for Harris Pye Engineering reporting to the BoD, I am responsible for promoting HP’s boiler repair and green technology turnkey solutions e.g. Low Sulphur conversions, Ballast Water systems, Exhaust Gas Scrubbing and Heat Exchangers, in the Middle East & India.
Founded in 1976, HP has a team of 1700 based in 17 facilities globally providing engineering & project management services to the marine, offshore & industrial sectors. From specialist workshops, these manufacturing processes are carried out in-house to the highest standards to help clients comply with IMO regulations and exercise best industry practice for low environment impact.

Business Development Manager

Radio Holland Middle East

In charge of setting the commercial strategy, goals and objectives, budgets and commercial targets in alignment with the Group’s strategic direction for the short and long term. Responsible for driving development of Radio Holland’s navigation and maritime communication business in the Middle East, Africa & Indian subcontinent, predominately in its growth through new profitable commercial agreements and the deployment of new territories, whilst also ensuring all operations meet the expectations of relevant stakeholders and the top management of the Group.

From Jan 2014, appointed Principal Consultant for the merged DNV GL Maritime Advisory Middle East.
DNV GL Maritime Advisory is specialized in impartial maritime consultancy & advanced engineering services, with a focus on enhancing ship energy efficiency, both in design & operation. The experienced staff have leading technological expertise across all ship segments & help ship owners, operators, yards & designers globally, to improve fuel efficiency, minimize environmental impact & increase profitability. 

Project Manager/Team member in projects - Noise Prediction, Ballast Water Management, Ship Energy Efficiency, Technical due-diligence to support fleet acquisition, development of ISM SMS & Ship Energy audits.

From April 2011 until Dec 2013, as Business Development Manager for the Middle East & Africa, I was responsible for promoting DNV GL classification services with a particular emphasis on ship energy efficiency & environmental issues.

My job involved providing the client (Offshore vessel owners + builders) with the optimum ship design for any specific operation. We provided ship designs, equipment packages and project management to the international market with an emphasis on offshore, heavy offshore and short sea shipping. I acted as the liaison between our shipbuilding yard & design/engineering personnel and ship owners in the Middle East & India.
In addition, at Ulstein Middle East, I was responsible for marketing Allweiler pumps; Brude Safety equipment; West Marine cranes, davits, STP & OWS; Helseth propulsion systems; Eltorque valve actuators & Hyundai engines.

Responsible for representation of international principals.
Territory included the Middle East &amp; India.

I was responsible for providing comprehensive solutions for marine navigation, communication & automation control systems from several international principals e.g. Kongsberg, Zenitel, Simrad & Kockum Sonics.

Marine engineer onboard ships, 1993 to 2003, with:
•	AP Moller Singapore (Maersk Line).
•	Anglo Eastern Ship Management, Hong Kong.
•	Kishinchand Chellaram Maritime Agency, Hong Kong.

Served up to Chief Engineer, onboard a variety of ships, which ranged from Dry Bulk Carriers, Containers, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Carriers & Car Carriers.

Highly-motivated and result oriented professional within the maritime industry with a proven track record of providing exemplary post-sales support to a broad range of clients including ship owners, managers, and ship yards. Through a combination of deep technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and by networking within the industry, including as Honorary Secretary of the IMarEST UAE branch, I have developed deep relationships with key industry stakeholders. Interested in utilizing my unique combination of hands-on marine engineering and commercial experience to develop the local strategy and significantly grow the business at a company providing marine technical services/products in Dubai.
