Nearly 22 years of progressive management responsibilities within Avitus Group beginning with Director of Occupational Safety and Risk Management/Underwriting to my present position within the company. Currently, I am the Vice President of Risk Management reporting to the President of Avitus Group.

I am responsible for Risk Management, Occupational Safety & Health, and worker's compensation insurance management including  underwriting, claims and policies. I'm also responsible for recommendations for clients continued retention.

Avitus Group has more than 32,000 employees at more than 1,600 worksite locations in more than 84 diverse industries in more than 41 states. Responsibilities include supervisory and field management of all matters relating to risk management, occupational safety, worker’s compensation policies and claims. I am also responsible for research, development and implementation of various company initiatives to enhance our services to clients.

My "specialty" is integrating effective and positive staff management and loss prevention management techniques to provide a broad range of high quality services to businesses in diverse industries and at physical locations around the USA.

I was the Director of Safety & Fire Chief for a 400+-acre youth residential treatment campus plus other community locations in Montana for youth. I was responsible for ensuring the safety of approximately 140 residents and 120 staff members. This was for both occupational safety and health and for public safety. I was also responsible for worker’s compensation policies, related risk retention and effective loss prevention. In a little over 5 years we reduced worker’s compensation premiums from $135K/year to $32K/year through positive and effective loss prevention and cost containment programs.

The campus had a small incorporated fire department and as Chief I was responsible for training firemen and responding to fire and EMS emergencies on campus and for responding to mutual aid situations with other fire departments in the County.

Yellowstone was recognized as being nationally on the forefront of youth organizations and associated professions. Included within the YTC organizations was the Yellowstone Resource Center (YRC). In conjunction with YRC, I gave presentations and 2-day workshops in various areas of the country on occupational safety and resident/patient safety in similar organizations. A copy of the 120 page guide I wrote to accompany the workshops was published and a copy is in the Library of Congress.  I have written and had published in national trade magazines articles related to occupational safety and effective worker’s compensation loss prevention programs.

I've "discovered" that I really, really miss the challenge of helping businesses intergrate successful occupational safety with effective cost containment workers compensation insurance and claims programs.

So, I've been taking on a selective few clients for short-term and longer-term consulting. IF they are genuinely interested in adopting successful cost effective programs designed specifically for them.

Yes, you really can save serious money on worker's competition premiums if you plan for now AND the future. But it doesn't happen overnight.

Update 1/9/2021:
Today is my first full day of retirement.

After some timeoff, I might think about doing some occasional consulting work.

In warmer weather I'll get out and about doing my photography of course and camping and fishing. I haven't been fishing in at least 35 years.

This is a new chapter in my life and it's an exciting (and scary at the same) time. I've always had a job since I was 11.

My responsibilities include overall risk management, training, injury and loss prevention and regulatory compliance.
