As you probably already know, I’m first and foremost a follower of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If you’re wondering why I include that in my professional introductions, it’s because my faith and relationship with God drives every other area of my life, including business. I’m a husband to Colleen and a father to Cam. You can’t win in business if you’re not first winning at home. I’m Jax, Florida-raised but Cincinnati is my home. I believe God has us here for very specific reasons. Reasons beyond just business. Thus far, my professional career is one of two paths; corporate finance and commercial real estate entrepreneurship. My corporate career came to a sudden halt on New Years Day 2022, the day after my wedding, after I was fired for electing not to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. I don’t love including this part, but it served as a crucial turning point in my life and career. It was real life experience of standing firm on my God-given convictions even while society, mentors, peers, family members and finances advised otherwise. And I learned to trust God when the future was wildly unclear. I mean, day one of my marriage I became jobless and income-less, for goodness sake! Day one of being jobless was not only terrifying, but strangely the most freedom and peace I’ve ever experienced. The future had no ceiling. This is where Ten27 Group started to really take shape with my brother, Kevin. I’ve always had an affinity for real estate. When I was young, my favorite things to draw were city skylines, sports stadiums and mansion homes. I dreamed of one day building these skyscrapers myself. This is why Kevin and I began buying up small multifamily properties in Cincinnati in 2020, it was the only way we knew how to get involved. We also knew it was a great investment and a fun one (most of the time). But we never anticipated it becoming more than simply a side gig. But after Kevin quit his job and I got fired from mine, things quickly changed. While Ten27 isn’t changing the landscape of city skylines (YET), we are buying, building and operating commercial multifamily and mixed-used real estate. Our focus is on Midwest markets such as Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton. We pride ourselves on being faithful stewards of the communities in which we invest. A couple months ago I shared my Bible reading method. 

Slowww and steadyyy approach. 

I referenced Colossians, a relatively shorter book, which took me something like three or four months to work through.

I’ve subscribed to that slow and steady fashion of exploring the scriptures for years. I just love to sit in the Word. 

Well, in a shocking plot twist, I started the The Navigators Bible Reading Plan earlier this month, which is a Bible-in-a-year plan. I simply felt convicted to change things up. 

I’m already days behind 😂 I guess I need to break some old habits. But admittedly, I knew this would happen. 

The encouraging thing - it’s not about speed! Who am I trying to impress by reading the entire Bible in a year??

It’s about relationship. Listening. Learning. Changing. The Lord is in no rush, so I’m in no rush either. I’ll finish when I finish. 

All that said, this new plan has been SO good. OT mixed with NT and Gospel book mixed with wisdom literature, everyday! AND, John Piper/Desiring God endorsed. 

As I said, there’s a season for everything. Including your Bible reading strategy.

Perhaps one of the greatest gifts to any man, but especially to the man journeying the wilderness of entrepreneurship

Isn’t mentorship 
Or an inheritance 
Or competence 

It’s a good and Godly wife. 

These aren’t common. At least not in today’s culture, and maybe not ever. 

Proverbs 31:10 says this wife is far more valuable than rubies, more precious than jewels. 

Verse 26 says she opens her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. 

Just a few days ago, I ran a thought by my wife. A hypothetical thought, but admittedly one filled with doubt, confusion and frustration. One of those “what if I did xyz?” questions where you act like you’re asking for fun but you’re 100% serious…

Well, I posed one of those questions to my wife, and she knew it wasn’t just a fun, hypothetical. She could see it was deeper. 

Her response; “that sounds straight from the enemy.” 

She knows me, and she sees my relationship with the Lord everyday. So when I say something that either doesn’t align with God’s Word or doesn’t align with what God has told me/us in the past, she snipes it. 

That’s wisdom. And frankly, it’s wisdom you can’t get from a mentor, YouTube, books or podcasts. Because none of those things know you and your relationship with the Lord like a wife does. 

A good and Godly wife is precious for many, many other reaons, but certainly don’t neglect seeking her wisdom on your journey. 

I’m sure this works the other way around too - a good and Godly husband for an entrepreneur wife. But I can only speak from experience.

I’ve been searching for a community catered towards entrepreneurs and builders leaning on their faith to do great things in our city. 

I remember running an idea like this by Tim Metzner awhile back. That’s when I learned about Unpolished (shoutout to the original team!).

Please don’t think of this as just another networking event. Yes, there will be great networking! But it has the potential to be much more than that - a movement that sparks actual change rooted in bringing the Lord front and center as we build, create and serve Cincinnati.
