Building this specialist function is the reason that I joined 3Search in 2016. Having worked in marketing recruitment for several years and being exposed to each of these channels, I recognised that more could be done to support businesses looking to hire these skillsets. I could see that generalist marketing recruiters were not providing the right level of customer service to either clients or candidates.

Employers need access to better connected, more knowledgeable recruiters and I am proud to say that this is what we have created here at 3Search.

My main motivator in my career has always been about helping people solve their problems. Whether this is helping people develop their careers or make an addition to their business, I find it really gratifying to make a difference in somebody’s life.

The same can be said about my role as a manager. It's been rewarding to see my team progress in their careers, developing from graduate recruitment consultants into market leading specialists.

This idea has been swirling around in my head for a while now, but it was great to see it come to life this week 💡

On Wednesday, Harrison Knowles and I hosted an intimate roundtable for a new community here at 3Search. The Founder Facing Leadership community is exactly what it says on the tin - a community for those reporting directly into Founders or CEO's 🔝

We were fortunate enough to have 15 members join us for a healthy discussion on what it is like to work in this environment and the typical challenges they face...

The themes that came up in the room were consistent across very different businesses. North Star KPIs evolving in real time as expectations shift – from growth, to efficiency, to profitability, and sometimes back again. Managing founder dynamics and stakeholder complexity as companies scale – not just doing the work, but aligning the organisation behind it. The shift from founder-led to investor-led brands, and how that changes scrutiny, budget allocation and remit. The impact of AI on creative output and testing. Then the bigger question sitting underneath all of it – what does a “world-class” marketing team look like in 2026

One of the biggest challenges since stepping into my Customer Director role?

Getting feedback from clients 🙅🏻‍♂️

Not negative feedback.
Not complaints.

Just… feedback.

When I moved into this role, I was ready for tough conversations 🥽

I was ready to fix problems 👷🏻‍♀️
I was ready to improve processes 🧱

What I wasn’t prepared for was how hard it can be to get people to actually tell you what they think 🤔

Because most clients are polite.
Most are busy.
Most don’t want to “cause a fuss.”

And in recruitment especially, if a process feels slightly clunky or communication drops for a moment, clients often… adapt.

I'm always grateful for any feedback we receive. If we don’t know, we can’t improve. Customer experience isn’t built on assumptions.

It’s built on insight.

So if you’re a client reading, please remember this:

We genuinely want to hear it. The good, the frustrating, the “this could be better.”

If you’d asked someone 3 years ago what that was, most people wouldn’t have had a clue.

Fast forward to 2026… and it’s one of the most in-demand roles we’re recruiting at 3Search for our clients
