1. We strategized hard on offer

Don't just say - I offer X therefore I need to say 'I offer X' in my email.



For example, if you do lead generation, could you frame your approach as:

- templates the prospect can use
- a customized audit of their current system
- a free batch of 100 leads for lookalike accounts
- etc.


2. Short emails.

Keep them short, ideally under 100 words.



3. Write carefully


Think about the psychological element of your copy - are you writing 'cool'-type language to senior professionals at traditional industries? Not a good idea.

1. Make your emails about the prospect, not about you.


I still see so many cold emails that are 95% feature pitching.

You need to frame what you do around the prospect



2. Stop worrying about irrelevant metrics


I still see so many people basing the success of their campaigns on open rates or reply rates

The only rate that matters is % of TAM to conversion rate. 



3. Hit volume



Gone are the days of 1 meeting per 100 emails sent (long gone).

For cold prospects, you should aim to be targeting at least 3k leads per month (at the minimum).

Here's how I booked 5 meetings in 1 week.

1. Get a strong handle on what your ICP wants

- Don't just think about what they care about or what 'KPI they have' - think about what bothers them, what drives their daily thoughts at work


2. Ensure a properly targeted list

Apollo.io is a great starting place, but don't just use an industry and be done with it.

Be sure to use keywords - include AND exclude - to really narrow down your list.


3. Think carefully about how you frame your messages

- 'We offer leads'
- 'We'll give you a script that give you 7 more meetings by next month'
- 'You can copy our system to double your reply rates'

All different ways to offering the same kind of services. Think about framing.


4. Reply quickly.

When a positive lead responds, don't hang about lad.

Reply ideally within 5 minutes.

The most slept on part of your cold email.


Christian Plascencia recently wrote a post mentioning preview text over AI personalized line.

He was wrong.

Not to have shared that post with you sooner because he's absolutely right.

See what I did there (i don't get paid for this).



When someone sees your email in their inbox (congrats already btw), they will see a preview of your first line.

This is why you want it to pattern break - don't have a boring, generic salesy sentence.

'I noticed you're hiring...'

'Are you looking for...'

'Hope this email finds you well...'

gross.


But its not just so that they open the email.

It's to anchor them psychologically.


If they go into it like 'eurgh sales email' you're on the back foot.

If they go into it like 'oh, what's this about...'

Their brain is more open to an idea.

Hard truths about LinkedIn


- growing your following won't equal a good business

- 75% of the offers that come your way via LinkedIn is garbage

- not everyone is going to become Justin Welsh just with 'consistency'

- decide early if you want to be a business person or an influencer (i understand the overlap)

- that 25% that isn't garbage can change your career

- LinkedIn can serve as a useful tool in your marketing arsenal if you understand its place

- if you want to be a great business person, you'll understand that the network power on LinkedIn is far more pivotal than the vanity metrics

How I got 19 meetings in 2 weeks for a client.

Without any prospect personalization.


You've heard it by now.

Relevance > personalisation.


This isn't new anymore - let's stop banging the drum.


But what should that look like you ole bean?

Let me tell you.


1. Relevancy can be thought of as 'account personalization'.

In other words, its personal or specific to the company.

This is better than if its just personal to the industry - which is also good, but this is deeper.

E.g. 'I saw you guys recently worked with Burger King, which I thought would be relevant seeing as my company sells Chicken Fries'


2. Think laterally

If you can add a touch of account relevance which others may not think of, it can make a big difference.


For example:

'I noticed you live in Chicago, I was there last week!' - CRAP.

'Not sure if you need someone to relocate to Chicago, but we can do that' - GOOD

Both using the same personalized variable, but one is used in a cringey way to the prospect, the other is used to create a relevant point personal to the account.


3. Specificity of OFFER

Can you make the email feel like you're doing something for them vs you're doing something for lots of clients and want them to consider it?

How I booked 40+ meetings in 4 months.

With 1 concept.

'Incentive'.



Personalization, Triggers, Clever Copy, Automation...



None of it matters if you aren't giving the prospect an incentive to move forward with you.

Incentive simply means:

'Is it worth it for them?'



Bear in mind that nobody and I mean NOBODY wants to give their time anymore,

So read your email and really ask yourself..

Is it *WORTH* it for them?



Incentive usually means:

- Solves a problem that few others are offering to solve (less likely)

- Solves a problem that few others are offering to solve like you can

- Provides some benefit that the prospect *cares about*




Yes - CARES ABOUT.

Don't add bells and whistles thinking that  'more' automatically means 'no-brainer' offer.




Finally, reduce the risk.

In the email, you're not selling the product or service.

You're selling the meeting.



That's what you need to reduce the risk for.

Huge potential upside to *turning up*, very little risk if it's not great.

This can be by reducing the time of the call, offering them something to walk away with at the end regardless etc.

And 2 tips to fix it.



If you find that one month you get leads, and the next you get nothing.

It's probably because you're lacking a system.

And instead, relying on referrals or organic content.



If you want to have more control over your numbers, create a system.

Ideally with 2-3 lead gen channels.



Example:

1. Content (long-term, brand play, not reliable until scaled)

2. Manual, reliable outreach (LinkedIn outreach, cold calling)

3. Automated system running in back (cold email, ads)



Never turn off the lead gen tap, ever.

How I delivered 38 warm leads in 1 month.

For a client without a clear ICP.


A SaaS client came to me without a sure understanding of who their ICP was.

They had a mixed bag of customers that had signed up.

So for campaign 1, I ran tests.


Initially, we picked the 3 most common ICPs from the their customer base.

Created segmented messaging for each, and A/B testing across them.


At the end of month, it was clear.

2 segments didn't budge, 1 loved it.


Campaign 2 we doubled down on that segment and lo and behold, the positive replies started rolling.

They wanted sign ups from the leads, and more than 50% did.


In case you hadn't got it, the lesson here is - always be testing.

1. Weak incentive

Sometimes people agree to a meeting because they're vaguely interested, but they're not compelled.

To compel them

- Strong social proof 

- Separate *reason* for the meeting


2. Not enough reminders

Most people have a reminder that goes out once before a call.

I usually send one at least every other day.

Annoying - but they don't forget.


3. Post-book nurture

When the meeting is booked, don't just stop there.

You want to continue providing them with new information and value around your company and offer.

This could automated emails with videos and more testimonials, for example.
