My first experience, was many years ago – while heading-up the Finance Team in a medium-sized group of companies. I was appointed GM of a habitually loss-making business - and tasked to turn-it- around. I did all the usual things to improve performance – and they helped. But it was still returning losses each month (all-be-it less than before). Only when I delved back into my Management Accounting background and used techniques from there - did things really improve. (I’m both an FCMA with an MSc in Business Improvement - and an experienced Business Manager) That was 30+ years ago, now - and I’ve learned a lot since then. I’ve learned improving profits in a business is no ‘one-simple-trick’ solution. But there is a step-by-step process - which focuses on finding and fixing the business’ ‘Profit Leaks'. And a toolkit and route-map I've put together, to help do that. For the last 15 years – I’ve helped Finance Managers follow that process and use that toolkit. The process has three distinct stages. Each has a clearly defined objective. No stage should take more than 90-days. How many stages you choose to follow is up to you.
