It’s international men’s day. As someone who intentionally became a man after spending 25 years as a woman, I have some takeaways from 18+ years on inside:

- Workplace gender inequality  is GLARING when you get to see it from both sides. My titles and salaries increased quickly when I was living stealth as a man. 

- Masculinity is quite lonely. I’ve found myself struggling to find male friends. I’ve also often felt like an intruder in women’s spaces.

- The range of emotions I’m ‘allowed’ is limited. I feel folks had a lot more empathy toward me as a woman. Suffering is suppose to happen in silence.

- I feel a lot safer moving through public spaces as a man. I’m still vigilante as a trans person but when I ‘pass’ I feel less eyes on me.

- Men are NOT washing their hands in the bathrooms. 🤢 (not all men but a lot!!)

Masculinity requires delicate handling. I’m grateful to be on the journey and able to see life in these new ways.

Trans Awareness Fact: Americans have become more supportive of laws that limit protections for trans people – and less supportive of laws aimed at safeguarding them.

Unfortunately, I believe the anti-trans rhetoric has created these shifts in how Americans view us. It's why I've been writing my Trans Collective series - to take back our narrative.

More Americans now say they favor or strongly favor laws and policies that:

- Ban health care professionals from providing care related to gender transitions for minors (up 10 percentage points)
- Require trans athletes to compete on teams that match their sex at birth (up 8 points)
- Require trans people to use public bathrooms that match their sex at birth (up 8 points)
- Make it illegal for public school districts to teach about gender identity in elementary schools (up 6 points)

Trans Awareness Fact: Parental and familial support lowers mental health issues among trans people.

Family acceptance of LGBT adolescents is associated with positive young adult mental and physical health. 

Rejection from family members is associated with worse depression and suicidality, and rejection from male parents may be particularly damaging.
