I reached 10,000 followers yesterday.

Instead of celebrating online, I took the day to rest.

It reminded me of climbing a steep hill: you don’t immediately sprint toward the next one. 

You stop. 
You hydrate. 
You take in the view.

Because that pause is what makes the next climb possible.

Here’s what that year-long climb taught me:

1️⃣Finding your voice takes time.
Clarity doesn’t come before action. It comes because of it.

2️⃣Imposter syndrome doesn’t disappear.
People will judge you. Keep going anyway—courage moves you forward, and confidence grows with repetition.

3️⃣Be in rooms where people are doing what you want to learn.
The right seats stretch you faster and change what you believe is possible.

4️⃣ Learn to tell your story
It’s how you connect with people, inspire change, and move ideas forward.

5️⃣ Personal branding isn’t just LinkedIn.
Create opportunities to showcase your skills and meet people face-to-face.

6️⃣ The world needs more nerds with voices.
Imagine if more engineers and STEM leaders shared what they know and modeled what’s possible. We need you.

7️⃣ Consistency builds trust.
Systems and discipline make consistency possible.

8️⃣ Give yourself grace.
Your content won’t be good at first. Jump in anyway. Iterate. Improve.

1️⃣ Create focused measures

Start with the critical few — not the critical many.

Identify 2–3 metrics that define:

Pair leading indicators (early warning signals) with lagging indicators (results).

2️⃣ Establish action triggers

For each metric, define what “off track” looks like and what action the organization should take to get back on track.

Avoid defaulting to “review.” 

Make the response specific and action-oriented so the team can move immediately without waiting for leadership direction.

3️⃣ Build an operating rhythm

Metrics only matter if they live inside an operating rhythm.

They must show up in:
↳ weekly meetings
↳ monthly reviews
↳ priority decisions
↳ everyday conversations

Make performance impossible to ignore and use metrics to objectively drive the behaviors you want.

You can come up with a million reasons not to start.

And most of them are valid.

The real problem is not starting because you can’t fly (yet).

No one starts by flying.
They start by starting.

You crawl. Then you learn to walk. Then you run. Then you fly.
There are no shortcuts.

Priorities are like logs in a stream.

Too many of them block the flow.

When there are one or two logs, the water moves easily. 
Keep stacking on logs, and eventually you create a log jam.

Every new priority.
Every “quick ask.”
Every project that gets started but not finished.

They all become logs in the stream.

When people try to work on everything at once, context switching takes over.

Productivity drops, errors increase, and mental fatigue sets in.

The result?

Work piles up, quality slips, and people burn out.

If your team feels stretched, with progress not matching the effort, don’t ask who’s underperforming.

Ask: How many logs are in the stream?

Then establish your organization’s capacity and set a clear work-in-progress limit.

Recently, a colleague asked me if it was worth it.

Yes.

Two years ago, I started my LinkedIn journey after it was recommended by my career counselor at UNC Chapel Hill. 

At the time, I felt stuck in my career — up against a glass ceiling and completely burnt out. I was at a major turning point in both my career and my life.

I stopped relying on other people to tell my story and started listening to my advisors. 

I joined a creator accelerator, invested heavily in intentionally shaping my network, and began posting daily about my experiences leading change, executing strategy, and helping organizations grow.

It felt uncomfortable at first. It definitely turned heads.
