I pivoted from doing BD at Udemy to doing long-term horizon partnerships at Coursera by centering my narrative on my extensive background in Asia. 

I was brought in to run all partnerships in Asia. Over time, I expanded my scope to include European and American accounts. These intentional role adjustments increased my optionality and allowed me to be regional-agnostic. I leveraged my (literally) universal sales experience to take on bigger and bigger partnerships. 

I joined Coursera in Series C when the focus was on new revenue channels, and shifting to B2B and higher-ticket learning experiences.

Here are my highlights: 

⭐️ Managed pipeline of top-ranked global university partners: sourced content that will drive ~$X0M in revenue over first five years by presenting executive stakeholders with data-backed value propositions

⭐️ Sourced Certificate program from the University of Chicago: developed champion at the university; worked cross-functionally with marketing team to identify product-market fit 

⭐️ Sourced Russia’s first online degree from top-tier university: rallied engineering, legal, and marketing to prioritize program despite complex terms

🚀 Oversaw global portfolio of 15 accounts: drove revenue through partnership with Singaporean government by building localization strategy, increasing content volume, and managing local operations team

The role quickly evolved to include curriculum development and working very closely with the Beijing team to build VIPKid's biggest asset: a high-quality learning experience.

Have you ever tried to teach a bunch of third graders in a mountainside village while the power is out and while a few of them are trying to put a leash on a beetle? 🪲

No? Well, I'll save you the plane ticket and tell you that it is equal parts thrilling, frustrating, fulfilling, and maddening.  

This experience in rural China helped me discover my resilience, taught me a ton about structural power and poverty dynamics, and gave me an opportunity to perfect my Mandarin (albeit, I do have a very strong farmer's twang). 

In addition, I worked with the local government, school leadership, local teachers, and students to create community-centered social entrepreneurship projects. 

I also raised the average English scores of over 200 elementary students by over 40 percentage points.

The best advice I’ve given lately: 

→ What you give airtime to becomes your reality. 

A client of mine was frustrated that her boss was nitpicking something she said. She had mentioned something kinda off the cuff, and her boss latched on to it and totally derailed the 1-1. 

It was an insignificant detail that somehow became a whole thing. 

She hates when that happens. 

But the reality is that at a certain point in your career, you have to use your airtime strategically. 

If you spend your 1-on-1 with your manager talking about an insignificant project you’re working on, they might assume that you’re only working on insignificant projects. 

Instead, if you use your verbal real estate to tell them all the incredible strategic work you’ve been doing… 

They’ll assume you spend your time doing only strategic work. 

Use your airtime strategically. 

This is how you build an unforgettable reputation.

Myth: Your legacy is defined by your children. 

Reality: Everyone has a legacy to build, regardless of if you can / choose to have kids. 

When people think of legacy, they think of family. But it can be SO much more than that. 

Your legacy can be defined by how you: 

- Treat the earth
- Treat strangers

- Build relationships
- Engage in your community

You build your legacy, bit by bit, day by day.

It’s the accumulation of who you are at work, at home, and even at the grocery store.

I used to trip over these 5 things at work,
and I still see them everywhere.

If you’re a high achiever, you probably know the frustration that comes from working faster than everyone else (then having to wait for them to ‘catch up’).

Most of my clients feel like this.
