I am the Co-founder of Magna NDIS Consultant, an ethical, impact-driven consulting firm helping disability service providers grow sustainably while delivering better outcomes for people with disabilities.

Ramadan has been exceptionally hard this year...

No water
No shisha
No Matcha morning rush...
No sleeping through the night...
No weight lifting session every morning...

All the "artificial" dopamine just suddenly stripped...

And was replaced with:

Deep 1:1s with my creator
4 am sessions with my boys
5 pm naps after I finally crash...11 hours later

2024 was the first time I came across Heidi La Paglia's work on LinkedIn, 

I was instantly gobsmacked by the depth of her work and her stance on human rights, 

Three months ago, we drove to Canberra to join Disabled People’s Representative Organisations in speaking up about the NDIS cuts and the upcoming fundamental changes to the rights of kids with disabilities. 

Then, I was gobsmacked by Sarah Langston's The Australian Neurodivergent Parents Association non-relenting drive for justice and William Ward-Boas kind, wise and welcoming nature.

I observed accessibility and accomodation in ways I haven't seen before...

It felt...

Different....

2026 came, and we started working closely on a major ahcievement (to be announced soon)...

And I somehow became a new Board member in ANPA The Australian Neurodivergent Parents Association

Here's my real system for running MAGNA without losing my mind:
 
1. Trello for everything team or client-facing (because my memory is not a filing system)
   
2. Fieldy AI for brain dumps + coloured pens when I need to brain dump physically
   
3. Two-hour time blocks where ONE thing gets done (I will only stop if someone's dying or catching fire)
    
4. Automation for anything that doesn't need my actual brain
 
And the truth? 
It still feels like a failed system 😂
Kids happen. Life happens. Cats happen.

How “good” are the NDIA and the NDIS Commission?

𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗔 (𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗚𝗣𝗔 𝗔𝗰𝘁)
ANAO verdict: Governance framework “largely effective” — but oversight of regulatory compliance, risk and sustainability only 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝘁-𝗳𝗼𝗿-𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲

1. In its first audited performance statements, only 11 of 19 measures (58%) met the legal quality test under PGPA Rule 16EA. There were material omissions, including around payment compliance/fraud and 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲.
   
2. A significant proportion of audit findings across major entities relate to the 𝗜𝗧 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (around 65% in the 2024–25 interim audit snapshot).  For NDIA specifically, issues included weaknesses in 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 (SAP CRM and PACE).
  
𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗦 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻
ANAO verdict: “Partly effective.”
 
1. No full visibility of the market it regulates — in Q4 2024–25, ~94% of active providers were unregistered.
   
2. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱.  Monitoring campaigns were not guided by a clear regulatory risk framework.
   
3. 𝗡𝗼 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.  The Commission could not reliably assess whether its responses to non-compliance were effective.
 
So, if governance maturity is uneven…
and data accuracy and oversight remain recurring audit themes…
 
👉 What minimum threshold of internal control, data reliability and regulatory quality assurance should exist 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 we embed algorithm-assisted tools into planning, funding and compliance decisions?

Most NDIS providers don't have a resource problem.
 
They have a "which resource solves my actual problem" problem.

How are you planning to fund your next stage of growth?

𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗻𝗲: 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹.

VC solves one problem: cash.

But if your constraint isn’t money?

If it’s expertise, structure, positioning, governance, or market trust?

Then VC doesn’t fix it.
It accelerates the problem.

The founder either gets swallowed — pushed out slowly, then completely.
Or they leave on terms they never imagined agreeing to when they started.

𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝘄𝗼: 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀.

R&D tax incentives, grants, subsidised programs.

On paper, it’s free money.
In practice, it’s controlled money.

Take the R&D tax incentive.
What most people don’t realise is that once you claim it,
the ATO can audit you at any point over the next ten years.

And here’s the part that catches people off guard:
even if the audit is substantiated — even if you did everything right —
the reversal process that follows can’t be undone.

You suddenly owe money you’d already counted as benefit.

Grants come with conditions.
Conditions come with compliance.
Compliance comes with strings that tighten over time.

𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁.

Private capital. Strategic acquisition. Old money.

This is a different conversation entirely.

Think “what am I building that someone with deep pockets needs to exist?”

VC is for founders whose problem is capital.
Private money is for founders whose problem is structure, access, or market position.

And in regulated industries like disability —
where governance is weak, compliance is complex, and trust is hard-won —
the real value isn’t in how fast you grow.

It’s in how well your structure holds under pressure.

The founders who understand this aren’t chasing investors.
They’re building VALUE that capital eventually has to come to.

That’s a very different game.

And the people playing it don’t advertise that they’re playing it.

Today ANPA lodged a submission raising concerns about the proposed use of the 𝗶-𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗦 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.
 
Our submission focuses on three issues that emerged during consultation with community members and people involved in co-design groups.
 
𝟭. 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
 
Information shared with our organisation during consultation suggested that the i-CAN assessment process may rely primarily on verbal communication.
 
If implemented in a way that prevents written communication or Auslan participation, this would raise serious accessibility concerns.  A statutory assessment process must be accessible to all participants, including people who communicate in different ways.
 
𝟮. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
 
We also raised concerns about the increasing use of 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 (𝗡𝗗𝗔𝘀) in consultation and co-design groups involving people with disability.
 
While confidentiality may be appropriate for limited operational matters, NDAs in policy consultation settings can restrict participants from discussing emerging concerns with their communities. This can undermine transparency and weaken meaningful community participation.
 
𝟯. 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆
 
Across multiple consultations, parliamentary processes and public submissions, the disability community has consistently raised concerns about:
 
• assessment-driven planning models  
• automated or standardised decision tools  
• consultation processes that limit transparency
 
These concerns are not new. They have been raised repeatedly by disabled people, families and representative organisations throughout the reform process.
 
Where governments are aware of risks raised by the community, those risks must be carefully addressed in the design of reforms.
 
ANPA remains committed to contributing 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 to disability policy discussions to ensure reforms uphold accessibility, rights protections and meaningful participation of disabled people.
