Last week, I was on the ground at SXSW signing copies of #ResponsibleMarketing at The Female Quotient’s #FQLounge.

This week, I got an email telling me we won a Bronze Medal at the Axiom Business Book Awards. 💃🏾🏆

It's not her first award, but it is the most prestigious one yet.

This book exists because I got tired of the false binary — the idea that brands have to choose between social impact and commercial success.

That was never true.

Since Unilever and P&G were formed for BOTH reasons (literally hundreds of years ago) it. never. has. been.

THANK YOU to everyone whose contributions as interviewees, sources, and researchers make this the most diversely sourced marketing book ever — and to everyone who has purchased it, read it, shared it, debated it, or put it in someone else's hands!

We gave birth to this work together, right here in the LinkedIn newsfeed…

...and the many many derivatives of over-juxtaposition AI relies on to help us perform a deft sharpness of wit.  

We are at a tipping point. 

I’m starting to spot this glaring signal of unedited AI generated copy more and more in the posts of actual writers…journalists even. 

This is particularly scary because it means we are collectively becoming okay with a lower standard of craft than we deserve.

We shouldn’t be so comfortable letting go of the art and delight in our day to day. 

The bit of effort it takes to read through and revise will not kill you…

It might just even make you stronger.

I’ll just be over here basking in the magic of finally getting to meet one of mine at today’s Career Gems for the Journey Summit - where Tara Jaye Frank utterly dazzled in conversation with my dear friend Leah C. Murphy (who curates and hosts this annual event which has earned a permanent spot on my calendar in perpetuity for reasons forthcoming)

Coming off an amazing week at SXSW in my old home city (I’m letting the dust settle on the onslaught of posts about that one before you get any more of mine😉)- it is SUCH a treat to top it off with such a nourishing day in my new one.

Don't laugh it off in the group chat.

Don't tell yourself it's no big deal.

Someone tried to silence YOUR voice...like it was nothing.

So, unsilence it right back, reclaiming your time,  cool, calm, and collected — as many times as it takes. 

It will soon be very clear, just how SOMETHING your voice is....and not just for you. 

Remember, meetings are a team sport. 

A smart defensive play is a win for the whole room…manjacker included.

Trust and believe, he'll learn something that day. 😉

I just got back from SXSW, like everybody else, and I feel compelled to boast about it. ;)

Also, I have one question. Why did we decide to do all of this at once?

SXSW.
The Webby Awards judging.
Shorty Awards judging.
Panels. Meetings. #LumiCups. Everything, everywhere, all at once.

And yes, it was also my birthday.

This past week was a lot. It was energizing. It was exhausting.

But what has always kept me going is the work. Reviewing submissions for the #Webby and #ShortyAwards was genuinely inspiring. The level of creativity right now is sharp, specific, and moving fast.

At the same time, so many conversations at #SXSW centered around creativity and #AI, and what it really means to build more integrated, fandom-driven marketing. The throughline is clear. The devil is in the details. That applies to the big shifts like AI and to the creative itself. Specificity is a winning strategy.

I also had the chance to share space with some incredible people. I spoke with Julia Hartz, founder of Eventbrite, David Salazar, Head of Innovation at Fast Company, and entrepreneur and CMO advisor Dani Calogera about how to truly harness fandom in marketing strategies and grow it into extended audiences.

At Chief, I joined a conversation on #AI in marketing and what comes next, alongside Chief's CMO Sabrina Caluori, Malina Johnson, who helped lead #ChatGPT to the global market, and Lola Bakare, who is pushing important work around responsible marketing and authentic inclusion. That conversation was wonderfully off the rails and fascinating. I felt like both a speaker and an audience member. That is the power of the #ChiefCommunity.

And then there was LumiCup.

We were everywhere. Fast Company Lounge. Create & Cultivate Summit. Chief Suite, Inc. Magazine Founders House, and a few more spots.

Seeing #LumiCups out in the wild, in the middle of all of this, was surreal. People loved them. Our team showed up strong, and it is exciting to see how fast LUMI is growing.

More than anything, this week reinforced something I have been feeling for a while. We are in the era of the multi-hyphenate. I feel that deeply. Sometimes it feels like I have taken on too much, but being surrounded by others doing the same makes it feel right.

Here is to taking big swings, failing fast, and finding wins along the way.

What a time to be in marketing and pushing the boundaries of creativity.

Now I must nap.

Just kidding. I am back at my desk. #LFG.
