•	Strategic marketing audit of a multi-million pounds budget across all media channels including digital (PPC, SEO, social), above the line (TV/outdoor) & customer comms (email, reviews).

•	Marketing fundamentals – delivered market leading brand health tracking, independent media audit & created enhanced brand/commercial governance.

Interim Marketing Lead

•	Matrixed operations reporting to two Boards, accountable for all brand & marketing KPIs & becoming the most senior marketeer in the General Insurance business.

•	Brand strategy – setting the definition & execution of the marketing strategy for this top UK business. Helping to deliver sales growth of 900%, moving up to 3rd position in the market (with the best YouGov brand scores) despite being the 9th largest spender.

•	Campaign delivery - Fully accountable for a £20m+ marketing budget to deliver brand health & commercial sales targets across the full marketing mix including TV strategy (& TV shoots), digital (SEO, social, display, affiliates, content), radio, press, direct mail, OOH & email. This was all measured & evaluated through market leading econometric modelling.

•	Leading teams through a period of transformational change & the onboarding of emerging digital trends, owning the over-arching marketing strategy & brand health for both acquisition & existing market segments (customer centric improvements in retention, loyalty & cross selling). 

•	Agency management - After leading & sponsoring a media audit & full agency review, achieved a £1m+ improvement in buying performance which also improved sales delivery.

•	Marketing performance - As a result of my final campaign, LV= achieved award winning results due to the delivery of record sales levels (198% website sales vs. prior year), the highest ever ‘LV’ Google search volume & an improvement in organic search ranking from 12th to 1st position

After many years sitting on executive teams and experience of holding the most senior brand and marketing roles with accountability for multi million pound marketing budgets, I transitioned from the corporate world to share my experiences of building sustainable success with a wider audience.

I’ve rewritten the true tagline of the John Lewis ad - “If you can’t be emotionally available, spend money.”

I know I’m in the minority with my reflections of this ad. It’s certainly clever, emotive, beautifully shot and serving a purpose to encourage us to consume more. 

So let me set some context. For many years, I was involved in making TV adverts. I worked in high profile corporate marketing before shifting into sustainable business and now, trauma-informed coaching.

And I’m also a parent to two teenage boys.

So I have some lived experience and understanding about how the advertising world works.

In the ad, the dad seems lost, preoccupied and maybe burnt out.

The boy looks anxious how his gift will be received.

The setting is a perfect middle class home - polished, pressured (and to me), disconnected and uneasy. 

And if I'm honest, it feels familiar. I’ve lived parts of this life. The masking of inner wounds to appear ‘successful’, the child wanting to be seen and the parent too frazzled to notice.

That’s why it stayed with me.

Because love isn’t about spending, it’s about presence. 

Advertising knows how to play with that truth. It tugs at our longing, then offers something to buy.

But if you look at most data relating to our 'love languages', receiving gifts generally comes much lower down the list compared to quality time, physical touch and acts of service.

So if you can’t find the words this Christmas, you don’t need to shop for a gift. 

You just need to slow down and reconnect with what and who you love.

We’re not looking for gifts. We’re looking for presence. 🙏
